Being laid off from work a few months before grad school:
Whenever someone asks me, "And what are you going to do with THAT degree?" My response is:
But on the inside I'm like:
When another bill is added to your list of, 'bills to pay for that mom and dad won't take care of anymore'
The extent of human interaction I'm willing to tolerate by the end of the week:

My response to all the people who ask me,Ā āSo, what are you going to do with THAT degree?ā My father lost his job a while back. Thankfully he has work now, but when he was unemployed I saw this GIF which really resonated with me and made me feel secure in my decision to go to Grad school for what I love.

Criteria to be applied to even those studies with which you agree!
(Too few studies are truly good science - lack of sufficient funding, prejudice, ego, etc.)

On April 24th, 1915, the Ottoman Empire (present-day Turkey), then under the power of the Young Turks, arrested and later killed 235-270 Armenian community leaders in Constantinople (Istanbul), commonly called Red Sunday. This is considered the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. This genocide, which is often brushed over in history class, resulted in the death of approximately 1.5 million Armenian people. Greek and Assyrian people were targeted at this time as well. However, these are considered separate but deserve just as much recognition. Ā
Today, April 24th, 2015, marks 100 years since the genocide began.
During the genocide, many Armenians led on death marches to the Syrian desert, forced into concentration camps, and had other crimes against humanity were committed against them, such as mass burnings, drownings, experimentations, and many more horrific atrocities. The genocide lasted until 1918, but brutality continued well into 1923 and anti-Armenian discrimination and violence still happens today.
The Turkish government still refuses to recognize their crimes. To this day, only 22 countries recognize the genocide, with Uruguay being the first. Please, call for your governments to recognize the Armenian Genocide and hold Turkey accountable for their genocide. Ask your teacher to talk about it in class. Inform your peers. Donāt let them forget.
