The fact that Frodo's parents died when he was young, his uncle left him just when he came of age, he inherited the devil in the form of a ring, WILLINGLY went on a suicide mission, lost everything he cared about including himself, was left with aches and pains, and ultimately in a way had to die to get his happy ending, is the reason why I can't sleep and why when they shovel dirt on my corpse the dirt won't be as heavy as the second hand despair and anger I get from him.

thinking about sam’s “don’t you let go” when frodo’s dangling on the ledge of mount doom at the end of return of the king. it all looks hopeless, and we’ve both known for a while that we’re going to die here, but don’t give into it. don’t treat your life as though it’s had all the worth sapped out of it. take those few extra seconds. don’t let yourself burn to death alone when you could spend your last moments holding somebody’s hand, your mind free of the ring. i said i wasn’t gonna leave you, and i mean it, even now. don’t go where i can’t follow. not yet. not until i’ll be following close behind.
