Chaturanga Actions Vs EngagementsChaturanga is simple yet it brings up a lot of confusion and that’s because it’s an eccentric contraction of the muscles - this means your muscles are engaging while they are lengthening. Easy example - the bicep muscles are what bend your elbow in a bicep curl. When you have a weight in your hand and contract the biceps you Concentricly engage it - it shortens and your elbow bends, the weight is now up by your shoulder. Eccentric contraction happens on the way down - the biceps still engage as you lower the weight, but now the weight and gravity are stronger than the amount of bicep engagement so a lengthening of the muscle is occurring. This is the same for the triceps and serratus anterior in chaturanga as discussed in the video.
