Many authors of papers are on ResearchGate! You can ask for papers there, if they don’t just post a copy to download. If they’re associated with a college, you can usually find their email addresses in the department directory, also.

youtube creators used to make videos and upload them just because they wanted to whenever they wanted to but now if a bunch of good creators upload at once it's almost definitely just because it's deadline day for their sponsorship and all of them do the same ad read too. get that bag but man it is a little bit depressing to see

I regularly hear youtube creators mention offhand something like "I don't have anything to say, but the algorithm penalises intros that aren't long enough... anyway..." at the start of their videos. Video length, style and pacing can't be based on their best creative judgement or they'll drown on the platform. It's gotta fit whatever the current algorithm formula is and be designed to minimise the chances of random demonetisation. I wish they could be free. I wish to hear their own minds and hearts once more. Alas.

keep thinking about how I wrote in my dissertation about how every time a new form of public/social space emerges it's immediately popular with kids and teenagers who see it as a chance at freedom and then adults colonise it and kick them out. this happened with malls in the 80s and diners in the 50s and pool halls in the 20s. my dad was doing research on this trend in like 1975. and I was like "yeah so this is going to happen to the internet" and then five years later every government suddenly decided to ban kids from everywhere online. I hate being right especially when I don't even get paid for it
