Ok, so I don’t really have an ‘on repeat’ playlist, cause my iTunes list never fully imported onto my phone (which is a pain in the ass) so I’m just going hit shuffle on the entire list I do have in Apple Music and see what happens
Oh good lord what will happen 🤦🏻♀️

Well that’s a weird selection, ok then. Also I keep Burger Dog from Bluey queued up on my phone at all times just in case hubs’ phone disconnects in his car and switches to mine 😝
@evangeliamerryll @spicy-cleanness and anyone else, never any pressure peeps 😁
Little’s on a sleepover, so hubs and I are watching what we’re calling the ‘Brian Cox Cinematic Universe’
We watched both Super Troopers and now we’re trying to watch Troy
Excellent genre shift, we know
Also I’m a wee bit drunk, which is great
Edit: well fucksies, the disc won’t work, and no one’s got Troy for free, so our BCCU night might be done earlier than we expected. That’s killing my buzz. We’ve got one last long shot to watch for free so 🤞
Ok, so this is going to be a bit personal, but I’ve got to get it out somewhere, cause I’m a writer and I write things down to get them out. It’s going under the cut, so if you don’t want to read it, feel free to scroll by, I understand
So I got an email yesterday on my work email from the president of the local schools foundation. It was to me and the second secretary at my building. Apparently our principal recommended the two of us as peeps who may be interested in helping out at the foundation’s September fundraiser by taking a shift sitting in the dunk tank. Which, haha, thanks for that boss
Here’s the part where it gets personal: the fundraiser is on the same day as the 22nd anniversary of losing my older brother. Ok, not too weird yet, so here’s the part that I can’t quite say is in poor taste, because this foundation president lady doesn’t know me and my boss doesn’t know me well enough to know what happened to my older brother: my older brother drowned in a boat accident. (I won’t say more because it is a very google-able event and I don’t want to dox myself to tumblr)
To sum up: boss recommended me for a fundraiser dunk tank on the anniversary of losing my brother in a river. Yes, you may chuckle darkly at that, I certainly did before blinking rapidly to keep my eyes dry
I absolutely will not be explaining that to my boss when I politely decline, like I said, she would have no way of knowing that about me or my brother
I haven’t said anything to hubs or my mom or dad or younger brother because I don’t think any of them would put it together the same way I have, (especially since I don’t mourn on that day like they all do. I mourn two days later on the anniversary of the day he was found. And I’ve argued that many times with them over the years and we all have come to accept that we each do what we each need)
So thanks for letting me get that out, I know a lot of that is just the weird way my own brain works, but, well, there it is

A/N: Here we go! The final two POVs for the first year at the academy! What a year it has been for Len and Scotty and we’re so glad you joined them on that journey. Thanks for reading and liking!
(And thank you @thesconesyard for writing this amazing story with me 💚🫂 You’re the best co-writer ever and I look forward to whatever we’ll write next!)
Part 759
McCoy
McCoy glanced over at Eugene as their instructor gave the last directions for their final. Eugene noticed and grinned at him. He smiled back, feeling just as confident as the other boy. As soon as he finished the test, their first year at Starfleet would be finished. And what a year it had been. Planning a campus wide party while studying for finals may have been stressful, but it was going to be worth it in just a few hours.
“We’re done!”
McCoy laughed as Eugene joined him outside their classroom. He had finished first and waited, knowing Eugene would be finished soon after him.
“One year down, how many more to go?”
“Don’t spoil the moment,” Eugene pretended to glare at him. They began to walk and leave the classroom behind.
“I know it’s going to keep getting harder,” Eugene continued, “but it feels so good knowing we’ve got this far already.”
“You can say that again,” McCoy agreed. He pushed the door open and held it.
“We got this far, we can keep getting farther. But for now, we deserve a break.”
McCoy tapped in the door code to his room and dropped his things on his desk as he entered.
“How’d ye do?” Scotty turned from working on something at his desk to look at McCoy.
The prince shrugged. “No results until morning. But I think I did good.”
“Of course ye did!” Scotty exclaimed as he got up to embrace McCoy. “Ye’ve done well on every exam.”
“Thanks. You have too.” He moved forward and kissed his husband. He began to smirk as he pulled back. “So, do we have a bit of time? Or does Jim think we all need to be there right away?”
“Mad man,” Scotty murmured. “Ye ken ye and Eugene were the last ones testing. And Jim knows that too. So, no love, we’ve not got the time for that.”
McCoy sighed dramatically. “Dammit Jim.”
“Be nice,” Scotty chuckled. “We’ll have plenty of time tonight and we’ve got a whole summer in front of us.”
“I guess that will have to suffice,” McCoy continued in his dramatic voice.
“Go on,” Scotty laughed at him. “Get changed and we can go help with the rest of set up.”
People were beginning to gather around the plaza.
“Guess it’s time,” Christine said.
“Everything’s ready to go,” Sulu agreed.
“Light it up Jim,” Uhura said with a fond shake of her head.
“Yes!” Jim pumped his fist in the air and moments later music began filling the air.
Slowly more people were coming.
“Just Leonard!” Jaylah cried at him.
“Oh no,” McCoy muttered to himself. He could tell exactly what was on the alien girl’s mind.
“We can dance and then others will join!” Jaylah said and she reached for his arm.
“Why me?” he asked, as he moved to join her. “You’ve got Aporal.”
Jaylah laughed. “You are the better dancer,” she leaned in and said in his ear. “Don’t tell him!”
McCoy threw a sly glance at Aporal, but the Andorian didn’t seem to notice. Somehow he knew Aporal wouldn’t want to be in the spotlight as the first pair dancing.
“What if I want to dance with Scotty?” McCoy continued his fake protest.
“Later,” Jaylah said, grinning.
McCoy sighed and shook his head like Uhura had done at Jim. “Let’s dance.”
Part 760
Scotty
The party was a complete success. Not only were most of the cadets there, but Scotty—who was busy selling popcorn and snacks—even spotted a couple of teachers.
He smiled conspiratorially when he saw Flores and Flemming not too far away, enjoying a few drinks together at the bar. When Lt. Flemming glanced around and noticed that the Scotsman had spotted her with the other instructor, she blushed slightly, but Scotty just gave her a friendly nod. He was happy for his advisor. She deserved it. And so did Flores.
He let his eyes wander further and saw many happy people moving to the beat of the music.
His friends, whom he’d known for ages.
Nyota, chatting with Keenser. Pavel, trying to flirt with a pretty cadet, who was simply ignoring him. Christine, dancing with Roger. Spock and Sulu, standing behind the bar and handing out drinks. Jim, who had taken on the role of the DJ and was jumping around wildly. And, of course, Jaylah, who had once again dragged Leonard onto the dance floor. Everyone was celebrating exuberantly after successfully completing their first year.
And their new friends were enjoying the evening, too.
Scotty spotted Eugene dancing with Cora. All under Declan’s watchful eye. Even though he liked Eugene, he still kept a close eye on his little sister.
The Scotsman paused as he scanned the crowd for another familiar face but couldn’t see it anywhere. Where was—
“Hey, Scottish boy. Want me to take over for you?”
Scotty turned around in surprise before smiling.
“There ye are, Aporal. I was starting to think ye were hiding somewhere amid all this commotion.”
The Andorian just shrugged.
“It’s actually pretty okay here. I’m not alone, after all.”
Scotty couldn’t help but smile even more when he heard those words.
Aporal. A cadet whom he’d initially thought of as quite the show-off and a jerk had, over time, become one of his closest friends. He’d slowly warmed up, and beneath his tough exterior, a loyal, gentle core had emerged.
“Nay. Ye’re not alone. Never.”
For a moment, Scotty thought he saw a few tears in his Andorian friend’s eyes, but the man quickly blinked them away and nudged the Scotsman aside.
“Come on. I’ll take it from here. Go dance with your prince.”
Scotty just grinned and patted the other man on the shoulder.
“Thanks, laddie.”
“May I?” Scotty asked when the music slowed down. He had quickly found Leonard and Jaylah in the crowd.
“Sure, Montgomery Scotty. I do not want to dance slow with Just Leonard anyway. He’s better at fast dancing,” Jaylah said and eventually released Leonard from her grip.
“Hey! Not true.”
Scotty just chuckled softly as he took his husband’s hand and watched Jaylah heading towards the bar.
“Finally time to relax,” Leonard breathed in relief once their friend was gone. “You can’t believe how much energy that girl has.”
“Oh, trust me, I can. Who do ye think danced with her before ye joined our group of friends?”
“Well, I guess we both deserve a break and a slow dance,” Leonard said as they began to move to the beat.
“Aye.”
The two of them fell silent, quietly enjoying each other’s company. They had done it. They had actually finished their first year at the academy. Everything that had happened led to this evening. All the highs and lows. All the fun and sad times. It had been one hell of a year, but when they looked back at it now, they couldn’t help but feel happy and grateful.
“Leannan?”
Scotty looked up at hearing Leonard’s voice.
“Hmm?”
“I love you.”
“Tha gaol agam ort,” the Scotsman softly returned and when the two of them kissed, they knew that much more happiness was going to come their way. After all, a whole summer together awaited them.
McCoy headed across campus towards the dining hall for lunch. The group’s party planning had picked up steam over the last weeks. There had been more than a few arguments- fortunately, quickly sorted out- but McCoy knew that on this day temper’s would be short. He took a deep breath himself, knowing once again Jim wouldn’t be happy that McCoy would be late to their last planning meeting that afternoon.
Though, everything that could be possibly thought of, or planned for was taken care of. All that was left was to throw the thing and that would happen the following evening.
He sighed. What had they been thinking to take on such a task at the same time they all had to be studying for their final exams? That alone had caused most of the disagreements. There had been two sides. One group of them wanted to have the party the week before finals and the other wanted it as a celebration after everyone’s last final. Slowly, the second group had won everyone over.
So now it was Thursday of finals week. Someone, McCoy was sure it was one of the girls, had convinced Jim to let them all study and focus on their tests the last week. Jim had agreed, but only if they had one last meeting the day before.
Campus had been quiet all week as everyone studied. McCoy had noticed one cadet quietly weeping in the library earlier in the week. He could imagine what they were feeling, he had felt like screaming a few times too when all his reading and studying had kept him from spending time with Scotty like he wanted. But now he was almost there. Another final that afternoon and one on Friday and he would be done with their first year at Starfleet. A smile slowly spread on his face. Who would ever have guessed this was where Georgiares’ prince would end up?
Stress was in the air of the dining hall as McCoy sat down with his lunch at the normal table. He bumped his knee into Scotty’s.
“Ok?”
Scotty turned a tight smile at him.
“Just want to be done,” Scotty said softly.
McCoy grinned. “At least we finished with Madison already.”
Scotty shook his head. “Mad man.”
“Hey Jaylah,” McCoy greeted her as she sat down across from him. “How’d your Fed history final go?”
“I do not want to talk about it Just Leonard,” Jaylah sighed. “I am sure I mixed up all my dates.”
“I’m sure you did fine,” Aporal said next to her. “You’ve been reciting them in your sleep.” Aporal suddenly colored as he realized what he had said, and glanced around at the few friends at the table.
“That would be great if I could take the test while I slept,” Jaylah snapped back, oblivious to the look Chekov was giving her and Aporal.
“It’s alright lass,” Scotty soothed. “I’m sure we’ve all passed. I struggled with my first aid basics, but I did alright. Ye will too.”
“Hey guys!” Jim said as he sat. “I think people are getting excited for tomorrow! I’ve heard some buzz about it while walking around.”
“That’s good,” McCoy said. “Hate to stress ourselves out and not have it be good.”
“Of course it’s going to be good! It’s going to be great!” Jim enthused. “Good thing we put those fliers out early. I had a couple ideas—”
“No. No more ideas,” Uhura said as she and Christine joined them. “We’re not changing a thing.”
“But—”
“No. It’s perfect and today’s meeting is just for running through how everything will go,” Christine said. “You have more ideas, save them for next time.”
“Next time?” Jim jumped on the words. “Should we do this every year?”
Everyone groaned.
“Do not make us think about that yet!” Chekov pleaded.
Part 758
Scotty
“I’m so done.” Scotty let out a heavy sigh as he dropped his back onto the ground and fell face forward onto the bed. “Finally! Semester break,” he exclaimed, however, his words were muffled by the pillow.
“Yeah, well, I wish I could say the same,” Leonard said, a forced smile on his lips. He had sat down in his office chair. Scotty moved his head to the side to look at his husband, sympathetically.
“Oh, I’m sorry, mo ghràdh. I totally forgot that ye have one more test tomorrow,” he apologized, but Leonard waved it off.
“It’s okay. I’m happy for you. And tomorrow we’ll celebrate together.”
Scotty smiled softly.
“Aye, we will. I just hope that everything will go according to plan. We worked so hard for this party to be good and I really don’t want anything to go wrong.”
After all, there were so many things that could get out of hand or be forgotten or–
“Everything will be just fine,” Leonard assured him, interrupting his worried thoughts, but the Scotsman couldn’t help a critical noise leaving his mouth.
“I’m not so sure. Ye know our bad luck, don’t ye?” he reminded Leonard who just shrugged his shoulders.
“Even more of a reason for everything to go as planned. We deserve it.”
That made Scotty chuckle.
“Well, for now we deserve some well earned rest.” He patted the free space next to him.
“But I need to go through my notes again. Just to be sure I won’t fail the test tomorrow,” Leonard protested.
“Ye’ve learned enough. Time to ease yer mind and just relax.”
Finally, a smile crossed the prince’s lips.
“How can I say no to that look on the pretty face of yours?”
Scotty smirked.
“Ye cannae.”
“I can’t believe it! We did it! We finally finished all our exams!” Jim exclaimed happily when they all gathered at the huge plaza where their party would take place. “This calls for the biggest party ever!”
“Sounds like a great plan to me.”
Everyone turned at hearing that voice. Florian was walking over to them, hands in his pockets. He was smiling.
“Florian! Hey. How did your exams go?” Nyota asked cheerfully.
Scotty couldn’t help but notice just how enthusiastic she sounded. Now that he came to think of it, his friend had actually spent quite a lot of her time with the senior cadet over the last few weeks. The Scotsman smiled at the thought. That was really interesting.
“All done. And I have a pretty good feeling about it. I won’t get the results until tomorrow though. But I’m pretty sure soon enough I’ll be up there.” He nodded towards the sky.
“Congratulations!” Uhura wrapped her arms around the German who hugged her back.
“Thanks, Nyota.”
Scotty exchanged a curious glance with Leonard who just smiled at him. They were obviously both thinking the same thing.
And even though Scotty was happy for Uhura, he couldn’t help but feel worry for her too. After all, Florian was going to leave the planet quite soon probably. What would that mean to her?
“Now, how can I help you? Or is everything ready?”
The new dentist was alright, but the new hygienist? Plus, she didn’t talk and ask questions while cleaning my teeth. Minus, seemed a bit rough on the cleaning
Little is back home last night, super super big feelings due to tiredness, understandable, haven’t heard much about what rides she did actually go on (bit pissed it doesn’t appear she went on her favorite ride from last time at all and instead got a bit co-opted into a new fave via the in-laws)
MiL appears to be in one piece, but very bruised, still haven’t heard very much more of that story
Nothing like going to my six month anxiety check up while currently super stressing 😝
First, I’m walking into the dentist in ten minutes. I’ve been going to the same dentist since I was 10. Between my last cleaning and this one, he passed his practice to a new guy and retired. Which, I mean, good for him. But cmon! And everyone else is new too except maybe one gal. My parents have seen the new guy and said he’s alright. But the receptionist I always chat with is gone. Hopefully the one good hygienist is still here 🤞
Second, hoo boy. This is a biggie. My in-laws took little to Disneyland on Saturday. They come back Wednesday. So of course I’m stressing on that, my kid being two states away from me. Then, we find out yesterday when hubs checks in, that mother in law tipped on her scooter at a curb cut and ended up over at the nearby ER 😬 So late afternoon father in law and little got over to the park, but haven’t heard an update yet today on how MIL is doing
Yay anxiety check up! My meds are obviously working cause otherwise I’d be a nervous fucking wreck and I’m not, still stressed though

Tuesday afternoon found McCoy leaving his last class and heading toward another of Jim’s party planning meetings. Jim’s senior cadet friend had told them about parties he had helped with and had promised to join them today.
McCoy supposed he was looking forward to throwing the party, but at the moment it seemed like an incredible amount of work on top of the schoolwork and preparing for end of year exams. He sighed. They were doing the right thing and it would benefit so many other cadets.
He found the room Jim had reserved- the same as the previous Thursday- and threw a look around to see who was already there. Jim was showing something to Florian on his PADD. Spock and Sulu sat nearby. McCoy nodded his head in greeting at them as he picked a chair and sat. Uhura came in behind him.
McCoy rested his PADD on his knee and began to look through his homework. It didn’t seem as if Jim was going to start until they were all there, so he might as well use the time.
“Hello love.”
McCoy startled and looked up. He smiled at his husband and Aporal sitting down beside him.
“Hey darlin’,” he smiled back. “Hey Aporal.”
“You should be more aware of your surroundings, Prince. You always jump,” Aporal said and raised an eyebrow.
“Maybe that’s just to lull you in,” McCoy grinned.
“Prince?” Over by Jim, Florian gave McCoy a confused look. Suddenly his expression cleared. “That’s why you’re familiar,” he said. “You’re that prince from Georgiares.”
McCoy chuckled. “Yep.”
“I should have realized sooner.” Florian appeared to color. “My little sister had posters of you.” He covered his face with a hand. “She still might.” Florian let out a small laugh.
McCoy laughed with him. “I haven’t heard that before,” he said. “I didn’t know posters of me existed. Though I guess that makes sense.”
“Where can I get one?” Scotty joked. The others in the room laughed.
“What is Montgomery Scotty getting?” Jaylah asked quietly to Aporal. She had just walked in with Keenser.
“Don’t ask,” Aporal shook his head.
“If anyone should have a poster made of themselves it should be me,” said Jim. “As Starfleet’s future greatest captain.” He grinned at everyone in the room.
“Ignore him,” Sulu said to Florian. “He forgets that Starfleet’s best captain could still be me or Cora.”
Jim threw a hand to his chest in mock outrage. “So mutinous! I promise they’re normally a very well behaved crew,” he told Florian.
Groans and laughs came from the others. Florian just smiled.
“You guys are going to throw a great party, you’re a lot of fun.”
Part 756
Scotty
They talked for quite a while about various ideas and divided up a few tasks before it was time for dinner. Everyone headed to the dining hall together.
Scotty walked beside Florian.
“It’s really cool that ye’re helping us, but don’t ye think this might be a bit too much? I mean… with your final exams coming up?” asked the Scotsman, and Florian waved his hand dismissively.
“Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m already done with most of my exams anyway.”
“And what are your plans for the future? Which division did you choose?” asked Leonard, who was walking next to Scotty.
“Command. I’m going to be a pilot,” Florian explained with a proud grin.
“It must be really exciting to be a senior. Ye’re so close to finally seeing yer dream come true.”
“I’m really looking forward to finally working aboard a ship, but I admit I’m also going to miss the academy a lot. Out there‘s where the real challenges of life begin.” Florian pointed toward the sky. “So I can only advise you to enjoy your semesters here at the academy as much as you can. And make the most of every campus party.”
“We’ll definitely do that,” Leonard laughed.
“Aye,” Scotty agreed with a smile.
After dinner, the boys got down to their homework, but Scotty couldn’t really concentrate. He kept stopping to write and stared thoughtfully at his PADD.
Leonard noticed.
“What’s up, leannan?”
Scotty just shook his head.
“Oh, nothing really. It’s just… I’ve been thinking about what Florian said earlier.”
Leonard set aside the book he’d been reading.
“What do you mean?” He smirked. “Do you really want a poster of me that badly? Then I’d be happy to pose for you.”
Scotty laughed.
“Oh, come on! It’s not about the poster.”
The Scotsman grew more serious.
“Nay, I mean the serious side of life, the real challenges. When we started here at the academy, I thought it was just a phase in life that I wanted to get through as quickly as possible so I could finally fly to space. But… it’s such an important time. These are the last few years we don’t quite have to be adults yet. We have a lot of free time and can enjoy life.”
Leonard took his husband’s hand and squeezed it tightly.
“And that’s exactly what we’ll do! We’ll savor every moment of our time here. And when the time finally comes for us to serve on a ship, something new and wonderful will begin. Every stage of our lives is important. And as long as we walk these paths together, they’re precious moments, too.”

Currently watching: At this very moment, nothing. The last thing I picked to watch was Bob’s Burgers. The last thing I watched by myself was Star Trek (tos & Lower Decks)
Current obsession: Jigsaw puzzles? Been doing quite a few up at my mom’s cause that’s where there’s enough space to do the big ones
Currently reading: 🤦🏻♀️ so many half read books. Though I have finished up four of them recently. Working through the rest of Deep Domain (it’s a Star Trek book I picked up when my local used bookstore went out of business. I was intrigued by the idea of Spock and Chekov being stuck together. I thought there’d be more banter, oh well)

“I don’t think there’s much else we can do at the moment, until Scotty hears from Cmdr. Raleigh,” Uhura said, looking around the group.
McCoy was glad to hear her say it. The rest of the group had been in the room much longer than he had, but he was beginning to get hungry and wanted to go to dinner.
“So, let's adjourn for now?” Sulu asked.
McCoy glanced over at Jim. He was jotting something down on the PADD in front of him. “But what about—”
“I think we’re planned out Captain,” Aporal said firmly.
“For now anyway,” Chekov murmured in agreement.
“When Scotty hears from the commander then we can do this again, and you can bring your new senior cadet friend to help,” Christine said.
“Besides, some of us are hungry,” Sulu said, clapping his hand on Jim’s shoulder. “I’ve been listening to your stomach rumbling for the last thirty minutes.”
“Hey! No it hasn’t!” Jim laughed.
“Twenty seven minutes actually,” Spock said dryly on Jim’s other side. The rest of the friends laughed at that.
“Ok, ok,” Jim grinned and pushed back from the table. “I suppose we have done good work. I just hope we hear something soon.”
“We will,” Uhura said.
Everyone began to gather their things and stand up.
“Suppose we’ll see you all soon,” McCoy said. He didn’t know about the others, but he wanted to go to their dorm room and drop off his books and PADD.
“How did your talk go?” Scotty asked as they entered their room.
“Good,” McCoy said. He crossed to his desk. “We talked about how to move forward now that I passed my exam.”
“And?”
“And I’ll still see Dr. Cuthbert, but we’ll do every other week. Now that I’ve passed flight I’ll have to keep up my qualifications.” A small shiver went down McCoy’s spine.
“Ah, and Flores will make sure ye do,” Scotty nodded.
“So I’ll still need some help. And we’ve just gotten me to be somewhat comfortable in a shuttle, we haven’t really solved what’s wrong in here.” McCoy gestured to the side of his head.
“Hey!” Scotty protested. “Nothing’s wrong in there!”
“Isn’t there?” McCoy grinned at his husband and made him laugh.
“Ye ken what I mean,” Scotty said.
“I know,” McCoy said. He stepped closer to Scotty and his husband’s arms went around him.
“And I’ll give ye any help ye need,” Scotty said softly before their mouths met in a soft kiss.
“I may need some help after dinner,” McCoy smirked. He pulled Scotty’s body closer to his own.
Scotty shook his head gently. “Incorrigible love, incorrigible.”
Part 754
Scotty
On the next Monday, after classes, while doing his homework, Scotty eventually received a message from Raleigh. A glance at his PADD told him what it said.
“We have the commanders‘ go,“ he told Leonard, a happy smile forming on his face.
“Really? Oh, that’s awesome, leannan. Just wait until Jim hears the good news,“ Leonard replied with a grin. the prince replied, grin spreading from ear to ear.
Scotty rolled his eyes.
“Ha! Ye ken Jim. He’ll tell us he knew it right away.”
“True.” Leonard nodded, then leaned over to whisper the next words into his husband’s ear, as if anyone could hear them. “But I bet he’ll be quite relieved on the inside.”
Scotty laughed out loud.
“Aye, he’ll be. Think I should wait until dinner to tell the others or should I send a message to the group chat right away?”
Leonard mused for a moment, then smirked.
“Wait until dinner. After all, we all want to see Jim’s reaction.”
“Awesome!” Jim exclaimed once Scotty had revealed the news to everyone. However, he quickly relaxed and tried to play casual. “I mean… not like I’m surprised. After all, it’s a great project.”
The others just exchanged smirks and glances. Everyone knew just how happy Jim really was.
“So, that means we need to flesh out our plans now. Of course there’s still time, but we all know how fast it flies with exams and stuff like that,” Christine said.
“How about we plan a meeting tomorrow? We can discuss– oh, wait a minute,” Jim interrupted himself. His eyes were focused on a spot behind Scotty. “Florian! Hey! Hey, Flo!” Jim waved frantically.
Scotty turned around and saw a young redhead. The tall cadet looked over to them, then waved. He slowly walked over to their table.
“Hey Jim,” he greeted the blond. “And… hey everyone else.”
“Guys! This is the senior I told you about! He’s gonna help us with our party plans!”
“I’m Florian Meyer. Nice to meet you. Jim told me about your idea. Sounds pretty cool,” the redhead introduced himself.
“Florian Meyer…” Uhura sounded thoughtful. “That isn’t a very common name around here. Are you from Germany?”
Florian smiled and nodded.
“Sure am. But my aunt lives in San Francisco. I’ve been a fan of Starfleet since I was a little boy and when I was old enough, I moved in with her.”
“Es ist wirklich nett von dir, dass du uns hilfst.”
Scotty looked at Nyota in surprise. Of course he knew that she was very talented with languages, but he hadn’t known that German was one of them.
“Ach, das mache ich doch gerne.”
Eugene raised his hand.
“Sorry to interrupt you, but not everyone at this table understands German?”
Florian chuckled.
“Sorry, bro. I just said that it’s my pleasure to help you.”
“How about you have dinner with us and we can tell you a few details,” Jim offered and the senior cadet shrugged.
“Sure. If you don’t mind.”
“Not at all,” Leonard said and made space so that the German could sit down next to him.
“Thanks.” As soon as Florian sat, he looked closer at Leonard and frowned. “Wait… do I know you? You seem familiar.”
Leonard just looked at the others before he turned his gaze back on the man next to him.
“Nope. I don’t think we’ve met before,” he returned and everyone suppressed chuckles. “I’m Leonard.”
Always super reassuring to come home from my mom’s with little to find two cop cars, two undercover cars and a whole mess of cops and sheriffs standing in front of our building
Apparently I don’t need to be concerned
But I also parked like crud because of them and I still don’t know what they’re doing
I think they were kinda rallying in front of our building before they went further up the street
McCoy tapped a message out on his comm and a tinge of guilt went through him. He could have said something at breakfast or lunch but had stayed silent. He sent the message, then turned off his comm, knowing Jim would send him multiple replies. He didn’t need his comm buzzing during his appointment with Dr. Cuthbert. He would be a bit late to Jim’s party planning meeting, but some of the others had longer Thursday classes as well. Jim could cut him some slack.
Of course McCoy could have said something earlier, Jim would probably have moved the meeting time back, but he just didn’t want to. A few friends knew about his counseling sessions; it really wasn’t a big deal to seek help, they had all known when he and Scotty saw Dr. Hudson. But for whatever reason deep inside himself, he wanted to keep these appointments more private.
Scotty would understand his comm being off. He knew where the prince was. And McCoy would turn it back on as soon as he was in the waiting room again.
“Leonard?”
McCoy stood up and slipped the comm into his pocket.
“Hello,” he greeted the psychologist, before following him down the hall to his office.
“I suppose you’re wondering if we need to keep meeting,” Dr. Cuthbert said when they were settled in his office.
McCoy blinked in surprise. He hadn’t actually had that thought, but now he wondered.
“No sir,” McCoy said honestly. “I hadn’t thought that until now.”
“You passed your flight test last week,” Dr. Cuthbert smiled at him.
“Yes,” McCoy agreed slowly. He wondered where the doctor was going with this.
“Do you feel as if we’ve completed what we needed?”
McCoy sat back in his chair and frowned as he thought.
“Yes and no,” he said, the words very deliberate. “We’ve helped me pass a test, but we haven’t completely solved my issues with flying.”
“Very good Leonard,” Dr. Cuthbert nodded. “How would you like to move forward?”
“Oh.” McCoy’s thoughts flew. How did one know when they no longer needed help in a situation like this? Their sessions with Dr. Hudson had ended because they had graduated.
“I- I don’t know what we’re supposed to do,” he replied, letting his confusion into his voice. “What do you suggest?”
“Not knowing what classes you will have next year doesn’t help much yet, however, especially with Lt. Flores as your advisor, I think we can be certain that he will keep you up to date on flying qualifications.”
“Which means who knows when I may have to fly at any given time,” McCoy grumbled.
“I would recommend we continue to meet—”
McCoy nodded.
“—though perhaps we could move to every other week. We can continue to work on strategies and work at the cause of your issue with flying. What do you think?”
“I think that would probably be for the best,” McCoy agreed.
“Though we could meet more frequently if it was needed of course.”
McCoy nodded again. “That sounds good.”
McCoy did not expect Scotty to meet him after his session; he had already messaged his husband that he would meet him at Jim’s meeting. With a sigh, McCoy pulled out his comm and turned it back on. It buzzed many times as messages he hadn’t seen came through, most from Jim. McCoy smiled and hurried out the door to go join his friends.
Part 752
Scotty
“I can’t believe Bones just leaves us hanging like that,” Jim complained as he and Scotty left the lecture hall together after their last class together.
Scotty rolled his eyes. He knew exactly where his husband was and that he was in fact not leaving them hanging. It was Thursday. He was meeting up with Dr. Cuthbert. And the Scotsman was really curious about what they were talking about after Leonard had successfully passed his flight test.
“Oh, come on, Jimbo, ye know it’s not like that! He’s going to join us as soon as he can.”
“What in the world could be more important than this meeting? I know when his last class ends! He could come right away!”
“Aye, well, I can name several things that are more important than this meeting,” Scotty started, but stopped when Jim sent him a glare. He sighed before he continued. “Look, I know that it’s important to ye, but trust me when I say that Len has a good reason.”
“One you’re not going to tell me about,” Jim concluded and Scotty nodded.
“I can’t. It’s private. And I would appreciate it if ye don’t push.”
“Tch, fine. I won’t. But I really hope that Bones won’t take too long,” Jim groaned and Scotty placed a hand on his shoulder and patted it.
“I promise ye that he’ll be there as soon as he can.”
“So, I have good news. I met a cadet who’s a senior. And he said that he’ll help us with our plan. He actually was part of a committee in his first year at the academy and they too planned a campus wide party. And, according to his stories, it was pretty neat.”
“Where did you of all people meet a senior cadet?” Nyota asked, raising an eyebrow curiously.
“I have my contacts,” Jim answered, sounding mysterious.
“He applied for the chess club,” Spock said at the same time.
“Yeah, okay, fine, I applied for the chess club. Anyhow, this guy is pretty cool. And he gave me some tips that I want to discuss with y’all today.”
“Sounds good. Tell us more about it,” Chekov said and Jim started to explain his ideas.
“Bones! Finally! I thought you’d never join us,” Jim exclaimed when there was a knock at the door and Leonard stepped into the room.
“Sorry, sorry, took me a bit longer. Scotty can fill me in on the details later, right?” The prince made his way over to the free seat next to his husband and sat down.
“I suppose he can, yeah. Now, where were we?”
“We were discussing food and drinks,” Christine reminded Jim who quickly got back into talking.
Scotty sent Leonard a questioning look, silently asking if everything went well, and Leonard smiled at him. He nodded slightly and bumped his knee against Scotty’s.
The Scotsman smiled too. He would ask Leonard about everything later. For now, he was just happy that the session had gone well.
