For all that the 1800s etiquette guides are--obviously--derangedly sexist from a modern perspective? They're also mindblowing in how casually they will assert things that MODERN DAY CONSERVATIVES would scream and cry and shit their pants about.
"People back then always married young it's natural!!!" Every single 1800s guide I've ever met casually mentions that, of course, you really shouldn't get married before you're at least 20, and waiting until 25 is usually better.
Or, like. Okay here's a long segment:
Just firmly going "it is crazy sexist to blame The Wife for overspending when thirty seconds of asking questions will immediately establish that her husband was outright lying to her about how much money they had. Talk to your wife like a normal person."
Or--okay, here. A section on being honest and not writing love letters in secret, because that's usually a good sign that there's something untoward going on....
....except that he then immediately acknowledges that sometimes, the reason you're hiding this from your parents is that your parents suck. That there are parents who frankly have not earned the right to approve or disapprove of your partner.
(I realize the phrasing there sounds a lot less strong than my summary, but--trust me on this. When you're familiar with the narrative voice of these kinds of books, this passage is downright radical. The mere acknowledgement that if you treat your kids badly, it's your own damn fault when they don't talk to you? I've genuinely never seen that before in this genre. Don't freak out over "properly trained", either. It's just a linguistic shift--at the time, "training" was used the way we would say "raising" a child today. )

Get a fucking WEBSITE. It can be just a static landing page with the relevant information. But get off the metaverse!

Languages tend to peak at their word for butterfly. Never seen 2 that are the same, either. Papillon. Mariposa. Borboleta. Fluture. Vlinder. Schmetterling. Pillangó. Babochka. Farfalla. Sommerfugl. Perhonen. Farasha. Titali. Chōchō. Nabi. Húdié. Buom buom. Great job guys, i really mean it.
I have a feeling that the Welsh language may be the winner here, because we have several words for "butterfly", and they're all equally fantastic:
pili-pala, pilipala
iâr fach yr haf ("small summer chicken")
glöyn byw ("living coal")
plufyn bach yr haf ("little summer feather")
colomen fyw ("living dove")
eilir ("spring")
glöyn Duw ("God's coal")

For all my fellow oversharers out there.
As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.
Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.
my number one advice for parents is to listen to your children tbh. and i dont just mean listening to their problems i mean like. when your kid recites the plot of a movie youve already seen or your tells you about what they did at school today or wants to show you their roblox gameplay. youve gotta be invested in knowing your kid as a person or why are you even doing the whole parenting thing.
the whole "insulting someone based on their appearance is bad because it could indirectly hurt people you like who share that feature" is a good start for unlearning body shaming but i do think we need to go further and remind people that even if there was some physical trait that was magically 10000% exclusive to conservatives and creeps and nobody else ever had it, we still shouldnt be insulting them based on that. because the problem with them is not their appearance its their ideology and actions. by insulting their appearance you arent just indirectly insulting others who look like that, youre literally not making the correct point. stay on topic ya know.

i love queerplatonic relationships where one of them is aroace and the other isn't. i love when the allo character has a crush that fades over time. i love when they don't care what they are to each other as long as they're together. i love when romance is an option that they don't choose. i love when both aros and allos feel fulfilled without romance or sex.
guys. Guys please you're allowed to say big boy words. please we cannot keep just rolling with the sanitization of every space on the internet ok. you're allowed to say suicide. you're allowed to say porn. they're not bad words, they're just words.
also by ''censoring'' the words with silly spellings you're actually making it much harder for people to filter out. please just say Sex you don't have to call it woohoo like it's the fucking sims. i promise the Word Police aren't going to arrest you
edward likes taking bella to the meadow because she gets eaten up by mosquitos who then become flying little snackies that edward doubles back for. edward leaps about the meadow snatching them up like a bass jumping from a lake
mae edward yn mwynhau mynd â bella i'r dôl oherwydd mae hi'n cael ei bwyta gan fosgitos sydd wedyn yn troi'n fyrbrydau bach hedfanol y mae edward yn dyblu'n ôl ar eu cyfer. mae edward yn prancio o gwmpas y dôl yn eu cipio megis draenogiad yn llamu o'r llyn
It would kill half the 19-25 year olds online to realize "I can't help it I have trauma" is one of THE quintessential abuser excuses
Like there is a difference between "My trauma creates impulsive urges and has changed my instinctive reactions to be irrational, I need to relearn shit." vs "I'm traumatized so I Can't Help It and you're not allowed to expect better of me"
from you, my friend, I ask just one thing ● shine your light in eventide ● companion till all hope has died ● until life and death will reunite - Eventide (Kamelot)

My headcanon for Merlin is that he'll randomly drop insane lore and refuse to elaborate. It never fails to freak people out. Even those who know about his magic
Some examples:
Merlin, after complaining about his duties as Arthur's manservant: Maybe I should just run away and become a hermit. My father lived in a cave for twenty years - how hard can it be?
Lancelot: Your father what now??
. . . . .
Merlin, on a hunt: I can't grow chest hair. Not since the incident (he means when Nimueh hit him in the chest with a fire ball)
Leon: Are you just- are you just not gonna elaborate????
. . . . .
Merlin: Thank God it's not hemlock. That stuff tastes awful
Gwen, about to have a heart attack: Hemlock?!
. . . . .
Merlin, after having an annoying day: I really wish that serket had finished me off.
Arthur: That's it! I'm never letting you out of my sight again!
When I was at the movie theatre they were advertising a romcom where the premise was that unmarried people are only legally allowed to have sex once a year and that one, that one made me put my head in my hands.
i was so baffled by the blasé way in which the trailer presents its utterly insane premise that i saw it play two separate times before i realised “the one night a year where single people can legally have sex” wasn’t just hyperbole about valentines day or something
