No seriously I love drawing this man with a weapon.

My favorite part of collecting shot glasses is that, yeah, you can buy a shitty one from any touristy beach shop but you can also get one with Napoleon on it from the Waterloo gift shop after you climb like 200 steps up the Lion's Mound and the emotional weight of those shot glasses is not the same
"i could fix him" yeah? well i could accept him as he is. you don't like the murder? grow up. the atrocities are part of him and ive decided they're funny
War Daddy, euthanize me.

*Me sitting down to write smut.*
But first! We must thoroughly understand this man's fractured and devastated sense of self. Only then can we truly appreciate how connected he feels to her while finger-banging the soul from her body.
A year later and I still hate how this show boiled down its main characters to fussing over a man. Says the Zeta fan but least Fa had agency outside Kamille and also criticises dedicating life to a man via Reccoa, well least attempted to. Two amazing ideas they had with a Zeon wins story and a time travel story but it was executed so poorly. Would love to see if the show gaf about its female characters to see why Lalah kept resetting the timeline outside Char, cus it coulda been interesting to see her character be something more than a tragedy to further the arcs of two men. also the way the ending was almost legit a dance party ending you see in dreamworks movies. Machu: Noo shuji, you dont have to kill Lalah! Shuji: Oh man, you're so right Machu, I agree, lemme kiss you. Machu: YAAAY IM SO HAPPY Lalah: Okay I'll leave now, bye, nice seeing yas Nyaan: and luckily nobody died except the bad guys who had no screen time! *Machu and Nyaan dance party ensues* If I ever go insane, you will see a 2 Million word fanfiction rewriting this show on ao3 istfg.

Posted on AO3
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: William Tavington/Original Female Character
Word Count: 8,644
Literary Themes: SMUT
Summary: Miss Parker was not consulted when her parents offered their comfortable country estate to the Green Dragoons to serve as headquarters and lodgings. Barred from her home and with a trip to Charles Town planned for the morning, she decides that the only thing to do is to sneak inside to retrieve the rest of her things. She does not expect to be caught and certainly not by a Colonel with ice blue eyes and no patience for her situation. But he seems to be warming up to her…
Or: William Tavington is run ragged by the war and decides he deserves some fun. As a treat.
Part To Play
A Mirror Gabriel Lorca/Katrina Cornwell fic inspired by this image by the infinitely talented @brushbanshee. When I saw that the final image was of Mirror Lorca, I just had to reimagine the scene I thought of for the original sketch with Mirror Lorca trying to navigate the Prime universe and Prime Kat. This is the result.
Rating: T
Word Count: 1500 (I swear it started out as a drabble)
CW: Mirror Lorca is an evil bastard, but I love him.
YOU'RE ALL SO WELCOME AGAIN
I COULDN'T BE MORE PROUD
And this fic is BRILLIANT 🤌🤌🤌
So seriously go read it. You're only hurting yourself if you don't 🤷🏼♀️
For some reason, Stardust Memory was one of the first shows I watched as I began my journey into the expansive world of Gundam back in early 2024. Lacking context for almost everything that was happening in a series that acts as a sort of short form, fill-in-the-blanks between Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 and Zeta Gundam, I was nonetheless fascinated by the story and characters. Specifically, by antagonist Anavel Gato. Mainly by his simple motivations and unwavering determination to succeed in his mission, but also by his hair.
I have since learned that this kind of nuance is one of the main draws of Gundam as a whole, but I still find myself returning to Stardust again and again. It’s unsurprising, then, that Stardust Memory was the subject of the first Gundam fanfiction I ever wrote, a still ongoing fix-it fic of sorts that explores the tangled relationship between Gato and Nina Purpleton while also trying to correct the rushed pacing and inconsistent characterization that plagues the latter half of the show. Despite this, frustrating as it is, Stardust remains one of my favorite and most rewatched pieces of the Gundam universe.
My first viewing of anything Gundam is usually met by a repeated string of “What the fuck is happening?” Stardust Memory proudly followed this tradition. I was hooked from the first battle between Gato and protagonist Kou Uraki, when Kou accidentally and automatically calls Gato “Sir” only to get the succinct response of “I’m the enemy, you idiot!” In Gato’s first (of many) speeches to Kou, he berates the young Federation pilot for lacking understanding of and belief in what he’s fighting for. This is the beginning of the series-long examination of Gato’s single-minded dedication to the Zeon cause, or at least his belief that anyone fighting in a war should have a cause. This is contrasted with Kou’s (initially) more naïve perspectives on a world recovering from a war that he was too young to fight in.
Gato stands out from common antagonist tropes and from the antagonists of many other Gundam series. He’s not fighting for his own power or gain, or to fulfill a personal vendetta or crusade, or to exact revenge upon any one individual. He’s fighting for a cause, but it isn’t one that stands to benefit him in any material way in the end. He’s fighting for a greater purpose which he’s willing to sacrifice anything and everything to serve. Gato is, simply, a zealot.
We’re shown bits and pieces of Gato’s backstory as Stardust Memory unfolds (although this is also explored in other media, such as the one-shot Nightmare of Solomon and the manga retelling of the series, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Rebellion) One piece of information we are given early on is his nickname “The Nightmare of Solomon.” It’s a name that strikes fear in the hearts of the young Federation pilots who learned about him in school. Of course, since I watched Stardust early in my still ongoing Gundam journey, I had no idea what Solomon was or anything about its significance. As I later learned, and as is revealed in the show, Gato earned his name by mounting a rear-guard defense of the Zeon retreat during the Federation assault on the Space Fortress Solomon near the end of the One Year War. The number of Federation vessels and mobile suits that he single-handedly took down, as well as the ferocity with which he did it, earned him a place in Federation textbooks and in the memories of those who fought him.
A later scene halfway into the series shows Gato in a rare moment of solitary contemplation before launching the assault on the Federation Naval Review. Hair down, hollow eyes reflected in the window through which he views the blackness of space, he’s surrounded by the floating hulks of the ships and suits destroyed in the Battle of Solomon, now a graveyard for Federation and Zeon alike. In the first episode of Stardust, one of the first looks we get of Gato is also one of the most revealing. About to climb into his suit to launch back out into the battle of A Baoa Qu, in a suicidal sortie against impossible odds, he’s stopped by Delaz, who tells him that he must remain behind so as to continue to fight for Zeon another day. “For now, you must endure.” (Neither here nor there, but that phrase has become a motto in my house over the last year and a half)
This scene gives us a foundational understanding of Gato’s character that is built upon over the rest of the series. He’s a young solider with such an unwavering devotion and commitment to following orders that he’s willing to die or, perhaps more importantly, willing to live. And it’s apparent that living is a burden that he shoulders so that he can personally see Operation Stardust through to its conclusion. Like Char’s actions that will occur ten years later (in universe) in 0093, Gato takes on the mantle of leader, martyr, and monster so as to bring about a better future. Unlike Char, Gatos plays out his part with a kind of simplicity – less complicated, less nuanced, less obscured behind layers of overlapping and conflicting motivations.
Yes, Gato is a strategist and a leader, but he’s still a soldier of Zeon, something that Char never truly was. And Gato’s actions are singularly in pursuit of fulfilling that role. He followed the leadership of Dozle Zabi until that leadership was gone and then he followed Admiral Delaz and a cold statue of Gihren Zabi, remaining ever fanatical in his devotion. If he ever second guesses himself or has hidden motivations, we’re not privy to those moments.
More than anything else, the thing that Gato seems to hate most in Kou Uraki is the young man’s lack of commitment to the Federation and his lack of understanding of what the Federation even truly stands for. And Kou does lack commitment. Like every other Gundam protagonist, he is plagued by the dangerous and sometimes fatal notion that enemy soldiers are people. Combined with his own pride and inexperience, this leads him to recklessly damage the Gundam, accidentally desert, aid a Zeon pilot in rebuilding a dangerous mobile armor, and ultimately question his own dedication. But as Gato likely did as a young pilot during the opening months of the One Year War, Kou learns the lessons of war well. Driven by the repeated assaults from Gato, Cima, and the rest of the Delaz Fleet, Kou is forced to embrace the reality of warfare and grow into a soldier no less dedicated than Gato. Ironically, as the men come closer together, any chance of a peaceful resolution moves further out of reach.
Anavel Gato should have joined his comrades in their cold grave in the Solomon Sea. Instead, he endured additional years of planning, waiting, and living in order to be the one who completed all phases of Operation Stardust. And whoever Gato was when he joined the Zeon Space Forces at the start of the One Year War, he was no longer that person by the time he reached the Battle of A Baoa Qu. He became only a vessel for the execution of the crusade of the Zabis, eventually filtered through the leadership of Admiral Delaz. In a way, Gato may be the man who can be called a pure soul, unstained by doubt as he methodically implements the vision of the men he worships.
