ββΉ summary: jude's shoulder surgery goes smoothly, but after the anesthesia, he has trouble remembering who you are.
it was the day of jude's shoulder surgery and you felt sick to your stomach. you were sitting in the hospital lobby, your leg shaking in anticipation. you had tried getting some work done on your laptop, but all you could think of was his face before you said goodbye. you could tell he was nervous and trying to hide it. he wanted to stay strong.
you bite your lip, looking around anxiously when you see the doctor walking towards you, denise, mark and jobe. "good news," the doctor smiles brightly. "everything went according to plan. he's out of surgery now."
you exchange a relieved smile with jobe and denise's face lights up at the doctor's words. "that's great. oh, mark, that's great."
she places her hand on his arm, and mark smiles. "thank you, doctor."
"of course. he's still a bit loopy from the anesthesia but you can come see him, now."
"perfect." you follow denise and mark to the recovery room, jobe following behind you.
you aren't used to the sight you see when you enter the room. jude's eyes are half shut and he looks insanely drowsy, like he'll fall asleep at any moment. there's a blanket covering his waist and ending at his feet.
his eyes widen when he sees his family. "hi, love," denise says, immediately moving to stand at his side. "how are you feeling?"
"you guys are still here?" jude blinks hard like he's trying to knock himself out of his daze. he raises his eyebrows, struggling to get out of the grogginess.
mark laughs. "where else would we have gone?"
jude shakes his head once, like he's trying to get water out of his ears. when he opens his eyes he looks at you deeply. "why's she here?"
you point to yourself, looking behind you. "me?"
"yeah, you," jude repeats, still pointing. "mum, why'd you let some girl come in here? is she a fan?"
jobe stifles a laugh and you turn to glare at him before denise replies. "jude..."
"yes," you interrupt. "i am a fan." you move to take a seat next to him on the hospital bed. jude looks absolutely appalled, jerking away from you in shock, like he has no idea why you're sitting so close to him. you touch his cheek with your thumb. "i'm your biggest fan."
"mum!" jude's eyes are wide as he frantically looks at his mum. "why's she touching me?"
jobe is completely bent over in laughter, his shoulders shaking aggressively.
"why're you doing this to me?" jude exclaims animatedly. "jobe stop laughing! is it a prank? why would you let a pretty girl see me like this?" he's absolutely beside himself, motioning to his body and his arm, and then his face.
he freezes then and looks at you from the corner of his eye, side eyeing you, almost like he's checking to see if you're still there. then, to your surprise, he grabs his blanket and covers his entire face in it.
denise and mark have joined in on the laughter and you can't help it either, you begin to giggle. denise joins you next to jude and gently pulls the blanket down from his face. "jude. this is yourβ"
she's interrupted by jude muttering under his breath, "she's never going to like me now." it takes a minute for you to understand what he said.
denise tries to hide her smile and responds, "she already likes you, jude."
" i like you a lot," you say, your voice breathy when his gorgeous bambi eyes lock with yours. "i may even love you."
"that's a bit far, ya think?" jude looks at you in a disapproving, skeptical way. "you've just now met me."
"right," you agree. "but i don't know...i just have this really good feeling about you."
"um, thanks?" jude looks at his mum, sending a help me! signal with his eyes. "i'm having a good feeling about you, too, but i should tell you i already have a girlfriend. so i'm sorry. but we can be friends."
laughter slips out of you and you stand up. "i think it's time we take him home."
ββΉ summary: your boyfriend clark and you have been dating for a little over seven months when you stumble in on his powers. you reassure him you're there for good.
it was friday night and there wasn't much to do in smallville. your homework was done for the following week, and you had even gotten a head start on that group project that you knew would be a pain. what better way to reward yourself than to see your boyfriend?
you had called the landline at the kent's farm, but no one had picked up, which was strange because clark had told you earlier that day that he would be at home doing some chores. he had invited you over at 7pm, and it was now 6:00. you couldn't think of a single thing to do for an entire hour. and you surely didn't mind keeping him company during these 'chores', or even helping him out.
you smiled at the thought of watching your boyfriend lift heavy things. clark was unintentionally masculine, something that made you feel insanely shy around him.
the drive to the farm was short, maybe fifteen minutes, if not less. you turn on the radio and sing along to complicated by avril lavigne. it's a beautiful september night and you have the windows down, a slight breeze flowing through your hair. everything's a glowy orange, the sun beginning to creep lower on the horizon.
you pull into the farm, parking near the barn. you get out of your car, shutting the door behind you, scanning the farm in search of your man. the farm's quiet in a peaceful way. you see the cows grazing on the grass beneath them, the roosters clucking in the distance.
you walk to the fence where the horses are nibbling on the grass. "hi, sweet girl," you coo to honey, your favorite workhorse. you stay with her for a moment more before wiping your hands on your bootcut jeans. you fiddle with your blouse before squinting into the sun, trying to spot where clark might be.
you suddenly hear a wushhh and turn to see a blur of color wizzing through the field. your breath catches and you're in awe as you watch. the blur of movement finally stops and you turn to see your boyfriend facing the other way, unsuspecting. everything begins to piece together in your mind.
you had always known clark was different. there was something about him, like you could tell he felt like he didn't belong no matter where he went. he spoke about himself like he was something entirely different compared to the people around him. and then there were the excuses, the obvious excuses that didn't add up, yet no one chose to question. all the times he had been late and mentioned using a 'shortcut'. it all made sense.
strangely enough, you don't feel any sense of weirdness about this aspect of your boyfriend.
smallville isn't any ordinary town. things happen here that shouldn't happen. and there's one common denominator; meteor rock.
that must be it.
there isn't any other explanation.
"clark!" you call, cupping your hands over your mouth. "over here!"
clark turns and grins, jogging over to you. "hi," he says, giving you a kiss. you kiss him deeper, snaking your hand into his hair. you have an overwhelming urge to show him that you'd accept any part of him, no matter what. part of you is hurt that he felt the need to keep this from you. another part of you tells you to keep quiet. not to mention it.
clark pulls away, confusion etched on his face. "what's that for?"
"just missed you is all," you say shyly, taking his hand. "are you done with your chores?"
"yeah, actually. i just finished. i was about to go call you. you're here early."
"yeah..." you run a hand through your hair, wondering if you would've missed what you had seen if you had come a bit later. "i finished my work early. i mean, it's friday night anyways, so i'm ahead."
"that's great, baby. i'm proud of you."
"you know, i tried calling the house but no one picked up. where's mr. and mrs. kent?"
"oh. they actually went to metropolis tonight," clark says, and you catch a hint of nervousness in his voice.
"why?"
"they just have to talk to someone there."
"okay..."
you guys walk in silence for a minute more, and when you get inside clark's house, he moves to open the fridge. "mom made some apple pie if you want some?"
"ooh, yes," you sit on the barstool by the kitchen counter, placing your hands under your chin. "i love mrs. kent's pie."
clark smiles at the sound of you talking nicely about his mom. "okay, i'll just heat it up for you," he pops it in the microwave for a minute and then holds one bowl in each hand. "let's go to the loft. my room's a mess right now."
"that's okay, clark. i'm in the mood for some cuddles, i don't mind if your room's a bit messy." you feel a plan forming in your mind. you just want to spit it out, say you saw his insanely fast speed, and get him to confess. but you know if you corner him like this it'll only end in clark shutting down.
"are you sure?" clark's brows furrow slightly. "i don't want you to think i'm a slob."
"i would never," you take your bowl from his hand and get on your tippy toes to give him a kiss on the cheek.
clark blushes but leads you up to his bedroom. he's right. there's clothes all over the floor and books littering his desk. crumpled notebook paper is on the ground, wadded up into balls, as if he was trying to find the right words for something and needed to scrap a couple ideas.
you take a seat on the edge of his bed, taking a bite of the pie. it's delicious, the glaze of the apples perfectly done. "kudos to mrs. kent. this is delish." you say, smiling at clark, who's currently picking up as many t shirts he can fit in his arms.
"clark, it's okay. why don't you just use your super speed and put them all away?"
clark, who's bending down to pick another shirt up, freezes. "what are you talking about?"
"it's okay, clark. you don't have to pretend." clark's face drops, his mouth hanging open slightly. you step forward, taking his hand in yours. you lead him to his bed where you sit down, pulling him to sit next to you.
"i came a bit early to the farm," you say, looking into his eyes. "i wasn't trying to spy on you. i just saw you...doing that...thing." you motion with your hands, trying to find the right words. "the last thing i want is you freaking out and trying to convince me i was seeing things. i get that this is terrifying for you, and you're...not exactly one to open up quickly, but i need you to know that i'm never going to see you differently. you're still clark. you're still the love of my life. nothing will ever change that, not even you having meteor rock abilities."
clark sniffs, turning his head away from you. "hey," you murmur, holding his face in your hands and turning him back towards you. his gorgeous blue eyes have welled with tears, threatening to spill over at any moment. "come here," you whisper, holding him in a hug. you rub his back, and you feel clark squeezing you tighter, as if you'll disappear if he lets go.
two minutes pass before he pulls away. he turns his face to swipe at his eyes. "you said all the perfect things, but..." he looks away, unable to meet your eyes.
"what, honey? you can talk to me." you cup his face with your hand but he leans away. your heart sinks slightly.
"nothing," clark says, standing up abruptly, still not making eye contact. "i think it's best if you go."
"clark." you demand firmly, standing up. "there's something you want to tell me. i know you, and i know you don't want to do this. you're forcing yourself to. let yourself open up. i've already told you i'm here for good." you place your hands that have formed into fists against his chest. you tip your head up, searching for his eyes. "talk to me."
"i'll regret it," clark mutters under his breath. "you won't see me the same. there's meteor rock, and then there's something else entirely."
"clark," you murmur. "i love you. i. love. you. i don't care. you could tell me anything and i'd still stay." you pause, your eyebrows bunching. "just don't tell me you cheated on me. that's the only thing that would change how i see you."
a laugh slips out of clark. he finally looks down to look at you and then licks his lips. "i'd understand. if you hate me after. or if you can't look at me the same. i'd let you go. i'd stay out of your way."
"hey. that isn't necessary," you press your lips to his, kissing him once, softly. his lips taste like home, and you can't imagine not feeling them on yours. you don't care what it is. you would rather leave smallville forever than live so close to him and not be able to touch him, to talk to him.
"the truth is, i'm not even human." his eyes are filled with worry as he continues. "i'm from a different planet called krypton. my parents sent me here in a space ship to save my life because our planet was about to explode. i... i shouldn't be telling you this. i'm sorry. i..."
"clark." you cup his face with your hands, kissing him. you hold him to you, kissing him deeply, slowly. there are so many things you want to say that words can't even express.
when you pull apart, your breathing is erratic. clark's is too. he looks down. "i didn't deserve that. you don't get it, do you?"
"what, clark? that you're different? i already told you. i love you. nothing changes that. i'm not leaving. you'd have to force me to. i've always suspected something was different about you. and if anything, it drew me to you even more."
"no, your name. it's not just that. i've killed people. that meteor crash was because of me. i'm the reason people lost their lives, and people lost their loved ones. i did that."
you take his hands once more. "you had no idea your parents would send you here. that was completely out of your control. you can't blame your existence for all that. you were a baby."
clark presses his wrists to his face like he does when he's stressed. you take his wrists in your hands, pulling them away from his face. you struggle because of how hard he tries to keep them there, but you get them away.
you look at his beautiful face, those clear blue eyes, his mop of black hair that brushes into his eyes sometimes. you can't imagine looking or thinking of him any differently.
you don't know what else to say to make him see that, so instead, you wrap your arms around his neck and press your lips to his. at first clark seems hesitant, like he's betraying himself by letting you touch him, but he melts at your touch as soon as you slide your tongue against his.
he wraps his arms around you, kissing you with such passion and earnest that your knees get wobbly. it isn't the usual way he kisses you. it's a kiss that encompasses his entire feelings towards you.
your hands find his hair, tugging him closer to you. your hands slide up his shirt. the whole thing feels rushed, like the two of you are running out of time in the most delicious way.
clark's hands are at your waist as he ducks his head to kiss you deeper. you don't want him to change. he's perfect the way he is.

ββΉ summary: pt 2 to this fic, in which reader has emotionally abusive parents and her biggest comfort is her boyfriend, jude. it's now her birthday, and she's turned 18. and with that, jude has a special surprise.
you wake up to the sound of pots banging and clattering downstairs, followed by the sounds of your parents shouting at one another. you groan, leaning over to pick up your phone from your side table. there are already strings of messages from your friends, most of them saying something simple like "happy birthday!" or "hope you have a great day!"
you click on your boyfriend's contact, your heart warming at the sight of his text.
jude
happy birthday my love. you are my biggest blessing and the person that grounds me through everything. words can't describe can't much i love you. i can't wait to see you β€οΈ cheers to 18
you
thank you baby can't wait to see you too xx
you roll out of bed and head to the bathroom to get ready. the sounds from downstairs only increase, making your heart beat faster. you will yourself to ignore it and finish drying off your face and brushing your teeth. you dab on a little blush, some mascara and concealer to cover the darkness under your eyes from staying up late last night, crying. you didn't want jude to see that. you didn't want him to know that, it would kill him.
you put on a cute outfit, a babydoll top and jeans and then head downstairs, grabbing your car keys from your dresser.
"good morning!" you say to your dad, who's currently in the midst of an argument with your mum. he turns to see you, giving you a once over.
"who said you're allowed to go out?" he spits, ignoring your greeting. "where the hell is she always off to?" he asks, turning to your mom.
"who knows?" your mom returns to whatever she's making on the stove. "i couldn't care less where she goes. probably off being a slut with that boyfriend of hers."
you feel the familiar pressure in your throat, making it hard for you to speak. "i-" your voice wavers as you try to speak up for yourself. you're prepared to defend yourself, saying something along the lines of 'i'm not a slut!'. but instead, you find yourself shouting, "it's my fucking birthday! you really can't give me a break with this nonsense for one fucking day?" with that, you practically run out the door, half worried they'll come after you with a pitchfork.
you duck into your car, quickly putting it into reverse and start driving.
"hi, love," jude says when he opens the door to his home, welcoming you in. "happy birthday," he leans down, wrapping an arm around your waist and giving you a kiss. you immediately feel the weight of the world drop from your shoulders, the mere scent of him calming your nerves.
your lips linger on his for a moment after the kiss, and you look up at him, your eyes meeting. you hear his breathe catch as he whispers, "you're beautiful." you can sense a slight amount of nervousness in his voice as he says it, and it catches you off guard.
"thank you," you say with a shy chuckle, breaking apart from him.
"happy birthday, your name!" you hear and turn to see denise coming down the stairs, opening her arms for a hug. denise hums as she hugs you, rocking the two of you. "my sweet girl's eighteen."
you blush at the sound of the pet name, reveling in the adoration you receive from your boyfriend's mum.
"i made some breakfast, let's have some."
breakfast is done and you've helped denise put the dishes away. she's left to get some groceries and hang out with her friends, so you and jude have the house to yourself.
"let's go upstairs, my love. i haven't given you your present yet."
"is that a code word for sex?" you giggle, raising your eyebrows.
although the color doesn't exactly rise to his cheeks, you can sense jude blushing intensely at your joke. something's gone over him, and you can't figure out what. you had hardly put on any makeup, too, so you feel self conscious for a moment. was this outfit too much? you had curled your hair, would it be better if you hadn't?
you follow jude upstairs and he shuts his bedroom door softly behind you. once the door's closed, he turns to you and takes your hands in his. you feel butterflies in your stomach.
"you aren't proposing, right, jude?" you say cautiously.
"what? no!" jude exclaims. he catches himself at the way your face falls. "i mean, of course one day, but..." he exhales. "no."
"then what is it, jude?"
jude licks his lips, his eyes meeting yours. "give me a minute. i had a whole thing i wanted to say."
you smile. jude never gets shy or nervous, and it's a cute look on him. "take your time."
"okay. remember a few months ago when i asked you to move in with me?"
"yeah...?"
jude strokes your hands with his thumbs. "i was serious, your name. i'm serious about us, and about you. everything changed since i met you. i can't picture myself with anyone but you. even the thought of that makes me sick to my stomach," jude shakes his head.
"anytime something happens, i know who i can go to. you know how to make me smile, make me laugh, comfort me when i'm sad. and i want to be that for you, too, for as long as i can. and i hate seeing you sad. i hate facetiming you and hearing shouting in the background, and seeing tear stains on your face when you show up at my door. and that doesn't mean you can't cry around me. i just mean that i hate knowing that it's all stemming from you being at home. i would never make you feel that way. i found a place. it's small, but it's perfect." jude reaches into his pocket, lifting out a pair of gold keys. "now that you're eighteen, i want you to move in with me."
you feel wetness on your face and realize you'd been subconsciously crying at his words.
"yes?" jude asks, his hands finding your face. he brushes the tears with your thumbs.
"yes," you breathe, and he leans down to kiss you. you wrap your arms around his torso and he holds your elbows, deepening the kiss. it isn't long until he picks you up, taking both of you to the bed.
you wrap your legs around his hips, straddling him, kissing this boy that brings you so much happiness. you feel like you could drown in him, but at the same time want to be closer to him. you can feel a familiar bulge under you and you rock your hips against him, taking his shirt off quickly. you throw it across the room, your hands explore his skin. his abs ripple as he moves, his hands on your waist, your thighs, your hips.
you break apart, inhaling deeply to fill your lungs. you find yourself tugging at his joggers, wanting them off. jude's hands grab yours, stopping you. "are you sure?" he looks up at you with those beautiful eyes and you nod.
"i couldn't imagine there being another choice than this right now," you say, leaning forward to kiss him once more.
"okay," jude moves you, adjusting so that he's now hovering over you. "tell me if i'm hurting you, love."
"of course."
jude lifts your top, his breathe catching at the sight of you. you had worn a purple lace bra, in hopes that this would happen. "you look beautiful," he murmurs, pressing his lips to your skin. "i couldn't keep my eyes off you today. i was trying to behave in front of my mum."
"thank you," you whisper, and jude's hands go to the back of your bra. he struggles to unclasp it, but when he does, he lets it fall free, his eyes wandering over your body. he presses a kiss to your breast, his thumb swiping over your nipple. you moan and he covers your bud with his mouth, his tongue dancing delicately over your sensitive skin.
your jeans are gone next, along with your lace panties. jude trails kisses down your stomach until he reaches where you want him the most. he presses a hand to your knee, and you let your legs fall open for him. it's intimate, yet no part of you feels nervous.
you watch as jude's gaze alone feels like enough to devour you. "you're already wet," jude whispers, pressing a kiss to your inner thigh, his thumbs tracing patterns there.
you moan at the touch. "jude," you say. your lust is almost painful.
jude pushes a finger into you, and the familiar pressure is enough to make you groan. "more," you murmur, and jude obliges, crooking his finger inside your pussy. he fucks into you, the pressure building, and just when you're about to beg him for another finger, he pulls them out. his fingers drip with you, and you're about to protest when you watch him pull his boxers down.
he's thick and hard and already leaking. you don't think you could want him more. you watch him slide a condom over his length. you could almost cry at the sight. you want him bare. you want him inside you forever. you want him to be as close to you as possible. you want to crawl inside of him and live there.
"tell me if it hurts," jude says again and you nod. he pushes into you slowly, letting you adjust to his size. a moment passes and he starts to move, shifting his hips. you feel his hand finding yours, your fingers intertwining with each other. he strokes your hand with his thumb.
jude's moans mingle with yours when he's fully inside you. your eyes fall shut and he rocks his hips, each thrust getting harder, deeper. "you're so tight," jude groans.
jude angles his hips so he can slam back into you with more pressure, making you groan. "right there, jude."
"my sweet girl," jude murmurs into your neck. "fuck."
"you feel so good," you moan, feeling ecstacy so close. "i'm almost there. i-."
"me too, baby. hold on." jude slams his dick into you two more times, and your eyes roll back as you struggle to hold on. you feel yourself shudder and you swear you see heaven for a second.
jude whines into your neck, his thick cum filling you moments later. "that was amazing," jude groans, his dick still twitching inside you. his legs shook slightly as he pulls out, his cum dripping down your thigh, onto the bedsheets.
you lean up on your arm, finding jude's eyes. "i can't wait," you say breathlessly, "to do that all the time once we move in together."

ββΉ summary: inspired by the "hugging my bf and not letting go" tiktok trend
"i'm home!" you hear as footsteps approach.
"okay, guys, here it goes," you grin, propping your phone up against the counter, angling a tissue box next to it so it isn't so obvious.
the bathroom door swings open softly, and a familiar, beautiful, face peers inside. your boyfriend's eyes light up when he sees your face.
"hi, love," jobe gives you a tired smile, leaning down to kiss you.
you put your arms up, motioning for him to pick you up, and he does. you wrap your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck. "mmm," jobe hums, leaning in to your neck.
his arms tighten around you and you cuddle your face into his neck. "i missed you, baby."
"mmm. i missed you too."
jobe moves side to side, wanting to hug you deeper. "how was your day?" you ask, still deep in the hug.
"good. i was thinking about you all day."
jobe smiles, replying in a softer, child-like tone. "i bet i was thinking about you more."
"i don't think that's possible," you say, smiling against his neck, satisfied with the fact that he hasn't let go yet. you inhale his scentβmanly, fresh and cologne. it's exactly the same every time you smell him, yet you can't get enough every time.
"i think it is," jobe counters.
"well, i was thinking about you while i was making breakfast after you left. then again when i got ready, and again while i was at work. and then again when i came home."
"so was i. every minute without you is like a countdown until i get to be in your arms again."
"that's really sweet, babe."
"i'm only sweet when it comes to you."
you laugh. "that's not true at all."
you can feel jobe smiling when he kisses your hair. "i wanna hold you like this forever."
"good, because i'm down for that."
"okay. i'm starving, though. i smelled some of that banana bread you made."
"i guess you'll just have to get a slice like this, with me." you pull back from his neck, giving him a kiss.
jobe makes a soft whine. "i missed you so much today, you don't even know. i just wanted to hear your voice."
"i love you so much," you say, forgetting about your tiktok. "let's go get some banana bread."
i was in the mood to write something short n sweet so enjoy

ββΉ summary: jobe notices how your work has recently consumed you, and he refuses to let your bad mood ruin the day you have together.
ββΉ note: i literally love jobe's smile sm so i wanted my first fic of him to have something to do with the idea of always laughing/smiling when you're with him.
you're having a horrible day. it's a saturday, which means jobe finally has a day off, but part of you wishes he didn't because you just want to be alone.
your boss is blowing up your phone with reminders and deadlines, and it feels like no matter what you do, you're always behind.
jobe can sense it too, because every time he tries to interact with you, he's met with stone cold responses. like just now, when he brings you another mug of coffee. "here, love," he sets it on the table next to you and you grumble a thanks. he stands behind you as you sit hunched over your computer, and he massages your neck and shoulders.
"that feels good," you hum, grateful for the peaceful silence and massage.
the 'peaceful silence' is broken a moment later when jobe asks, child-like, "what're you working on?"
"just some work, babe. can you let me be?"
"sorry, sorry." jobe leaves and a minute later he's pulling the chair next to you out so he can take a seat. he scrolls on his phone and you can literally feel his eyes on you, watching you.
"jobe." you say sternly. "leave. i'm almost done this project and i need to send it. i'll be finished in a half hour."
jobe's face lights up and he gives you a quick kiss on the cheek. "i'll hold you to that. half an hour."
"yeah, yeah," you wave your hand, motioning for him to leave. you love him, but sometimes you need space to get your shit together. it was easy to compare yourself to him, who was so self-established in his field, already dominating everything he touched. you, on the other hand, are still on the come up, working your way up a corporation that sometimes feels impossible.
an hour has passed and you're now curled up on the couch watching a film with jobe. you can't focus on the telly, you keep reaching over to check your messages. just then, a message comes through.
manager
a bit disappointed with your report. it's lacking information on our final expenses and budget. pls re-send it with more info.
you groan and smack your phone down into the cushions.
"what's wrong, love?" jobe pauses the film and turns to look at you. "you've been in a bad mood all day."
"it's not my fault!" you shout, getting up. everyone wants you to be jolly all the time. it doesn't matter if it's a saturday, if it's jobe's day off. your work doesn't pause just because it's the weekend.
jobe grabs your hand, yanking you back onto the couch. "babe, stop."
"jobe. i need to work. let me go."
"hey," jobe frowns, taking your phone, which is still unlocked, the message from your boss glowing on the screen. "it's the weekend. and i don't reckon your job's any different just because you work from home some days. the weekend is for rest, and the only reason your boss keeps pressuring you to do more is because you agree."
you stare at him. "this is my job, jobe. i can't just tell her no." you try to reach for your phone but he holds it above your head, moving so he can type something out of your reach.
you watch in shock as he clicks the send button. "jobe! what did you just send!?"
"i told her no." jobe grins mischievously but let's you take the phone from his hands.
you
got it. it'll be submitted by monday night.
"jobe!" you can't help but say again. "oh my god. what did you do."
"relax, love. just wait and see what she says."
you hold your breath when your phone buzzes. manager has liked your message.
"see?" jobe smiles and picks you up, setting you on his lap so you're straddling him. "i hate seeing you so stressed out. you love your job, but lately i've been seeing that love you have for what you do fading. and then you get so lost in your work that i get put to the side on the days where i just want to spend time with you."
jobe tucks your hair behind your ears and you look down. "i'm sorry, baby. i don't mean to."
"hey, i know." jobe tips your face up, making you look at him. "s'okay. we all get lost in it sometimes. happens to me with football, too. you know that. i just want us to be able to find our way to each other through everything."
"i know. and thank you for catching my work addiction before it's too late." you smile, putting your arms around his neck. you expect him to lean down to kiss you, but instead, you feel his long fingers under your armpits...tickling you.
jobe knows you're unbelievably ticklish, and you begin laughing manically. you can't help it.
"jobe!" you squeal, unable to get away. "stop that!" the only thing you can do is laugh and attempt to push him off of you, which is a nearly impossible task, since he's a good 7 inches taller than you.
jobe's laughs have turned into an outright cackle, and he can't get enough, waggling his fingers under your armpits and your neck. you sink further into the couch, the side of your face getting smushed into a pillow as you struggle to get out of his grasp.
"jobe i can't breathe!" you laugh and he pulls back, letting you catch your bearings.
"sorry, love." the grin on his face definitely does not look like he's sorry.
you breathe heavily, trying to slow it back to normal, and he keeps smiling, his teeth being displayed entirely. you love the way he looks when he laughs, when he smiles. his lips become sharp at the ends, and every smile reaches his eyes, which squeeze shut, as if everything is too funny, and he can't bare to keep his eyes open. his nose scrunches slightly and his shoulders hunch a bit, too.
"i can't believe i was neglecting that smile for work." you say with disguist at yourself. jobe settles into the space between your knees, laying on you. he holds your face in his hands, your hair falling onto his hands.
"you don't have to neglect me now," jobe replies, dropping his face to kiss you. his lips are soft and full and he wraps an arm around you to hold you steady. you move slightly so you're now facing each other. jobe smiles against your lips and you kiss him even deeper, your tongues caressing each other.
he kisses your neck and you laugh, giddy, pulling his shirt over his head. you kiss him again, inhaling his scent as you run your fingers over his smooth chest and stomach. your noses bump and jobe grins against your lips.
you kiss his neck and get a bit carried away, because when you pull back, there are bruises that are beginning to blossom. you like the idea that you've marked him in some kind of way.
"i love you so so so much," you can't help but say when the two of you are fully unclothed. you grip jobe's muscular thigh, running your hand up and down his skin.
jobe buries his face into your neck as he pushes into you. "i better not catch you glued to your computer next saturday," you laugh, but it quickly morphs into a moan as you hold on to his neck, breathing heavily.
jobe thrusts into you once more and he groans, moving his mouth to kiss your neck. your fingers interwine with his. yeah, maybe i'll just chuck that computer in the bin, you think to yourself in bliss.

Your dog, Molly, dragged you down the path along the river, sniffing the grass below her nonstop. She was barely a year old and still acted like every walk was the best thing that had ever happened to her.
You let her pull you along while your mind wandered, which lately meant it wandered straight to Clark Kent. You thought about the way he tripped over nothing in the Talon last week, stumbling into a table and then laughing at himself before you even got the chance to.
"Smooth, Kent," you said making him go a bit red
"In my defense, I had some coffee," he'd said, and you laughed hard enough that you nearly choked on your coffee.
You thought about the way Clark looked at you sometimes in class. Those quick glances he probably thought you wouldn't notice. the looks that Pete and Chloe gave you.
"You two are so obvious it's actually painful," Chloe told you last week, not even looking up from her laptop.
"Obvious how?" you replied, your heart was beating outside of your chest, maybe the feeling was mutual, was this confirmation? Chloe just raised an eyebrow and smiled at you.
The chain of thought about Clark broke when Molly yanked you towards a tree near the riverbank, and that was when you saw them.
A cluster of orchids, pale blue with green patches on the petals, growing against the bark. You crouched down to look closer.
You never saw a flower like that before. The colour reminded you a little too much of the colour of Clark's eyes and you rolled your own eyes at yourself for even thinking that.
Near the roots, something glinted. A few jagged green shards, half-buried in the dirt. Maybe someone had dropped a broken bottle.
You nudged Molly away from them, not wanting her to cut a paw. You didn't think much else of it. You just thought the orchids were pretty and kept walking once she finished sniffing about.
A couple days later in fourth period, you were sat in biology trying not to fall asleep, There was just five minutes left of the lesson. The teacher stood at the front of the room with a clipboard, tapping her pen against it loudly.
It startled you, making you shoot up before you shut your eyes properly. Clark looked over and stifled a laugh as you rolled your eyes at him, slightly embarrassed that him, of all people, witnessed you do that.
βHope I wasnβt interrupting your nap time Reader.β The teacher said giving you a pointed look. βAnyways β I want this project completed by the end of this month, so you all have 30 days to do this.β she continued.
The class groaned in unison. "This project is focused on the topic we finished last week: plant anatomy and adaptations. I'm assigning partners, so no, you can't pick your friends β You need to decide on a plant to research on. I want you to do a ten minute presentation on the anatomy of said plant and how that anatomy increases its chances of survival in its habitat. Bonus points if it is a plant that you can physically bring in.β
She started listing pairs and as much as you wanted to focus on that, youβre eyes were on Clark. Gosh he looked so pretty like this.
The teacher suddenly said your name snapping you out your trance: βReader and Clark, I suppose you two will do brilliantly considering that one of you lives on a farm.β
As your heard both your names together, you immediately looked over at Clark who was looking at you, both smiling too fast and glancing away just as fast. Which Pete definitely clocked, leaning over to whisper something that made Clark elbow him.
"Guess we're stuck with each other," you said once the bell rang, walking beside him in the hallway.
"Guess so," Clark said, smiling down at his shoes. "Could be worse partners, I mean. You could've gotten stuck with Trevor, he brought a dead frog to class once for no reason."
"Terrifying. I'll take my chances with you," you said making him chuckle.
"Wanna come by the farm later? We can figure out what we're doing for the project," he said trying to stop a smile growing on his face.
"Yeah, sounds good," you said, trying to sound casual about it and failing. "What time?"
"Whenever,β he said. "You could just stay for dinner too, if you want."
"Iβll hold you to that Kent," you replied, butterflies fluttering in you.
That evening you showed up at the Kent farm right as the sun was starting to dip over the fields. Clark was waiting on the porch steps with a notebook already in his hand like he had been sitting there for a while.
βHey!β He waved before moving his arm down to remain calm and collected in front of you.
βHey Clark.β You smiled back shimmying your bag of your shoulder.
"Okay, so I was thinking, maybe we could do corn, since we've got a whole field of it right here," he said as you sat down beside him. "Free samples, basically."
"Bit basic donβt you think?," you said. "Everyone's gonna do corn or beans or something normal. We need something nobody else has."
"Okay then, what've you got," he said, nudging your shoulder with his.
"Actually I saw these orchids growing down by the river," you said. "Pale blue, kind of green through the middle. I've genuinely never seen anything like them."
Clark's whole face lit up a little, βThat's so cool, nobody else is gonna have anything like that. Where exactly?"
"By that big tree near the bend, past the old bridge," you said. "I walk my dog past there most nights."
"We should go check it out this week, get some actual samples for the presentation," he said, already scribbling in the notebook.
Before you could answer, Martha stuck her head out the door. "Dinner's ready if you two are done plotting out here."
"We're doing plants Mom, not plotting," Clark called back. Martha just gave him a look like she wasn't so sure there was a difference.
Dinner was surprisingly fun with the Kent family. Martha giving everyone more food without asking, Jonathan teasing Clark about some story from the Talon that made his ears go pink.
"He didn't tell you about the sidewalk incident did he?" Jonathan said.
Clark groaned into his spoon. "Dad, please."
"Oh, I heard about it," you said grinning, Clark shot you a betrayed look across the table that only made Jonathan and Martha laugh harder.
After dinner you walked back to your house but stopped at the tree with the illustrious flowers.
You cut a careful handful of the orchids and laid them in your bag, the green shards caught your eye again. Who in their right mind would just smash a glass bottle next to a river?
You continued to pick the flowers, humming to yourself the whole time, still smiling about the time you spent with Clark earlier.
At home you arranged them in a glass vase on your desk, angling them so they'd catch the morning light.
You leaned down to smell them, and the scent was strange. It was almost sweet but in a way which seemed really odd, these orchids were definitely going to get you an A on the project.
You breathed the scent in again anyway. Then a third time, chasing the smell like it might make more sense.
You didn't think anything of the odd, heavy feeling settling behind your eyes. You just figured you were tired, and went to bed not long after.Β
You woke up with a headache pressing behind your eyes. It was dull and strange like pressure that didn't belong there. You blinked at the ceiling for a second before sitting up, It was probably just because you slept badly.
By the time you got to school the headache faded. You forgot about it somewhere between first period and your locker.
At lunch you found Clark already sitting under the big tree near the bleachers with that notebook open on his knee, pretending to work on the project when really he was just waiting for you.
"You started without me?" you said, dropping down next to him.
"I got one whole sentence in," he said, tilting the notebook so you could see. It said Orchids are a flowering plant.
You laughed, and he grinned like he was hoping you would. "Very scientific Clark. I'm impressed."
"I contain multitudes," he said, you shoved his shoulder and he let himself get pushed sideways more than he probably needed to.
You spent the next twenty minutes actually working, mostly because he was stealing fries off your tray without asking and you pretended to be annoyed about it.
At some point he said something dumb enough that you laughed properly with your head tipped back. You felt giddy around him, the whole interaction making your stomach flutter and your heart skip a beat.
Just then when, you looked down, there were a few small white flowers blooming in the grass beside your knee that hadn't been there a minute ago, your head heart again, it was strange.
Clark didn't notice though, too busy watching your face instead of the ground. He saw you wince and clutch your head slightly, "Hey are you alright?"
You pulled your hand away from your head to dismiss the pain, "Yea I'm fine Clark β so you're coming over later, right?" you asked trying to change the topic. "I've got the orchids in a vase so you can actually see them instead of just hearing me talk about them."
"Yeah, I'll head over after I do my chores," he said. "Should probably get actual data before we just wing the whole presentation."
"Wow, structure. Never would've guessed that from you," you rolling your eyes, he flicked a fry at you in retaliation, which you caught out of the air and ate just to make a point.
He showed up at your place a little after five, his hair was a little damp like he had a shower after finishing up at the farm. You led him up to your room where the orchids sat in the vase on the desk, pale blue against the afternoon light.
"Oh, wow," he said, leaning in close to look at them properly. "Yeah, okay, I get why you wanted to do the project on these. I've genuinely never seen anything like it."
"Right? I keep thinking someone's gonna tell me they're just some weird hybrid from a garden center, but I looked, they're not in any catalog, you should smell them they smell really, strangely pleasant I think," you said, sitting on the edge of your bed.
Clark nodded and started to sniff them but he went quiet for a second, and you watched his eyebrows pull together.
"Is it warm in here?" he said, rubbing at his temple.
"Not really," you said. "Clark, are you okay?"
"Yeah, just a headache," he said wincing but then straightening up and blinking a little too hard. "Probably just tired."
"You sure? You look kind of pale," you said, standing up and coming closer, worry creeping into your voice before you could stop it.
"I'm fine, really," he said, but he didn't sound totally convinced of it himself, his hand braced lightly on your desk like he needed the steadiness.
You reached out without thinking and touched his arm, and the worry in your chest twisted tighter watching him wince slightly.
Behind you, the leaves on the little potted plant on your windowsill curled inward at the edges, like they could feel your worry.
"Maybe you should head home, get some sleep," you said. "We've got plenty of time for the project and you've got that game tomorrow."
"Yeah, maybe," Clark said, but he did look relieved at the suggestion, his skull was pounding harder than he wanted to admit. "Sorry, I don't know what that was."
"Don't apologize, just go rest," you said, walking him down to the door.
The next morning Molly woke you up by shoving her cold nose directly into your cheek, at a time which was definitely too early because it was still somewhat dark outside.
"Molly stop," you mumbled into the pillow. Molly didn't stop thought, she kept wagging her tail on you getting rid of any hope of sleep you had. "MOLLY STOP!" Molly went a little still.
You immediately winced at yourself for yelling at her, it wasn't her fault at all.
You hadn't slept well at all, your head was preoccupied of Clark's headache and how he looked in pain just the night before.
You dragged yourself out of bed feeling like you'd barely slept at all, the irritation of being woken up increasing.
You caught sight of the windowsill plant on your way to the bathroom and stopped. It looked worse than it had last night. More of the leaves turned grey-brown and curled in on themselves, like it was actively dying instead of just struggling.
"Seriously?" you said out loud, crouching to poke at the soil, which was damp, which made no sense at all. You watered it before sleeping so how has it gotten even more shriveled? It should've been fine.
A wave of dizziness hit you out of nowhere as the frustration built up your hand shot out to grip the windowsill.
After a minute you felt fine again, but you felt hollowed out like something had just let itself out.
Molly started barking aggressively, spinning in a circle by your bedroom door like something had spooked her.
"What? What is it?" you said turning to look, but there was nothing there. Just the door, the same as it always looked.
Molly kept barking and growling anyway, it took her a full minute to settle and she started sniffing at the air like she was trying to find traces of something.
"You're being so weird," you told her shakily.
As you brushed your teeth you thought about it all: The flowers in the grass at lunch. The plant last night, wilting within minutes of you Clark's headache when you were worried. The plant now, somehow worse overnight even though you watered it. The dizzy, hollow feeling that came and went. Molly suddenly being aggressive at nothing.
Something was wrong with you. You didn't know what but it couldn't be that bad if you stayed calm. Anyways you were looking forward to watching the football game with Clark playing and that was all that mattered.
Later that day the bleachers were packed for the game against the visiting team. You sat near the front with Chloe, who was narrating the game with more sarcasm than actual sports knowledge.
"Is that good? Clark doing that thing?" Chloe said squinting at the field.
"I have no idea but everyone's cheering so, I'm assuming yes," you you replied chuckling a bit, but in the back of your mind you were still processing these weird incidences.
Clark glanced up toward the bleachers between plays, and whenever he found you in the crowd he waved, grinning before pulling his helmet back on. Something in your chest loosened a little despite everything else.
At halftime, the visiting team's cheer squad crossed over near the home bleachers, and one girl in particular went toward the fence where Clark had gone to grab water. She was pretty in an effortless way.
She leaned against the fence right next to him like she'd known him for years instead of five seconds.
You saw her lean too close to Clark and talk inot his ear with a giggle on her face.
If that wasn't bad enough Clark laughed, rubbing the back of his neck like he would with you. She laughed like he said something charming and left her hand there a moment too long.
Your stomach twisted.
Jealousy.
You were embarrassed to be feeling such an ugly emotion. You hated how much it bothered you, hated that you had zero claim to feel anything about it at all.
At your feet, the grass went brown in the space of a few seconds, curling like it had been scorched. The dizziness came back again. Then the same hollow feeling from that morning, worse this time.
The girl closest to you on the bleachers went rigid mid-laugh and suddenly shouted at her friend beside her.
Her voice was sharp and vicious over something that hadn't happened.
Then Chloe's mood shifted too.
It rippled across the bleachers fast, a guy two rows down was shoving the person next to him hard enough to nearly send him over the bench, someone else was shouting.
You saw a few of the players glance up toward the bleachers, distracted, Then a player from the visiting team punched another.
One of them took a hit he clearly hadn't seen coming because he was looking the wrong way. The coach's whistle shrieked but the crowd noise had already tipped past listening. Then the coach started shouting aggressively.
"Okay, that's actually insane," Chloe said, standing, scanning the stands with wide eyes as the shoving spread further, row by row, like something contagious.
You felt it too now, a hot simmering irritation that wasn't entirely your own anymore, or maybe it was, maybe it had just gotten louder, and you turned to say something to Chloe and found yourself glaring at her for no reason at all, some ugly flare of anger rising in your throat before you shoved it back down hard.
Clark's hand went to his temple down on the field, wincing hard enough that he stumbled, and the sight of it hit you like ice water. You looked around at the chaos spreading through the bleachers. Then at the anger inside that was so irrational and unnecessary.
The realisation dawned on you about these events.
"I have to go," you said pushing Chloe with force, running down the bleachers.
"Wait, heyβ" Chloe called after you, but you were already moving and pushing through the crowd of people.
You didn't look back to see that the grass under where you were sat started to slowly green the further you got from it.
Chloe did.
She stood there after you were gone, staring down at the ground with her mouth slightly open. She filed it in her memory like how she did with every strange thing in the town except this time it had your face attached to it.
By the time two teachers started separating students, the fighting seemed to drain out of the crowd almost as fast as it had begun.
People were blinking at each other because they weren't sure what they were even fighting about.
On the field, the coaches called a timeout, the game grinded to a halt while the teachers tried to make sense of a crowd that had gone from cheering to brawling in under two minutes.
Meanwhile you finally found the bathroom and shoved through the door, bracing both hands on the sink and staring at your reflection.
The door swung open a minute later, Chloe burst in scanning you head to toe. "Okay," she said slowly, "so I don't know exactly what I just saw, but I'm pretty sure it was you."

ββΉ summary: clark scores the winning touchdown and as soon as the time runs out, the first place he goes is to you.
"here he goes! clark kent! he's almost there!" the commentator's voice rings through the sounds of the crowd. it's the first time the smallville crows have been able to reach the playoffs, and clark has had a great season.
you watch as your boyfriend, football tucked under his arm, sprints down the field, his shoulders hunched. while it may look like a regular, maybe athletic teenager being in their zone, you could tell that he was holding back, making sure he wasn't going too fast.
you watch on, unable to say a word to chloe, who keeps shoving you playfully. "he's so close!" she grins, and you smile back, even though the only thing you want to do is focus on the game.
you watch as he crosses the 10 yard line, players trying to chase after him. "TOUCHDOWN!" the entire stadium roars, and you grin, jumping up and down excitetdly. pete begins to whistle and holler, "THAT'S MY BOY!" he shouts, and you laugh, rolling your eyes at chloe.
you watch as the lights on the board tick from 3 seconds to 0, and with that, the game is over.
"go, your name," chloe points to the barrier between the field and bleachers where the rest of the players friends and families have lined up to congratulate them and celebrate with them.
"no," you make a pfft motion with your hand. "i don't want to intrude, i'll let him celebrate with his boys."
chloe's eyes widen in mock bewilderment. "look!" she points to the field where clark is standing, his teammates jumping on his back and shoulders, shoving him around playfully. he doesn't even look at them. instead, his eyes search the stands, squinting. "he's looking for his girl! go!"
"well come with me then!" you grab chloe by the elbow and the two of you run to the field where clark's waiting. the moment you get there, he grabs you by the waist and lifts you up off your feet. you laugh and wrap your arms around his neck in a hug.
"i'm so proud of you," you whisper.
he holds you in the air in a hug for a couple more seconds before placing you on the ground. you cup his face and kiss him slowly and when you pull away you notice an intense blush creeping over his ears and cheeks.
chloe's looking around awkwardly, and you wince, feeling bad. you didn't mean to make things awkward, and it wasn't too long ago that she had confessed her feelings for clark, only to find out they were unreciprocated because of his feelings for you. that hadn't gotten in between your friendship. at least not yet, and you wanted to keep it that way.
the team had decided to hit the talon to celebrate, and clark insisted that you came, along with chloe and pete. the football team wasn't exactly your crew, but they had girlfriends in pretty much any clique, and some of them you knew and were friends with. because of that, you agreed to go.
you sit next to clark, a diet coke in your hand. you take a sip, listening to the story pete's currently telling the team. "yeah, and then my car skids and i'm like, there's no way..." you feel someone looking at you and steal a glance from the corner of your eye.
clark's watching you with these dreamy blue eyes and your breath catches. it's not that you forget your boyfriend's a good looking guyβit's something you're reminded of every time you're in the bathroom and hear muffled giggles as girls discuss how cute he looksβbut it's different when his entire gaze is on you, and only you.
he grins when your eyes meet and pats his lap. you feel hesitant, not wanting to embarrass yourself in front of his teammates. clark notices the hesitation because he pats his leg one more time. you take a seat on clark's lap, your legs hanging off his. you're certainly not short from any angle, but clark is huge, and you love the way he makes you feel protected and small, something you don't usually feel.
pete's still continuing his story. sometimes you think he could speak for hours without interruption. whatever he's saying must be interesting because no one in the group is paying any mind to the two of you. clark slings his arm around you, his hand resting on your stomach, and you take his hand, interlocking your fingers. with his thumb, he strokes your hand, and you can't help but look down in an attempt to hide your smile
the two of you walk home together hand in hand, just talking. it's a bit humid out but there's a soft breeze through the air that feels amazing as it passes through your hair. you keep noticing clark looking at you with such adoration everytime you speak, and it keeps getting you distracted and unable to finish your sentences.
"and then i-," you stop talking, dropping your hands, which were making gestures that were necessary to the story. "clark, stop it."
"stop what?" clark smiles, and you notice his little fangs that appear every time he grins. you love them, even though it's something he was always insecure about. everytime you mentioned them, he'd immediately stop smiling.
"you know what," you say. "you keep looking at me like..."
"i'm in love with you?" clark finishes. you nod shyly.
"that's because i am," he stops walking, holding both your hands by his sides. you hadn't noticed but you were now standing outside the barn. the walk was shorter than you thought.
"oh," you breathe, unable to rip your eyes away from his.
"yeah." clark grins once more before leaning down to kiss you. you sling your arms over his neck to return the kiss and he wraps his arms around your waist. he tastes like the pepsi he had been drinking at the talon. his tongue is silky sweet as it drags over yours, and you clutch his shirt, pulling him closer. you run your fingers through his dark hair, and he moans into your mouth when your nails scrape his scalp.
your tongue presses into his sharp canine and he pulls away. "what's that for?" he asks, shocked.
you grin. "i just love your teeth," you say.
"oh yeah?" clark gathers your hair in his hand and pushes it to the other side of your neck, dipping his face. you feel the soft pinch of skin as his teeth sink into your skin lightly. he follows the bite with kisses, and his hands find the sides of your chest, rubbing you.
you pull him back, needing to taste him again. you grab his face in your hands and kiss him once more.
the kiss goes on for what feels like hours. time seems to slow as you get lost in one another. clark's hands find your waist and your hips, and you hug his back and his neck and his hair.
finally, you pull away. "we should head inside."
"yeah," clark agrees, and there's that look again.
lmk if you guys want a pt 2 or idk i feel like this didn't rly have a satisfying ending also pleaseee give me some requests below anything is fair gameπ

ββΉ summary: your relationship with your parents has never been the best, and after a horrible fight, the only place you want to be is your boyfriend's arms.
"all you care about is yourself!" your mom shouts, and her voice makes your skin scrawl. the only thing you had done was study in a coffee shop for your final exams. you didn't know it would've caused such issues, but then again, your mom found a problem in almost everything you did.
"i'm sorry," you say, trying to keep your voice even. "i had texted you i would be home late, and it's only eight o'clock. i had a lot of studying to do." it's hard for you to keep your cool when she acts like this. every part of you is telling you to shout back, say what's really on your mind. that never gets you anywhere, so instead you keep quiet.
"you can keep your bullshit apologies to yourself." your mom huffs, turning around. "i don't know where you came from. you sure as hell didn't come from me."
her words don't have any effect on you. she's always saying this kind of thing and then later acting as if she said nothing at all. it doesn't matter, though, it still hurt.
"where do you think i came from, then?" you find yourself yelling. "because i definitely didn't just fall from the sky!"
you can't think straight, the only thing you want to do is leave your house. you find yourself pulling on your uggs and slipping out the house, letting the door slam behind you.
the moment the cool air hits your face you begin crying. you don't mean to, but the sobs escape from your body without notice. you're tempted to take the car, but you know that'll only result in more fighting, more texts blowing up your phone, and more pain.
so, you put one foot in front of the other, zipping your hoodie up to your chin.
as you walk, the only thing you can think of is how much your chest hurts, and soon your head, from crying.
it's not long before you feel droplets of water over top your head. soon the rain quickens to a slight pitter patter, darkening the side walk. you pull the hood of your jacket over your head, shielding your face from the rain.
your feet know where to take you before your brain can come up with that decision. you follow the familiar route, and the walk calms your nerves slightly. it's not too far from here.
the rain has built up to a slight down pour by the time you reach your destination. you climb up the small set of stairs by the porch and raise your hand to ring the doorbell.
you didn't text or even say you were coming, but you don't care. there's no where else for you to go, and you would rather walk another five hours in the rain than stay in that house for a minute more.
you hear the familiar creak of floor board until footsteps approach the door. the door clicks and is swung open slowly to reveal your boyfriend's mom. her forehead creases at the sight of you, her lips tipping downards. "oh, honey,"
she pulls you in for a hug and the motherly affection compared to the mother you have at home causes you to sob into her arms. she takes your hand and pulls you inside, shutting the door behind you. "you're all wet," she says, taking in your outfit. "it's okay," she says, leading you to the kitchen table. "breathe. tell me what's wrong."
"i-i-i," you try to speak but your voice betrays you, shaking uncontrollably. the only thing your body knows how to do is cry at the moment.
"take your time, sweetheart." denise says.
"mum?" a familiar voice calls from the top of the staircase. "who was at the door?"
"come down, jude." denise says, returning to you to give you another hug. she rubs your back to slow down your breathing, and you find yourself relaxing the more she rubs your back.
you look up from denise's neck to see jude stepping into the kitchen. his face drops at the sight of yours. you feel self conscious for a moment, realising your face is probably red and puffy, your eyes bloodshot.
denise steps away and moves to the stove. "i'm going to make you some tea, okay?"
you nod, and jude envelops you in a hug. you immediately feel yourself relaxing, as if your body knows you're safe. he rubs your back and strokes your damp hair. your body shudders at the sudden warmth, and he pulls back to give you a kiss on the cheek. "mum, i'm going to go get her changed. she's shivering."
"okay. i'll have some tea and biscuits ready."
jude takes your hand and leads you upstairs. neither of you speak. when you get to his room, he unzips your jacket and pulls your tank top over your head. "i'm going to put these in the dryer for you, okay?"
you nod, wrapping your arms around yourself, goosebumps rising on your skin. jude notices and rubs your arms and then pulls you in for another hug. he rubs your shoulders and then pulls away to find you something to wear.
"is your bra wet, too?"
you look down at yourself. "a bit."
"i got an idea," jude leaves his room and a few minutes later returns with a blow dryer.
you find yourself laughing without realising it. he plugs it into an outlet on the ground and takes a seat with his knees up. he pats the space between his knees and you sit, your back to his legs. he turns the blow dryer on and runs his hands through your hair to shake the water droplets out. the warm heat makes you shiver, and he rubs your shoulders and the back of your neck with his thumbs. you feel so overcome with love for this boy. the way he's taking care of you, the way he wants you to be comfortable, and the way his mom and him, have become more of a family to you than your own have ever been.
when jude finally clicks the blow dryer off, your hair is completely dry, if not a bit frizzy from the mix of rain and heat.
your bra, too, is now completely dry, and jude takes your hand, pulling you up. "i'll get you something to wear."
he comes back with a hoodie in his hands, and you pull it over your head and tug the hood on. it's perfectly oversized on you, and you lean your face into the hood, inhaling the scent of him. "you don't gotta do that," jude grins. "you can smell me right here." with that, he pulls you into yet another hug. before you can realise it, he lifts you up bride style and sets you on his bed so you're now laying across his lap.
"now tell me, what's the matter." he tucks a strand of your hair behind your ear and you look away.
"i just don't get how anyone can have that much hatred for their own children," getting it off your chest feels amazing, like a weight has been lifted.
"you aren't any of the things she says you are, baby." he rubs your skin and pulls the blanket over the two of you. you bury your face in his chest, wanting to stay there forever.
"i feel like i've started to believe the things she says to me, that they're true."
"they aren't. i know you. i know you the best. i've seen every part of you, even the times when you get angry and when you get sad. and even then, you're perfect. you don't scream and fight. you're mature, emotionally aware, and just...i don't even know." jude huffs. "it pisses me off that anyone, especially your own mother, can't see that."
"i'm used to it," you say solemnly.
"you shouldn't have to be used to that."
"i guess..."
"i want you to move in with us." jude says abruptly.
"i can't do that, jude. it'll just cause more problems. my life will be hell if i even bring that up. we're only seventeen."
"okay, so a couple more months until you're an adult. then, you can come live with us."
"i'll see, jude. you know i would love that. you're more family to me than my own."
"well, that's what they always say, right. you choose your own family?"
"yeah," you agree, nuzzling your face into his neck.
the door opens, and denise stands with a plate of scones. "am i interrupting something?" she smiles. you blush hard and move your face from his neck, not wanting to disappoint her.
"no, mum. we were just talking."
"right," denise laughs. "talking. i'll leave you to it."
she leaves the plate of scones on his side table and shuts the door.
"thank you," you call, hoping she hears.
"of course, honey." she says from the other side of the door.
