I researched about the artist, Howardena Pindell, an mix-media artist and painter, based in the United States of America. She is known for using different materials and mediums in her pieces, such as glitter, hole punched paper circles, and even perfume. While Pindell is an artist, she also is an activist fighting against racism, exploitation, homelessness and many other social injustices. Many of her pieces, reflected her beliefs and what she advocated for, and resembled those themes.

“Lofi beats to draw to during the pandemic”
During this pandemic I’ve spent alot more time at my desk. Between classes and assignments this gave me more chances to draw. now I did little doodles and sketches on paper, but I churned out more digital art as well. Â
My reverse painting is capturing this, and a homage to the “lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to” stream on YouTube. The sketch was digital (of course it was), which I made on a video call with some artist buddies.  I left the window in my room transparent . so I could put something in the background later if I wanted. I tried my hand at cel shading but it did not come out as I expected. I used fewer shades and more sparingly. The acrylic colors didn’t quite come out the way I expected them to.
Overall I’ll probably do more reverse painting in the future, and heck I might just make my own frame.
Great Job! I really like how the details came out and how you added a figure being drawn within the laptop screen.

I had watched a short video on the the artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres this week, and I thought he would be an interesting artist to share. Felix Gonzalez-Torres is originally from Cuba, but immigrated to the United States. He is an American Visual artist, who had constructed a popular piece called the Untitled, this piece was constructed as a tribute to his partner who had died from AIDs. The piece was 175 pounds, the same weight as his partner, and was made up of entirely candy pieces. Visitors are encouraged to take a piece of candy from his exhibit when leaving. The depletion in the amount of candy is meant to represent, how as the body piece by piece withers away, until there is nothing left.

This is my reverse plexi glasss painting I kinda went impressionist/ simplistic because it’s suppose to encapsulate quarantine for me between sitting around bored to missing the outside world to frustration these three faces shows all of that. And ofcourse the infamous phrase “Bored in the house and I’m in the house bored” was definitely a staple for quarantine life!
This looks amazing! Love how you added the “bored in the house” phrase, really reminiscent of the early pandemic TikToks.

Plexiglass Painting
This is my plexiglass painting, I found the painting a little difficult to do. I felt as if the paint kept sliding around around.
I decided to paint a mask stuck on a cart wheel(as they often do) and mask wrapped around a birds foot. My idea behind the painting was based on, the growing number of littered masks. With the mask mandate, many store parking lots are littered with worn masks, that often get caught on cart wheels and stuck on birds and other wildlife. While save the turtles, was a great movement, we should do better and not litter our worn masks.Â
Transparent Paint
This is my transparent painting, where three colors look like four, or in this case five.
Props used for the detailing. Used some vegetable ends, bottle cap, pen etc. for different sizes and shapes. Enjoyed doing this exercise
This is amazing, it looks beautiful! I love how you used the different props to add in the details!Â

This week I research the artist, Wassily Kandinsky, an artist we learned about last class. Wassily Kandinsky, is an artist from Russia, who is deemed as one of the founders of abstract paintings. He is widely known for his lyrical and abstract style. He is also known for drawing connections between art and music, which he portrays in “ Composition VI “.

This is my discordant painting. I have included three pairs of discordant colors. (Pink and blue, yellow and orange, purple and green)
Discord colors
For the first pair of discord colors I wanted to do blue and red. But when I checked if they were the same tone or saturation it didn’t match so I added a bit of the blue to make it a bit darker and it turned into violet so I stuck with violet. As long as they both had the same tonal value was all that mattered to me. Then the second pair of discord colors are purple and orange. Again those weren’t the colors I wanted to work with, but I was happy with the end result.Â
I like how perfect the tones are. The pink-purple in the third picture is really pretty.
Warm and cool colors collage painting
This came out amazing!
Abstract Paper Collage
Above are some compositions of shapes that I have created. I didn’t really know what I was really supposed to be doing so I just let my mind go wild and started to place shapes all around and see if something would be created out of it. Then I realized that I would most likely have to paint this so then I tried something more simple, which were the colorful squares.Â
These look amazing! I like the third and forth pictures!
Warm and Cool Colors Painting
Groot came out a little funky and it looks a little creepy. But I am happy with the end result.

This week I researched about an artist we learned in class this week, Tomma Abts. Tomma Abts, is an artist from Germany, who is very well known for her abstract oil paintings. She is a well-known artist who had also worn a turner prize in 2006 for her paintings. She is known for using no source materials, and painting in a unique way, where her pieces may be representing a message or idea. Two of her popular pieces are, Isko and Teite, which were names after two german names.
