@sooz-again sent me an ask (that definitely didn’t have to cross platforms on its way here) to tell her something interesting about any of my fics.

And I couldn’t pick one single fic to talk about, so instead I thought I’d share something about my writing process. Especially for my longer projects, I usually have a song (or group of songs for some of them) that really ties into whatever internal battle my characters are going through. It really becomes a guide for me and my characters to follow. And hearing them come up on my playlists can be just the inspiration I need to get pulled back into a project if I have it on the back burner for a while.

18. Are you musical? Play any instruments or sing? Would you ever perform for an audience?

Superstition and luck not so much, but I do think everything happens for a reason and that everything will turn out how it’s supposed to be.

I don’t carry good luck charms specifically, but I think I’ve mentioned before that whenever people ask me what I’d like as a present, I usually ask them for some kind of small accessory item (think like earrings, a ring, hair bows, or barrettes). I like seeing what they pick out for me, and knowing that I get to have a little bit of them with me. It feels better than a good luck charm 💚

18. Yep! I sing, played the flute, and make up song lyrics for fun. I used to perform a lot when I was younger but not so much anymore. I reserve my concerts for the car and showers these days 😅

1. What’s my blog title from?

So…Welcome to Loch Ness just goes with being Cryptid, specifically the Loch Ness monster which is my favorite Cryptid. I think back when I originally made this account I thought I would go by Nessie as my screen name but it never caught on 😅, and that’s fine. I like being Cryptid 😊

2. What movie have I seen most recently and what did I think of it?

Wicked for Good

I think they worked really, really hard to stretch it to be enough content for a second movie and not all of it was needed 😅 Don’t get me wrong, I love Wicked and always will but I probably would have rather they made it a super long single movie than split it up and leave the best content in the first half

3. What am I looking forward to?

I answered this for someone else, but I’ll come up with another one for you!

I’m looking forward to feeling like a strong and consistent enough runner to maybe run my first race this year 🏃🏻‍♀️

4. If I could do anything today what would it be?

Usually I have to think about questions like this, but I knew this one immediately. I want to wade along the shore of a beach somewhere warm—then read and and take a long nap in a hammock

5. My drink of choice?

BlackBerry, Raspberry, or Huckleberry lemonade and/or iced tea.

3. What am I looking forward to right now?

I accidentally, on purpose wrote the final lines of the manuscript I’m working on while day dreaming about the project so right now I’m most excited about getting from where I actually am in the project (about a third of the way in) and watching all those pieces come together to make it happen!

14. What could I give a TED talk on?

What’s been most relevant to the past 6 months for me is probably ‘how to overcome the mentality that you’re not a runner just because you hated the mile in high school gym class and you were set up to fail’, and the more positive version of ‘how to fall in love with running and make yourself wish you’d done it years ago’
