You have reached the sloth blog. I mostly post about marauders (wolfstar, prongsfoot, sucius, jilypad, wolfstarbucks and who knows what else will turn up). Prongsfoot is my otp though.

I’m not sure if this will be helpful to anyone, but you literally do not have to be a good writer to write and post fan fiction. Yes you will naturally get better at writing and finding your voice the more you do it but you do not have to be or become a professional level writer to enjoy writing and sharing fics. It’s common to hear people praise fic writers by saying their work is better than published books, and while I think this comes from a good place, that’s not the norm or expectation. There is also a sentiment that fic writing is “good practice” for becoming a better writer or doing something else later, but if fic is the only creative writing you ever do that is literally okay. Your technical skill does not mean you cannot have fun and build community with your writing, or that other people cannot love and find meaning in your work.

I remember when I was about 12, I watched a show on TLC that followed people as they got somewhat uncommon medical procedures.
There was one episode with a trans woman getting different gender-affirming operations, including breast implants. It showed the procedure, and (what I found so fascinating that it's stuck with me for decades), as soon as the doctor put the implant in, a censor blur popped up on the nipple.
And you just know there was a meeting between the TLC lawyers and the editors and producers of the show to discuss what the difference was between a "man nipple" (can be shown) and a "woman nipple" (no no must obscure, 'tis naughty). And they decided that as soon as the implant goes in and the nipple has more mass behind it, that's the moment when it becomes a woman's nipple and must be hidden to comply with TV rules.
But it's the same nipple. On the same person. I know what it looks like; I just saw it. But TV and obscenity rules are rules, and the rules say woman nipple = sexual and therefore explicit, but man nipple = neutral, just fine.
"Free the Nipple" was calling out arbitrary bullshit like that, because someone just existing with their body parts should not be considered obscene, and the double standard that men can be topless but women can't is so blatantly ridiculous. All nipples are just nipples. If you get turned on or bothered by them, that's on you.
I like to imagine teenage Sirius quite blunt and uncaring of social norms. The politeness we see from him in the books is something that he only starts to care about with age.
Call me old or whetever but I find it difficult to understand why you would want your face attached to your fandom activities. The online survaillance state culture is out of hand and your potential employers probably can search your picture, no wonder people have the need to make fandom culture so sanitized and social media friendly when their legal names and face publicly available.

Sirius works at a garage called Backdoor Garage & Repair. It doesn't actually belong to him; the owner is an old guy who named the place because it's tucked away in a tiny alley and customers have to go around and use the back door. Perfectly practical name, if you ask him. He has absolutely no clue why these young folks keep giggling every time they hear it.
Sirius only ended up working there by happenstance. He was looking for spare parts for Alphard's wrecked bike, and this old man just happened to be the only person who had any. Sirius kept coming back for more until, eventually, the owner told him he should just bring the bike over and fix it there instead. It's easier that way.
So he did. One repair turned into another, then he started helping out with other vehicles, and before long he was working there full-time. These days, Sirius practically runs the entire garage. The old man only shows up a few times a month to check the bookkeeping and make sure everything's still standing.
The bike has been fixed for ages now. It's in perfect condition. It's still sitting in the garage, though. Sirius hasn't ridden it since.
Sirius is distracting himself with work until I figure out what he should do.😅
