✨Here is a fun little survey for anyone who wants to participate. You do not have to be tagged or receive any asks to join. You do not have to be a @pathandpractice tag member to participate. It is not an ask game; just a good, old fashion myspace-style survey. Just copy this post questions, post your answers, and (if you feel like it) tag a few blogs. If your magic had a theme song what would it be?
It's not a song per se, but deep space sounds feel quite fitting at this point.
What’s the weirdest substitute component you’ve ever used?
I don't know if it would be considered weird, but I've used cactus spikes in place of nails at times.
What’s a superstition you don’t believe in?
That you have to have your first tarot deck gifted to you. I bought my own first deck at 16 and I never had any problems with it.
What’s the most chaotic spell outcome? How off target did it go?
Picture this: me, age 18, still a novice and still getting a lot of my witch information off the Internet, clearly has never heard of a freezer spell.
The target: a friend who had a very clearly stated crush on me that honestly was verging on obsession.
The spell: an attempt at getting said friend's crush/obsession to slow down/stop. I don't remember a lot of what I put in there but a key ingredient was honey. I think we can all see where this is going.
The result: full blown obsession and overwhelming attention until I panicked and ghosted them.
So, uh. Eventually got the attention to stop I guess, but at the cost of the friendship.
What’s something completely mundane that feels magical to you?
The first fireflies of summer!
What kind of magic are you bad at?
Any workings related to romantic relationships and workings that require strong emotion as fuel.
What’s a sign or omen you completely misread at first?
I don't really ask for signs or look for omens, so I couldn't tell. At least, there's nothing I can remember.
If your altar could judge you what would it say you’re neglecting?
Practical spell work. Fatigue is rough, and I've really only had the energy for little bits of research here and there.
What is one witchcraft hill you will die on?
Picking just one is hard to do, but:
For the love of whatever higher force is out there, do your research. Use your brain, don't take anything anyone tells you as the gospel truth, and question everything. Learn critical thinking skills and interrogate your own beliefs. Don't neglect mundane sources. Always keep learning and remember that you too are susceptible to propaganda.
Please, please do the research. I promise it'll enrich your craft (and your life) so much more than you think.
What’s a habit you’ve turned into ritual?
I suppose my journaling would count. Whenever I'm writing (whether it's notes from research/tarot readings, regular stream of consciousness, or spiritual reflection) I put on a particular playlist, light a candle, and sit in one of my magical spaces.
If you could take the shape of an animal for a day what would you choose?
A cat probably. That way I could spend the day with my kitties and be able to understand them better!
If your magic had a moral alignment, what would it be?
What’s a belief you had early in your practice that you laugh at now?
That if I didn't cast a circle for every magical working I did some unspecified but scary thing would happen to me.
If you could bottle one type of feeling and use it for spellwork what would it be?
Anger. I don't feel emotions strongly, if at all, so it's very rare that my spellwork is emotionally motivated. It's even rarer for me to feel anger strongly enough, and long enough, that I could use it as fuel for a spell. Having some bottled anger for justice work or the occasional hex on a very deserving target would be nice I think.
What’s your shouldn’t work but it does method?
It's ridiculous, but divination by the amount of grape fruit snacks in a single pack. The more there are, the better day I'll have. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but it hasn't failed me yet!
What’s the most aesthetic thing over practical you’ve done in your practice?
Purchased crystals for the ✨fancy altar aesthetic✨. I don't use crystals in my practice and never have, they were just purely for looking nice.
If your practice had a warning label, what would it be?
OBSERVE ALL APPROPRIATE FIRE SAFETY MEASURES AT ALL TIMES. NO EXCUSES.
What’s the first magical book you read?
The first magical book I ever read was Handbook for Hot Witches: Dame Darcy's Illustrated Guide to Magic, Love, and Creativity when I was 13. I found it at the local dollar store. I think I still have it in storage somewhere!
I wasn't tagged, but saw this on @cultusquercus' blog and thought it would be fun.
I don't really know anyone well enough to tag them, but anyone who would like to join is welcome.
