Hey There, this is my sketchbook

I think it turned out great! Unfortunately it’s incomplete. After I drew the characters with marker I decided that I wanted to revamp the stay at home part so I’m going to add that later. In total the characters took me about 7 hours to paint. I found out very quickly that painting normally wouldn’t work because the paints weren’t fully opaque. So I put down a base layer and added an extremely thick layer on top of that after it dried. I had a lot of the black paint that we made from the first project left over (although I did add actual black paint into it to make it darker). I wanted to keep the color scheme of the collage but I also wanted to add that red highlight that they main characters have to the other ones as well. I also had to problem solve the shadows because they are very choppy and it was hard for me to get a smooth curved line. Overall this is my favorite method of painting so far and I will definitely be making more art works with it in my free time! I’ll post a pic over a white background to show the end result better.

Okay, so for my final project I decided to portray what consumed most of my time during quarantine which was watching anime and constantly reminding myself of the stay at home warnings. I made a collage with some of my favorite anime characters from shows that I watched over quarantine and a stay at home warning. This is all my process work and my final reveal and details will be in my next post 😊

I chose to use orange and blue as my color combination. At first, when I tested my mixed colors they matched really well but when I put them down on the painting, they didn’t match as closely. I chose to darken my orange and that made a big difference with a few coats to make it more opaque. This was an interesting assignment to say the least and I also ran out of painters tape so I tried to make my lines as straight as possible 😂 I had fun doing this

COLORS HAVE BEEN MIXED

These are my collage options. I think I’m leaning toward the one that looks like an ice cream or the last one because the shapes fit well together unexpectedly.

This is the progression of my astral princess lol. She was I spired by pop art. I really think the colorful, non traditional style of pop are is unique and I wanted to channel that style in my painting. I did a lot of mixing to get different shades of purple that I used for both the top and bottom background features and I mixed different blues to get the tones for the face and neck. Her hair is a mid yellow and I tried to use a muted green for some definition. The moons are just the two reds we are given. I wish I could’ve made them more opaque but I think after it dries I could apply more coats of it. And lastly, I used white to create the highlight details in her face. I think this is my best and favorite painting this semester and I’m so proud of it!
