Our little hostess is all dressed up and ready to greet everyone at The Flour Dog someday.

The first gig for The Flour Dog! An "unbirthday" themed Alice in Wonderland Halloween party. 4 layer chocolate "unbirthday" cake. Bunny butt sugar cookies Clock sugar cookies Playing card chocolate and honey Grahams. These were a lot of fun to conceptualize and make. The cake was the most challenging part, and started off in pretty bad shape. Turns out, sometimes you just need more icing. (Lesson learned- always more icing than you think you'll need) The accents and such were added tonight, and even though it's a little wonky, it's a delicious and silly unbirthday cake. The bunny butt cookie is the white rabbit ascending into wonderland. Down the rabbit hole! The playing cards were the first solid idea. Half a graham cracker dipped in almond bark and decorated after hardening and trimming away excess chocolate. Still can't believe it all came together. Overall, there was not much of a gain as far as materials go, but the first time is always a learning experience. Excited for the next time. I think I'll be taking a break from cakes for a while.

lack up updates lately, partially due to this little rambo taking up all of our free time.  Meet the newest addition to The Flour Dog family, Scout the 8 week old australian shepherd. soon she'll be a 60 pound hoss romping around the restaurant with Pistol keeping the other dog visitors in line. our little herder in the making!

holy cow! it's Good Morning Mondays for the Flour Dog! one of our concepts for The Flour Dog dream is Good Morning Mondays, serving Tess's delicious specialty breakfast recipes all day long! every Monday you'll be able to come lounge around, listen to some cool jams, enjoy the best coffee, and order one of Tess's original comfort-food-creations. and of course, remember to wear your most comfy pajamas and bring your little dog too. we'll see you there in like a year or something!

In honor of National Chocolate Chip day, we made chocolate chip cookie bars! These are very similar to a cookie, but richer and more like a brownie as far as texture goes. Super delicious and semi sweet!

here's a photo collage journal i made for the growth of our squash plants! we began our garden on April 6 with store-bought baby plants and a few low-budget containers to start them off in. it only took a month for the tiny plantlings to outgrow the space they shared with the other sprouts, so we transplanted non-squash to separate containers and tilled fresh potting soil into the dirt. moving the plants to their own containers showed improvement immediately! buds began to blossom and the leaves look much more green. grow little squashes! we can't wait to eat your babies!

We got into the Mother’s Day spirit with these best-ever chocolate cupcakes! The batter was thin and included hot coffee, cocoa, and buttermilk! I often use an ice cream scoop to get an even amount of batter in every cup! The icing is a mix I like to use a lot, since it’s only 4 ingredients (butter, confectioners sugar, vanilla, and milk). With some food coloring and late nights laughs, these were ready for our moms on Mother’s Day!
