Don’t we all…

That kitchen scene was so well done. They AREN'T the perfect couple - they have to work at their relationship just like any couple does. But it was the nuance in all of it, from Delia's tremulous voice to Patsy closing her eyes, knowing that she has hurt her. Add to that the juxtaposition of the deliriously happy moment they had on Delia's arrival and the pain is amplified all the more.

The following scene in the bedroom where Delia is so supportive is just as good but I love this scene because it really kicks you in the feels.

-OMG IF THEY MANUFACTURE SOME SORT OF ROMANTIC CONFLICT WITH THIS THAT DAMN OCEAN WILL NOT BE ENOUGH OF A BARRIER TO KEEP ME FROM BEATING DOWN THE DOORS OF CASTLE TURNER 

-remember back when I asked you all about how Shelagh has certainly pushed beyond her vow of poverty (one to go–next series, Shelagh stages a coup!)?  An au pair kind of smacks of a financial entitlement.  Of course, that could be jealousy talking.  I will admit to breaking the tenth commandment regarding a neighbor’s au pair (and cleaning lady… and gardener).  

-have the Turners become, with their shiny new castle and an au pair, the nouveau riche of Poplar?  

-do we really need another character?  Even a minor one?

-If the Turners are getting an au pair, that does seem to point us in the direction of Shelagh being available to work more, which will take her out of the home and put her in the working world, which is my preference

-how common were au pairs, really, in 1963 Poplar?  I would more likely believe a Mrs Penney in the background character.

My problem is with the whole motherhood thing.  Shelagh was desperate for a baby, couldn't have one and then adopted the gorgeous Angela.  Last season was miracle pregnancy!

Now they have two young children.  This is 1963.  I just can't imagine Shelagh choosing to go to work over being a stay at home mother.  The only reason my mum worked when we were kids was because they couldn't afford for her not to. (Prior to her falling pregnant she was a draughtswoman for the Ministry of Works and earned more than my father).  And that was the 70s - a decade later when things really were moving forward.  

It's great that Shelagh is working but is she really that ahea of her time? I would have a better time accepting her returning to work part time - but then, that wouldn't justify the cost of an au pair.

I feel a bit robbed because I only discovered Call the Midwife last year.  But I am glad I found it.

More importantly, I have made some real friends through writing again.  So there is much to be grateful for.

And I just wanted to say that I love the whole editing part. I love rereading a paragraph one-million times and discovering that there is an entire fucking word missing on reread one-million and one.

I love when I’ve been staring at something I don’t really like but can’t articulate why and suddenly the thing that is wrong makes itself known.

I love betas. Everyone should have one or six. Betas should not just be for grammar.

I love when betas are all ‘this is garbage, fix it.’ I want to know. Please tell me about the garbage. About the dialogue that is crap. About the sentences that just don’t have the right rhythm. About the character that has slipped into OOC land. About the giant plot holes. All of it.
