I've said this before but Why do people position "themes and analysis" and "shipping" as mutually exclusive opposites. maybe I find two characters thematically interesting and want them to analytically fuck about it.
now dance fucker dance man he never had a chance
autism is not a horrible disease that ruins lives and tears apart families. elon musk, who is autistic and an evil billionaire who doesn't pay taxes, has ruined thousands of lives, and whose family hates him, is a statistical outlier adn should not have been counted

man the crazy thing about babies is that like, some people would think that reading a baby a book about farm animals is teaching them about farm animals, but really it’s teaching them about the concept of a book and how there’s new information on each page of a single object, but really, beyond that, it’s teaching them how language works, and beyond that it’s really actually teaching them about human interaction, and really really it’s them learning about existing in a three-dimensional space and how they can navigate that space, but actually, above all it is teaching them that mama loves them.
"i don't comment on ao3 because i don't wanna be annoying or weird" skill issue + you greatly underestimate the power dynamic here, writing multi paragraph comments is like feeding a bunch of deeply insane and possibly starved ducks at the park and watch them go completely mad over having received a piece of bread

I thinks it's so funny whenever I'm reading a jayvik fanfic and whenever they're in the lab they're "solving equations". Like what are the girls solving.
I'm tempted to put my EE and CPE degree to use and write my own fics that's literally just a realistic day in the life of an engineer.
The lab always smelled faintly of ozone and singed copper.
It was Viktor’s favorite smell. A promise of progress — or at least, interesting failure.
Across the room, Jayce was half-sitting, half-slouching in a chair that had lost a wheel sometime last month. He had one foot braced against a steel table leg for balance as he hunched over a hexgate prototype, magnification lens clipped to his glasses. His sleeves were rolled up, a soldering iron twitching between his fingers like a nervous tic.
"You’re going to bridge those pads if you’re not careful," Viktor said without looking up from his own station. He was debugging the power management subsystem for the seventh time in two days, because the hex-crystal interface kept generating unpredictable voltage spikes.
Jayce grunted. "Bridging builds character."
"And shorts the supply rail," Viktor replied dryly. "Again."
Jayce leaned back just long enough to toss the iron into its cradle and scowl. "If you'd finished the isolation circuit yesterday, I wouldn’t have to be hand-soldering a hundred-micron pitch connector at midnight."
"I did finish it," Viktor said, flipping a page of schematics with a sharp motion. "You simply neglected to install the proper capacitive damping."
Jayce mimicked him under his breath. 'Capacitive damping' — as if Viktor didn’t just invent new electrical terms when it suited him.
Still, he dragged a finger across the datasheet and double-checked the pad assignments. It wasn’t like he wanted another repeat of Monday, when the entire prototype board spontaneously arced and left a neat black scorch mark in the table — shaped, ironically, exactly like his signature.
In fairness, they were attempting something no one had ever done: physically linking an active crystalline matrix (the hexcore) to conventional electrical systems.
It didn’t obey ordinary field equations. Charge separation and conduction behaved... differently. At least when it wasn't just exploding.
Viktor leaned closer to his own monitor, tapping a waveform analyzer rhythmically with a pen.
"The charge accumulation rates are still asymmetrical," he muttered. "There’s a hysteresis curve forming in the gate threshold voltage. Look — here —"
Jayce shoved his chair over with a squeal of metal on concrete. He peered over Viktor’s shoulder, blinking blearily at the graph.
"Holy hell," Jayce said, tone almost admiring. "That’s worse than my last attempt at a bandgap reference."
"You tried to build a bandgap reference?" Viktor asked, turning.
Jayce shrugged. "Once. It caught fire."
Viktor gave a small nod, like this was deeply unsurprising.
"It’s unstable," Viktor continued, pointing to the curve. "Every time the crystal tries to align its internal energy wells to the applied gate bias, it overshoots. Then collapses. Then overshoots again. We’re getting oscillation, but not in any frequency domain we can model."
Jayce rubbed a hand over his face. His fingers came away smudged with solder paste. "Okay. So what you're saying is: normal semiconductor physics just gave up."
"Correct," Viktor said with grim satisfaction. "We must define new boundary conditions."
Jayce made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a groan.
"New boundary conditions. Great. That’s easy. I'll just... pop open the Standard Model and scribble some notes in the margins."
"You do that," Viktor said, utterly serious. "I will get coffee."

Do y'all ever read a fic so good that it makes you want to elevate your own craft and also befriend the writer? It's almost like, "Hi! You write so well that you've inspired me to embark on a creative training arc. Also, can I yell about the character in your dms because you get it?"
The problem w writing fiction is that you'll be like tee-hee I'm going to write a story about a fucked up little scenario that's got nothing to do with anything in real life, just some pure messed up nonsense, and then you finish it and take a step back and go aw rats I made a metaphor again
The two parter “king uther fucks a troll” episode of Merlin is truly such a fine piece of absurdist television. Morgana is already “evil” at this point. Merlin and morgana both hate uther. Uther is a really dark character for the rest of the show. The amount of vision is takes to have him be under a spell where he’s like “I LOVE this troll! She is beautiful! Stop being mean to her” while every other character is united for once being like “please please stop fucking the troll! She doesn’t like you! She’s tricking you!”
"platonic prongsfoot" "romantic prongsfoot" can we just agree that they're freaks in a league of their own

I want to send this to my partner but he’s never seen Merlin and he just WON’t get it 🤣
After Camlaan Arthur is back to Camelot, but not quite...
Or, Arthur from the future is trying to make everything right this time with some help (probably from the Triple Goddess and later from Merlin) and pretending to be oblivious to Merlin's magic and protecting him
(to be continued...)
