Break my Baby

Failure after failure weighs heavy on Steve, tearing him up inside till he's ready to scream. He fights so goddamn hard and yet nothing he does is right; he fails a mission, he fails to protect Sam, fails to find Bucky, fails to do what he knows he needs to and he's so angry he could fight a platoon of HYDRA and not break a sweat. Knotted up and all wrong, what he needs is something he can't afford to do; break down.

Good thing Tony knows exactly how to give him what he needs.

Bound to You

Dom withdrawal is a real and serious thing, with dangerous and unpleasant side effects.

Good thing that’s not what’s wrong with Tony.

It's been a year, and Bucky thought he would feel a little better by now. But the anxiety and insomnia just keep getting worse, and he doesn't know how much longer he can deal with this level of PTSD.

Except, that's not the problem.

Letters from the Void Redux

Tony,

I’m surprised you ever gave me the chance to know you after the things I said when we met. But when I saw you fly that nuke into the sky, knowing it was a one way trip, I knew then how wrong I was. You didn’t just lie down on the wire, you threw yourself headlong into the fray, knowing it would mean your death, because it was the right thing to do.

You’ve been on that wire for years Tony, protecting humanity, saving lives, doing good. You’re a better man than I ever gave you credit for, a better man than me because you were always a friend when I needed you.

I understand if you never want to see me again after all the ways I’ve let you down, I’ll understand. I’ll go away Tony, I’ll give you whatever you want, because you’re everything to me, and I owe you that.

Steve

Tony folds the letter carefully and tucks it into his pocket, stares out the window at the stars, and proceeds to get blind drunk.

There have been many moments in Sam Wilson’s life that have taken his breath away and broken his heart; when Riley had been shot down, when his parents had died, when he had turned to ash, alone and scared.

But none have hit him as hard as watching Walker kick Joaquín in the chest and send him flying across the room and into a pillar with a sick crunching sound.

Razorblade Without a Handle

Bucky is just some 22 year old former high school dropout working too many jobs to pay for his shitty apartment and his sister's tuition, so when he meets Steve Rogers and Tony Stark and they take an interest in him, it makes no sense.

Destiny looks a lot like Captain America when it walks through his door, and even at ten, Tony knows that Steve is something wonderful. He's a protector, a friend, someone to turn to when his father is angry and his mother is lost in a haze of pills, someone who loves Tony unconditionally and would do anything for him.

When he's 15 that faith is put to the test by a car crash, and then, something worse.

What begins as a friendship blossoms into something deeper, something nuanced--a bond, unshakeable.

Unbreakable

Rhodey sheds his suit too and crawls under the covers, settling on his back so Tony can curl up against his side, Steve still at his back, large and warm and comforting. He’s so exhausted, down to his very bones, aching with it, but he lays there, unable to sleep and growing more anxious with every minute that passes till finally Steve starts to purr against his back and nuzzles into the nape of his neck while Rhodey holds his hand and purrs too, softer than Steve, but no less comforting.

The scent of his alpha and of his Rhodey fill the air around him, mixing and blending and settling deep into Tony’s chest with a sense of rightness that makes him purr weakly, too tired for more, too tired to contemplate why.

Tony’s chest hitches with a broken sob and he takes the older man’s hand firmly, smiling at him through tears, “Thank you for saving me,” he whispers earnestly, feeling the fine tremors wracking Yisnen’s body in the thin hand held between his. His scent is saturated in blood and pain and it makes Tony want to gag, but he swallows it down and clings to Yinsen’s hand tightly, tears beginning to blur his vision as he smiles faintly at Tony.

“Don't waste it,” Yinsen admonishes, light fading slowly from his eyes, “Don't waste your life,” he gasps and then, just like that, he’s gone.

Tony bows his head for a moment, holding the hand of the man who gave him a second chance at life and says a prayer to the man’s god that he’ll be happy wherever he is now.

The sound of men shouting draws him out of his reverie and to his feet, iron filling his spine and icy rage surges in his veins as he casts one last look at Yinsen before turning and lowering the face plate. He strides out and stands firm when the men assembled fire on him, bullets thundering into the armor like hail against a tin roof.

When their clips run empty he grits his teeth and smiles bitterly.
