- I’m happy to announce my book Doris’s Dear Delinquents is being published by Clavis Publishing! Books will be available Fall 2021!
YES
Man my girls are going to love this. I can't wait!
I'm hoping someone has a recommendation for a pictus gecko breeder. I'd love to start a small project but can't find any for sale online. I know they tend to be sold at shows but that's not an option as I'm higher risk for COVID.
Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my Hamm-time gaaaaaal
You have the coolest geckos and have gotten me into some species I had no idea about. Thank you! :)

Itty Bitty new crestie committee. Left is Merigold, right is Yennifer. Produced by Crestopia reptiles and Emily Burke, respectively. I love them to bits and they are SO tiny.
what does a “hot” mean?
Hello and thank you for asking this!
The term “hot” refers to a venomous animal in the reptile hobby. We usually use it to identify dangerous reptiles, such as rattlesnakes, cobras, vipers, beaded lizards, etc. and we may also apply the term to spiders and scorpions with medically significant venom.
An emperor scorpion or hognose snake, for example, is technically venomous but would not usually be considered a “hot” because their venom is very mild and would at most result in relatively mild discomfort for most keepers.
By contrast, a bite from a copperhead or a sting from a fat-tailed scorpion would very likely result in hospitalization and could even be fatal if left untreated. These animals are both certainly “hots” and are deserving of the respect and care necessary to prevent an unfortunate incident.
Common consensus is that hots should probably not be kept by the general public, but this doesn’t stop hundreds of private hobbyists from seeking and purchasing highly venomous animals; most legally, some not so much. Pretty much all sellers will advise buyers that they will need appropriate licensing to keep venomous species, but ultimately the responsibility is on the purchaser to understand their local laws, to have a secure enclosure, and to be aware of proper handling and husbandry of venomous species.
I hope that this helps clarify and I’d like to emphasize that I am not passing judgement on anyone who does appropriately and legally keep venomous species.
So I totally misread beaded lizards as bearded dragon (mega super tired) and was wondering where you were hanging out that beardies were hot.
This is all super useful info though so sharing it.
There's a big difference between reptile "personalities" and people that know their shit. Don't fall into the trap of just wanting status or social media affirmation. The best advice I can give to anyone is to stay humble and seek out new information wherever you can find it. Make connections with people who have success - talk to them! Most serious people don't mind talking to someone who is smart and truly passionate, even if they are a beginner.
The truth is that real reptile hobby is totally off the grid. Most really good keepers get tired of the social media circus that's just focused on popularity, especially when the info that they share is wrong. When I picked up the turtles, the sellers and I talked and laughed for a good hour in the cold. We recounted experiences, shared in the love for these animal, and I got to ask so many questions. I learned more in that one hour than I could in a week on tumblr or Facebook (though both do have good resources in parts). I've asked for advice and had people call me and give me hours of their time without question. I've seen Troy's friends complain and swap animals and advise and set goals like comrades in arms. Let yourself into this world! Stay curious and you will open a door for yourself. It can only lead to self-betterment, which is really the goal of all keepers, or it should be...
I can't decide who I like more :( I love the red dalmation spots on 28 and I love how dark and large the dalmation spots are on 135. 28 is confirmed female, 135 is probable.
Who would you choose?
Oh my god old care standards are just. Horrific. I'm glad things have changed. Nothing like 2 pink tongue skinks, 2 chauhuas and 2 cresties in a 4 foot long tank.
From the lovely Rhacodactylus book my mom got me for Christmas.

This girl ❤
Well here is my (hopeful) orange/tangerine/pink crestie project. I got an absolute steal for both from AC reptiles auctions and I can’t wait to for them to get here. I’d like to get a confirmed female for this boy at the Baltimore Repticon coming up, an orange/red dalmation sort of lady.
I’m so excited because I got them for less than a third of what he had them for retail at.
My 41 qt Hognose rack is done! I have another one left to build and then install baker's shelving for geckos. It's starting to look really good except for the awful paint job by the old owner.
The rack is about 3 feet tall and is gonna be perfect as a work table too.
Hurricane - Jamaican boa (Chilabothrus subflavus)
Merry Christmas reptile room!
There is SO much work to do in here, but here’s a general overview. There will be a middle rack with 8 41 QT tubs. There will be another table height rack next to it, which will have the freezer on top. The long shelves will be my storage area but organized.
The corner with the big wide bookshelf holding the 41 QT tubs and the space heater are going to be ripped down and replaced with a 4x2 resturant shelving unit that will hold all of my geckos. They’ll be going into exo-terras with a mist king system.
The AP rack will be used for children’s pythons until they grow big enough for the 41 qts as it very securely fits 15 qt tubs. And where the fridge is is where I’ll put a small incubator for eggs.
