I'm sorry but I'll just never get over it. I remember when companies cared about their products being usable out of the box. I remember when our things belonged to us.

Okay I know it might sound stupid, but I just finished reading the complete scripts of S4 and I still feel like… he didn't actually expect her to remove Soteria?

Like, throughout the whole time, he never even mentioned it and said nothing about escaping the lab with her…

It was El who was "confused" and assumed he would with her, and when she actually asked him about it, the script reads: "He hesitates. He has to break it to her"

It feels more like… he was just explaining to her the reason he couldn't go with her - they'd find him and so they'd find her. (It feels like his words are still centered on El's safety?)

And up until that point, he still hadn't suggested removing the chip… even though he had every reason to, and El wouldn't have been suspicious?

And more importantly, when El offered to help him, the script says: "He looks at Eleven, surprised"

Then when she said, "you help me, and I help you", we can even see he was actually "moved by this"…

…I'm confused, because on the wiki and in a lot of Reddit posts, the general consensus seems to be that Henry was manipulating El the entire time - some ppl even suggest he manipulated the other kids into bullying her, etc.

I think the part where he said Papa is going to let the others kill El was indeed, a lie? As, I don't think Brenner would just waste an experiment like that… But maybe he only made that up to urge her to escape this place?

And that leads to another question: what's Brenner's role in all of this? As, how did the other numbers have the chance to leave their rooms and bully El? I've seen some ppl speculate that it was Henry behind everything - opening doors, turning off cameras, and so on - but… well, did he really have that level of control? When El was being bullied in the Rainbow Room, Henry was literally being electrocuted by Brenner, which would mean he had no opportunity to carry out that kind of scheme?

And about him being a manipulative sociopath or not, here's another detail: when Two got punished, Henry was "disturbed":

Why would he be disturbed when no one was watching him and there was NO need to act at that moment? (Brenner was punishing Two at that moment and the other kids were watching the horrible scene)

Which makes me wonder even more about his overall attitude towards these kids… As in the VR game, Brenner said the other children "have gone quite fond of" him, and Henry replied, "well, I'm one of them after all". He also said things like, "I could teach them so much, if you let me", and "I get what it's like to be them, you don't."

Of course, aside from reading this as sympathy, his reaction to Two's punishment could also be understood as some sort of trauma response - seeing a child go through something similar to what he himself just experienced.

Btw one last interesting detail, when El decides to go out instead of waiting, she was actually trying to help Henry.
