At The Birds & The Beets in Vancouver, Matthew Senecal-Junkeer's cafe-restaurant transitions from sandwiches and coffee in the day to wine and small plates at night. And recently, he's noticed his customers' price sensitivity changes from day to night, too. During café hours, every choice customers make — oat milk versus regular dairy, whether or not to add avocado to a sandwich — is driven by its price tag. "What we've seen is a shift down the price scale," said Senecal-Junkeer. "Our cheaper menu items sales have gone up really almost exponentially and [with] our pricier items on the menu, we've seen sort of a dip."

I have resisted asking for help, outright, for a long time, but I think it's about that time.

My partner and I are Black US Americans who have left the United States and live as immigrants in LATAM. I work in healthcare in the US, remotely, supporting marginalized communities, especially Black and LGBTQIA+ folks. My husband used to work supporting the Headstart Program in the US as a sub-contractor, but lost his job in Feb 2025 due to the DOGE cuts. He hasn't been able to find another job since, partly due to the fact that most remote jobs are not global remote, partly because the job market is so oversaturated, and partly because, as immigrants with temporary residency, getting a work visa where we are is a complicated process.

SO! If you are aware of a fully remote position (Full or part time, or even a temporary contract) for an experienced IT Support, Instructional Design, and/or Customer Satisfaction Project Manager, I would love if you could reach out and let me know. We are extremely lucky that my job is enough to pay most of our bills where we live, and do not take that for granted. We still have outstanding medical and credit card bills in the US, and my business is growing, but it's not enough to support us fully. We are not in the most dire of straits, but we could use a boost to help us stay on track and get things to a sustainable level.

Times have been really hard in the last couple of years, I am still working a full time job to support my disabled roommate but I am dealing with severe burn out while I catch up with my finances that have caused me significant stress.

I'm hoping to get my credit card paid off and be able to start fresh with better systems in place with my new budget. While me and my roommate navigate Canada's disability and support programs to get a leg up on the rising costs of living.

I don't have a deadline, but I'm hoping to get 5000$ CAD in the next few months to be debt free.

I am recovering from a fairly scary financial situation which has left me burnt out and very suicidal. I am the only breadwinner in my household and I am struggling to make time to get myself officially diagnosed to access programs to help me financially. My roommate is disabled and unable to work and if I can't stay afloat, we will both be homeless with our 3 cats.

Please help, I'm slipping on bills, I just got a notice that I'm owing back taxes that I don't have money for. Even sharing or a dollar or two helps.

As food banks across Canada continue to face record demand, billions of dollars worth of perfectly edible food is being thrown away over confusion tied to “best before” labels, a new report says. The report from Toronto-based food rescue organization Second Harvest found that nearly 23 per cent of avoidable food waste in Canada, worth over $12 billion, can be linked to outdated practices around date coding. “We are way behind on food waste strategy…. People are throwing away perfectly good food because they believe food is unsafe after a certain day,” said Lori Nikkel, CEO of Second Harvest.

hey, here's a link to look up your local MP's email to let them know that 1. we want to see the environmental assessment 2. no more data centres until regulatory law catches up.

Dear [your MP], [your MLA],

My name is [something] and I have been a resident of [city] for the past [x] years. I have seen the recent government announcements regarding AI data centres in British Columbia and I have serious concerns about the viability of these projects.

I am writing you both, as my MP and MLA respectively, to express these concerns in the hopes that you will push back against these plans as an obvious disaster in the making for BC and Canada.

AI data centres consume massive amounts of power and water, in addition to producing significant noise, heat, and air pollution. We are already living in a world where Vancouver has enacted its Stage 2 water restrictions - in May! Within the last year, BC Hydro has stated that the province will need an enormous increase in our power supply in the upcoming decade to account for rising demand - where on earth is that going to come from if these centres are getting 85% of their enormous power needs from BC Hydro? 

Are we really so short-sighted that we intend to commit ourselves to projects that will consume disproportionate amounts of our precious natural resources, over and above the needs of the actual citizens who live, work, and importantly, pay taxes here? Where are the environmental and viability assessments for these centres? What is the regulatory scheme that will provide oversight and enforcement for these centres? Who is responsible for ensuring that they don't create a negative effect on the lives of your constituents? 

As a [city] resident, I hope you will be pushing back against these plans and raising these concerns in your upcoming legislative sessions. Canada and BC should be investing our limited natural resources in sustainable, renewable projects that will benefit residents in the long term, not line the pockets of Telus executives in the short term.

why do I need to provide proof of address and photo ID to do everything? because we had to create a really hostile environment for migrants

why can't you sit anywhere? well because god forbid people sleep when they're pushed out of shelter. can't risk that.
