tentatively offering invites to my private art community discord server!
I'm still workin on the format and getting things set but I'd love to have a few folks who are interested join in so I can work out the kinks and start fleshing out the server. Please DM me on discord (sunfishexotics) if you would like to join! It has general chat / animal channels as well if you're not an artist but would still like to participate :>
I am not planning on making it public at this point so the only way to join is invite. Mainly to cut down on moderation work and keep everything cozy. Hope to see a few of you there!
Finally home and had a decent nights sleep! All the critters are doing well. I had to doctor the eggs a bit last night (couple small crinkles) but they look much better this morning and all candled fertile and healthy. My friend didn't know he wasn't supposed to separate them (my fault) so a few have some patches of thin shell but they should be just fine. 🥰
Melon was also out when I got home late last night and is just. So cute. I love this gargoyle.
Mid-range for his color here. He fires down white and yellow but fires up kinda a rusty red / yellow. Ketchup and mustard ass.

Eggs! I'm going to have a reptile friend come over to move them to the incubator for me since I'm traveling. They are from Snapdragon X Dahlia (Pituophis deppei jani)
I was invited to do a painting for the ARAV conference charity auction happening later this year and I just have. So many ideas bouncing around. Help me decide! I'm most likely going to do a 16x20" or 18x24" canvas. Watercolor and ink. I want to keep it to common pet species. Might do some sketching on the plane today. I have the painting penciled in for my June schedule so it should be done early July.
What should I paint for the ARAV auction?
Beardie & blue tongue skink with Australian plants
Ball python & African fat tailed gecko with African plants
Corn snake & green anole with southeast USA plants
Rosy boa & cali king with western USA plants
Rainbow boa & various dart frogs with Amazon plants
the photo of this painting doesn't do it justice, it was super sunny when I took the pic U_U
Anyway! A little 6x8" watercolor and india ink piece for a client on vgen!
Commission work, not for free use.
that lil badge is a big deal! after my trip I'm gonna be revamping and listing a lot of new commission types. it's been too long since I've done any real fancy OC artwork, really looking forward to drawing / painting your characters :3 For those unfamiliar, vgen limits the amount of commission services you can post to 5 until you get verified. I have so many styles and mediums I work in so this is going to be fun!
I'm getting all the critters prepped today. Dahlia still hasn't dropped her clutch so I need to have a back up plan if she hasn't laid by wednesday. Probably going to just put a solid lid on her nestbox and put her in the kitchen (which is where the cat stuff will be for the sitter) next to the egg tub so I can have a reptile keeper friend come over and just transfer the eggs over. The eggs will be totally fine at room temp, I just don't want them to dry out. I'll setup a camera so I can keep an eye on her along the way. I'm sure my cat sitter would really not like to deal with snake eggs lol.
REALLY hoping she lays before the trip but whoknows. Trying not to stress about it
link to my vgen since that's what this post is mainly about :>
I would really encourage any commission artist (especially those with ADHD or similar brain) to look into it, it's really helped me streamline my process and keep organized. I'm still going to (eventually) take commissions from a dedicated portfolio / personal website but I like having vgen as a base.
I've been doing pretty BAD at taking pics and talking about the reptiles and other critters lately. Everyone is doing good, i've just been a bit brain scrambly with the death in the family and my medication / health issues. Feeling much better now and looking to use this trip as a lil reset.

Finally got going on the 125g paludarium build for my emydura australis turtle, Dingo! With my shoulder being stupid I need help to get the big rock out, it weighs probably 60lbs and I do not trust myself to not smash the tank. Just trying to get a feel for the layout and the placement of the equipment today. I will reblog this post to make a thread of the progress as I go.
Got the big rock out, it was an ordeal. I wrapped the first few pieces and did a rough glue (which is still wet) for the large basking site structure. Went out yesterday for spray foam restock, I really need to keep myself busy physically and the tank is a good excuse. After the first pieces dry I'm gonna get some foam done today!
I'll also need to get some more equipment for the final build. I want to update the heating for the water portion and obv need to get the UVB and basking site setup. I may also get an additional LED bar since these are kinda weak and were meant to be temporary when I got them initially. Would 3 be overkill??? Rhetorical question; the answer is yes but it would be very pretty.
This is going to take so many cans of spray foam lol. Carving is going to be fun.
I think im going to have to complete the foam / grout process in two parts to build up the layers of ledges I want in the final build. With the brace in the center of the tank it's going to be difficult to reach some of the bg so I think two separate stages is going to be the only way to do it right. It's just gonna take a bit more time than I originally budgeted.
getting closer to the first round of carving. I have a few spots to patch with spray foam, then will give it a couple days to fully cure before starting
