does anyone have that one painting with the ghosts standing in the water?
like theyre in the water and they're staring off to the side and there's something so very wrong about it and they're bending over and trailing along like deer in the headlights but you can't see what they're staring at which might make it even scarier
like this
I FUCKING FOUND IT.

by the way, the artist is olivia steen (website linked above) and apparently, her other works are just as breathtakingly eerie

2. Suave Essentials Tropical Coconut drives honeybees absolutely bugfuck wild
3. He's allergic to bees
Itâs likely the scent! Banana scent (Isoamyl acetate) is the same scent as the aggression pheromone bees put out when theyâre angry. Never eat bananas near bees! Always check your lotion, sunscreen, etc bottles for banana scent or isoamyl acetate before going near bees
So you're telling me that when bees get mad they start violently smelling like bananas?
Can confirm! In (hopefully) very rare cases, a large hive full of pissed off bees smells a lot like bananas! Usually thereâs not nearly enough of them for humans to be able to smell it, though.
@cyber-flow thank you for the funniest tags I've seen all day.

Fun fact: by court order, no Burger King franchise is allowed to operate within this black circle, a 20 mile radius around an independent local restaurant named Burger King that had used the name first
habitable zone
Iâve wanted to visit it for years. The town itâs in also has a Bagelfest that looks extremely entertaining.Â
In Ireland the prefix Mc or Mac on a second name is part of our history and language. A lot of people have names like McGraw or McGuire. Also in Ireland, as a left over of how Irish language works, its not unusual to give someone a sort of nickname by adding âyoung(small)â or âbigâ in front of their name. (it flows better in Irish but we still do it). This combined with an abbreviation of second names being used as their nickname youd end up with people being called âYoung Daveâ or, and Iâm sure you can see where this is going, âBig Macâ
In 1978 one such person opened a fast food restaurant called Supermacs and they just happened to sell a burger called a Big Mac. They became wildly popular and can be found in most towns in Ireland. Their food is actually pretty good.
Now, a certain large restaurant chain didnât take kindly to this cuz they thought they owned the idea first (they didnât) and they brought the relitively small fast food chain to court to force them to stop using the name âbig macâ and anything with the prefix Mc. Yaknow, the way Irish people have named ourselves since before Irish was a written language.
In a wild twist they lost and in doing so lost all exclusivity of the prefixes in all of Ireland so now any restaurant can sell a âbig macâ and they do. Most chipshops do a Big Mac of some variety.
Unfortunately McDonalds werenât happy with this for some reason and brought the case to the European Courts in 2019 or so⊠and THEY FUCKIN LOST AGAIN.
So, if youâre ever in Ireland you should treat yourself to a Supermacs. Not cuz theyâre food is amazing, itâs not, itâs just ok but by god the idea that some rich fuckin assholes spend years in courts and spent a fortune trying to sue a small buisness out of their family name and then lost, twice, sure does make it taste amazing.
Thereâs an extra-savoury flavour about this.
Yeah, there absolutely is. :)
That fuckin smile at the end
To the worried person in the comments:Â
No, a hummingbirdâs heart will not stop if it stops moving. Youâre possibly thinking of Spoink, which is a Pokemon that supposedly powers its heart by bouncing, and as such canât stop moving. Hummingbirds donât sit often because theyâre busy looking for food, but they can and do sit. The females sit on eggs in nests, after all, and they do have to sleep.Â
Fun fact: the leg muscles of a hummingbird are so stripped down to save on weight that they cannot walk. They can step sideways along a branch or other perch, but they cannot go forward without taking flight.
However they absolutely do stop moving. In fact, hummingbirds hibernate! Overnight. Instead of sleeping. Because if they tried to sleep like a normal animal their hyperactive metabolism would mean that they starve to death before breakfast.
Unrelated fun fact: the primary Aztec god of war would take on the form of a hummingbird, and the souls of the bravest warriors were said to turn into hummingbirds in order to join him after death, presumably because every hummingbird is approximately four grams of pure concentrated asskicking which fears no man nor beast and will gladly throw down with somebody seventeen thousand times their size if offended.
this is a really cool post and i love seeing such a small bird but reading âNo, a hummingbirdâs heart will not stop if it stops moving. Youâre possibly thinking of Spoinkâ killed meÂ
Thereâs a populist instinct to support policies like term limits that are percieved as being personally harmful to politicians, when in reality those policies actually only hurt politicians to the benefit of lobbyists rather than to the benefit of citizens.
Congressional pay is another. My (unpaid) Hill internship totally changed my perspective on this, and I was happy to see AOC talk about it too. People always say we should cut how much we pay congress, when in reality lowering corruption means expanding congressional pay. Hill jobs pay terribly, and on purpose! I work at a non-profit, and Iâm paid better than basically everyone I know around my age whoâs working on Capitol Hill.
The reason is simple: if you keep Capitol Hill pay low, then youâll have lots of people going through there briefly to get experience and make connections, and then they cash out after a few years by moving to a lobbyist/consultant/etc. position that will pay them way, way better to use their experience and connections to lobby on behalf of a gas company or whoever. Hill staff is way younger than people expect (Iâd say the majority are under 40), because the job market is designed to encourage people to work on the Hill just so they can make bigger bucks on K Street. If they were well-payed, they would just stay on the Hill as a career, and if that happened, then Hill staffers wouldnât have to rely on ex-Hill lobbyists for information as much! Itâs a cycle of normalized corruption.
If you want a government free of corruption, the people staffing it and working in it should not be struggling to pay bills or looking to apply for jobs elsewhere, because thatâs what produces a culture of âfavorsâ and a revolving door between government and private sector.
(Also unpaid internships serve as a filter to keep poor kids, who canât afford several months of living in DC, from ever having a shot at working in national politics)

COVID is slowly becoming a "third world" disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can't get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.
Watch also when some first world countries finish vaccinating their populations, they will turn to third world countries and "donate" or sell surplus vaccines. People in these countries will go "Oh how sweet! The government is donating vaccines to the poorer countries <3" when it was their hoarding that led to many, many third world citizens dying before they could even get vaccinated in the first place.
african and latin american countries are also pushed by pfizer to give up sovereign assets as part of their vaccine agreement
Yo europeans, sign the fucking petition, get the european commission to lift the patents
Everyone deserves protection from COVID-19.
This is not a bullshit useless change dot org petition by the way this is an actual thing with legal consequences. If this petition gets to a million signatures, the european commission HAS to examine it.
They need not only a million signatures but to pass thresholds in at least seven member states - which only Belgium has done so so far. Especially if you have Italian, Irish, or Cypriot citizenship, please sign. Sign it in general, but try to circulate if you can to anyone with those nationalities specifically.

Dr. Alan Braid publicly admitted that he violated the near-total ban on abortions in Texas during the first week after the law went into effect.
In an op-ed published online by The Washington Post on Saturday, Dr. Braid discussed graduating from the University of Texas medical school in 1972, before the Roe v. Wade decision.
At the hospital that year, I saw three teenagers die from illegal abortions. One I will never forget. When she came into the ER ⊠she died a few days later from massive organ failure, caused by a septic infection,â he explained. âIn medical school in Texas, weâd been taught that abortion was an integral part of womenâs health care. When the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Roe v. Wade in 1973, recognizing abortion as a constitutional right, it enabled me to do the job I was trained to do.â
I have spent the past 50 years treating and helping patients. I canât just sit back and watch us return to 1972.â
Donate here at the Center for Reproductive Rights. Theyâre representing Dr. Braid and fighting the good fight. (4 star Charity Navigator charity)
Also, to be clear:
The person suing him is not a villain.
The person suing him is ON HIS SIDE, but recognizes that a judicial review will quickly strike down this law.
They did it on purpose to trigger judicial review. So yes, absolutely, donate to the Center, but also donât feel like youâre fighting a hopeless fight hereâthis has been very carefully choreographed.
If a suit filed under the stateâs new law ever makes it in front of a judge, abortion-rights advocates will have a direct opening to raise t
Itâs very much worth mentioning that the organizations that pushed for and funded this bill are REFUSING to sue Dr. Braid. They donât want this to go to court with someone who is going to be able to mount a serious defense. They wanted to frighten and punish women. Period.

For more on the expropriation referendum (written before it passed)
Rather than limit its aims to âaffordability,â the campaign cuts deeper in its critique of the private housing market itself. As residents featured in one recent ad proclaimed: âOur neighborhood isnât a financial product.â
