HE’S STEALING THE BROWN
Exandria Unlimited: Calamity (2022) Episode 2: Bitterness and Dread
“Who knows if Benjamin Franklin had kids, but probably.” is WILD to me like that is not esoterica!!! that is an easy fact to check!!! Like if you want to give him the benefit of the doubt, the better way to phrase it would be "Benjamin Franklin probably had more kids than we know about" but that is like. a GROSSLY generous read of his assertion? what is HAPPENING with this man's beef with the field of history?
Right like the generous part of me would think “this is not ideal phrasing” if I hadn’t also been blown away by the astonishment he expressed that a producer could look up a fact in 5 seconds during the recording.
The really uncharitable part of me has started thinking “this is a person whose social capital relied on Knowing Things being increasingly confronted with a world that can fact check those things, and not handling it well.”
Also some people mentioned it in the comments of my post, but in addition to having an incorrect view of history’s rigor as a discipline, please also know that most of what was said about the Templars and various secret societies in that episode is just. Not correct.
Throwback friday (??) to when Azune absolutely demolished an entire hallway full of assassins??!

Hal and Thaisha are not divorced. I definitely thought so at the start of the campaign, but by the time we get the end of the Conference, it's clear to me that they aren't. for one thing, they were never married so in a literal sense they can't be divorced. but more to the spirit of what people mean when they call them divorced, I personally don't believe Hal and Thaisha's romantic relationship ever ended. she still has a designated room at his house despite having a family home in the same city. they still canonically sleep together. and throughout the Convergence we can see how deeply they still love each other, through words and actions. I can understand why people assume they're divorced/broken up. their relationship decidedly functions very differently from what is average and conventional. if I had to put specific terms to it, I'd call it a long-distance open relationship. but that feels rather clinical and like an attempt to shove it into an easily understood digestible box, which seems silly to do considering they're a completely different species with a completely different culture from a completely different world. whatever the case, I love the two of them and what they share for its unique view of what romance can look like. and I'm excited to see how their relationship develops, as well as their individual relationships with other characters
I’m sorry but I need Weird Kid listeners to know that Taliesin does not actually understand how history works and his explanation coupled with the context he gave it in gave me second hand embarrassment.
“Who knows if Benjamin Franklin had kids, but probably.” I do! I know that information! He had several legitimate children even. His son was the Royal Governor of New Jersey during the Revolutionary War and sided with the Loyalists and was jailed for the whole war even. They never spoke again!
I know this because I’ve read books by historians about the Loyalist movement in North America from 1776-1820. AHHHHHHH

sorry to be brave on the internet but I think food labels should list every single ingredient and that there should be harsher penalties for mislabeling and deceptive labeling
Seconded.
Do.....do other places not do this?
Myne it's an England thing but I've just grabbed the closest things to me and they both have an extensive list of ingredients.
Hand cream
Turkish delight/Chocolate
Hi! so both of these labels actually have the exact problem we're complaining about!
from label 1:
in the US and EU, this is a generic term meaning "something we put in here to make it smell nice" and there is absolutely NO way of knowing if that is a scent you are allergic to or not. some of these can be a mix of up to 200 distinct components.
from label 2:
i think you can probably see the problem here?
the issue isn't that we don't have ingredient lists. the issue is that "trade secrets" are more important than people's lives, so if a company says that listing the actual ingredients might allow people to copy them, it is legal for them to put "it's a secret, tee hee".
Also, in Australia and multiple other countries, if an ingredient makes up less than 5% of the overall product, you dont have to list it. Which is extremely problematic not just for people wanting to make informed decisions about what to put in or on their bodies, but also, obviously, for allergen reasons as well. 4.5% of the overall product is absolutely enough to trigger allergies in plenty of people, but it doesn't have to be listed because its less than 5%. Bonkers stupid idiotic awful.

#oh my god this IS TORAH#this is literally. like beat for beat. a story from the Talmud.
@aparrotandaqrow wait which one/what's the story??? 👀
It's the Oven of Akhnai!
Very briefly, a bunch of rabbis are arguing about how a kiln/oven should be kept pure. Rabbi Eliezer has his opinion, and all the other Sages disagree with him.
Eliezer tries every logical angle to convince them he's right. They won't budge. He declares that if he's right, a carob tree will uproot itself and move. The nearest carob tree uproots itself and moves 400 cubits. They still insist he's wrong, replying that we don't make laws based on trees. He declares that if he's right, the nearby stream will show it. The stream flows backwards. The Sages reply that we don't legislate based on streams. He declares that the very walls of the building will show it, and they begin to collapse inwards. Rabbi Yehoshua scolds the walls ("cut it out; this isn't your fight"), and in deference to his stature, the walls stop, though remain bent.
Finally, Rabbi Eliezer declares that if he's right, the Heavens themselves will confirm it. The sky parts, and the voice of God rings out: "Why do you disagree with Rabbi Eliezer? He is correct, as he always is in these matters."
Rabbi Yehoshua stands up, and replies. "The Torah is not in Heaven. We will decide the law based on majority rule, as it says in the Torah." (I.e. thanks for the Torah; we'll take it from here. The proper practice is whatever you can convince everyone it is.)
God smiles, and says to his angels, "my children have triumphed over me."
The Sages rule against Eliezer, burn anything he had declared pure in his oven, and ostracize him.
for those who come after.
