people should remember that the word "hunk" exists
no, unless he's a young father, that's not a dilf, that's a hunk. If you want to call a childless man a dilf, at least make him middle aged
no, that's not a bear, that's a hunk. Bears must be fat and hairy
no, that's not a himbo, that's a hunk. Himbos must be dumb, beefy and kind simultaneously, if he's just dumb and beefy that's a hunk
like, cmon people, there's nothing wrong with a humble hunk. Why are you so mean to him?
Y'all ever think about the way video game bosses are designed to lose? How the bombastic soundtracks, the impressive displays of villainy, the teeth-rattling power of their attacks, are at once engineered not just to sell you on how unfathomably strong and vile they are, but also to make the player's inevitable victory all the sweeter?
Viewed this way, a boss battle is more like a choreographed dance - they call, you respond and counter-call. The trick is to learn the steps - once you know where to move, when to strike, when to defend and how to best allocate your resources, victory is not just achievable but actually almost impossible to avoid. You cannot help but recite the winning plays, over and again, because that is what the dance demands of you both - and is there not a savage sort of beauty in such a thing?
Is it any wonder then that we look back on these bosses so fondly, almost as if they were old friends? We danced together once, and oh what fun we had while doing it!
Detecting Solavellan
I think it's quite fitting, actually, that it's Sera and Vivienne who first notice Lavellan and Solas making eyes at one another.
For Sera it makes total sense she notices the bond forming between Solas and Lavellan early on due to her vocal distaste for all things elfy; and honestly, what could possibly be more elfy than a couple of elfy elves getting it on?
"I've seen how you look at him. You're in it. Bet he calls out "Elven glory" when he does it." - Sera
Sera: So, you and the Lady Inquisitor. Interesting. Solas: Your interest is not my concern. Sera: That's all right, because I meant boring. The elf always takes the elf so that bumping bits will mean something. Solas: It is not a topic for discussion. Sera: Oh, come on. Drop 'em and rebuild the empire. Phwoar! Lavellan: (Laughter) You're ridiculous. Sera: Not me. It's him! And you. Solas: Only one of us is looking sad and foolish, Sera. Sera: Oh, go twang your ears!
Sera's casual mocking aside, I'd say that she seems to genuinely find the relationship offensive.
For Vivienne, well, she's a player of the Game, and she finds Solas to be... suspicious. To say the least.
"I don't know what to make of Solas. So much knowledge and so little personal history... I find that... peculiar, don't you?" - Vivienne
"Is it my imagination, dear, or have certain... lingering looks passed between you and our Solas?" - Vivienne
Regardless, Madame de Fer isn't about to openly mock Lavellan for her choice of lovers, as that would be terribly foolish of her; and Vivienne is no fool. So, why risk bringing it up? Why comment on Lavellan's love life at all?
Two possibilities.
Such a good point!
And don’t forget Solas! Solas also doesn’t like Solas!

Bathroom clutter…. My god
My post-Schreier thoughts:
I remain unconvinced that Veilguard's chronic writing was anything but a skill issue on the part of (some) writers. We now know that rewrites were thought necessary at several stages due to poor reception—it was slop from the beginning, with nothing to salvage and no talent remaining to pull it back from the brink.
Changes not possible due to voice-acting strikes? Okay, sure. What about the written content? The pitiful attempts at what this game considers "codex" entries. The failures in tone and voice in them compared to previous games. The notes, my god, the notes.
What about the disappointing or even self-destructive narrative choices made that were entirely unvoiced, and in fact never mentioned in dialogue? The absolute travesty of a decision to write off the South in a few lines?
What about fundamental parts of Tevinter, Nevarran, Rivaini, Dalish and Antivan lore missing from the game that could have been tucked away in the codex in a pinch, but weren't?
What about the characters from Tevinter Nights—all the faction leaders—who you only know if you read Tevinter Nights, because the game doesn't bother to explain who they are, even in little slivers of readable lore dotted around the world? I found out more about Rylen or the Mayor of Crestwood from picking up notes playing Inquisition than I did about Antoine, or Myrna, or even Viago in Veilguard.
I was cautiously neutral on Weekes' leadership, but I also thought of them as more of a "clever" writer, as in, they often leaned into being clever over something substantial, deployed enjoyable turns of phrase, relied on double entendres and misdirection. Good stuff, sure! But if that's all you've got in your toolkit, and what you instead need is something solid—the nuts and bolts to make a story stick—you get something lacking complexity, depth, nuance, and heart. Something shallow. Something like Veilguard.
(And as for Epler? Man, pick a different profession.)
I’m dumb so idk how to attached the tags I saw on this but someone made a really good point that Corrine busche did her freaking job getting this game out in a non buggy state. Everyone else??? They did not do what they were supposed to do which was write good stuff! Look I also hate live service games but are you seriously going to tell me that they are funded incompatible with rich lore? They are not! You can write cool and interesting characters for a live service game! I’m sorry but as much as emmerich is a fan favorite he is also the most toothless necromancer I have ever encountered in a game. And he can become a lich! Where is the eldrich horror? Where is the terror of the monster within made flesh! He goes from a nice man with a skeleton son to a nice skeleton or a nice man with a resurrected skeleton son. And no one in game discussed how the common thread in all these endings is the magical manipulation of a wisp (willing or otherwise)! This is just one point to illustrate that yes criticism for EA’s terrible management is 100% warranted. But a year is more than enough time to write nuanced characters, I’ve read enough fan fic to prove it.
It's not fair that dragon age confirmed lyrium was blood and thus all magic powered by lyrium is blood magic and the templars themselves are probably blood mages. And then didn't allow me to see the political and social fall out of that. But also didn't allow me to see Thedas academic reactions to that.
That’s because they had to retcon the entirety of the Lyrium trade or else they might have to acknowledge that the allegedly ‘struggling’ Dwarves have one of the world’s most lucrative industries under their thumb and that it alone (the Dwarves have several thriving industries) has generated enough revenue for nobility and generational wealth to exist, which is far more than the allegedly ‘thriving’ Elves have.
They would also have to acknowledge that the primary consumer of Lyrium over the last several centuries has been the Human dominated Chantry, who have made the consumption of Lyrium a critical part of their infrastructure. Templars would not exist without Lyrium.
So I assume that they just retconned pretty much all of that in the interest of making what a handful of Spirits turned Elves did thousands upon thousands of years ago a bigger issue in Modern Thedas than it actually is. Holding modern Elves responsible for what happened in Elvhenan is like holding modern Germans for the Sacking of Rome and insisting they should apologize for it next time they encounter an Italian person.
Holy shit this got really funny to really sad really quick

I understand everyone's frustrations about the Lilo & Stitch live action remake, it pretty much dumps on everything that made the animation great. But I hope amidst all that anger and frustration we don't forget that the lead actor is a little girl who, as far as I can tell, is the perfect Lilo not just in front of but behind the camera as well and who is probably living her absolute dream right now
Air your grievances about the movie itself, the way it changed the story, the way it massacred the characters and the lessons and is just plain bad and unnecessary as loudly and as vocally as you want so that hopefully Disney finally gets a fucking clue. But also keep Maia herself out of it because one day she might read this stuff
Frozen: After years of longing I am finally reunited with my sister whom I love.
Frozen II: Bye.
Wreck-It Ralph: After years of abuse and neglect I've made a friend who admires and respects me.
Ralph Breaks The Internet: Bye.
Lilo and Stitch: After years of struggle and trauma I've made friends who admire and respect me and I can stay united with my sister whom I love.
Lilo and Stitch (2025): Bye.
Disney, do you have something you need to talk about? Any issues? Anything at all?
maybe i set my hopes too high, but when i imagined grand necropolis i thought of giant tombs, of golden sarcophagus, maybe just embalmed corpses laying on a golden stand in the middle of a room waiting for the next step of mummifications. huge underground mausoleums for members of specific families.
circle mages having inside rivalries, fighting for a mere chance to become an apprentice to some famous mortalitasi or get patronage of a noble family (because it's the only way out of the circle)
of mortalitasy combining entrophy/necromancy magic with herbalist knowledge to preserve the corpses better.
not the "spooky-scary-skeletons" doing the minimum wage jobs here and there
I wanted to see the place the love of my life Cassandra Allegra Portia Calogera Filomena Pentaghast grew up in and all they showed us was a giant sandbox! NO~ Casandra grew up in opulence and I demand to see it!
DAI and Trespasser put SO MUCH EFFORT in deconstructing godhood especially with Corypheus. What is a god but a very powerful (and meglomaniacal) mage? Solas emphasizes that he is not a god over and over again. In Trespasser he leaves behind murals, asking for no worship and that he will help refugees find freedom and gives them a safe place to hide. In Trespasser, Solas gives you a name to call these powerful mage-kings - Evanuris.
Then Veilguard throws all of that out the window. "the GODS" this or "THE GODS!!1111111" that. That one bad ending with Solas going "I AM A GOD" nevermind he's been emphasizing he is not a god.
"The key is understanding this: No real god need prove himself. Anyone who tries is mad or lying. His deception will undo him, as it has done countless fools before." - DAI
"I am not a god, Charter. I am prideful, hotheaded, and foolish, and I am doing what I must. When you report back to the Inquisitor..." His voice faltered, "Say that I am sorry." - Tevinter Nights
Even if some interpretations say that Solas has gone full pride demon at those endings - I truly think that Solas, EVEN AT HIS MOST PRIDEFUL, would not. Say. That. He would probably say something along the lines that he knows better than the PC, that he alone can fix the broken world he has made.
Varric: People are dying!!
Solas, who invented people being able to die and is currently trying to uninvent that: Yeah, man. Glad we can agree on this.
Massive Veilguard spoilers ahead, but this post I made in June now just... baffles me.
It's a reference to the start of the game where Varric points out correctly that people are dying, and Solas says, "That's what they do."
And I assumed, along with, oh, around 5k people on tumblr i guess, that this was Solas's doublespeak. He is tearing down the Veil because people are dying--he lost them their immortality thousands of years ago and he is trying to restore it. People dying right now is an ongoing crisis that he is trying to solve, but ultimately unimportant to the end result of people being immortal again, when they will stop dying.
Except... we get to the end of the game, and that isn't his motivation anymore. Doesn't even mention it. Doesn't mention any of the benefits of getting rid of the Veil. Just says the world is wrong and it's not how it was when Mythal was alive.
So this brilliant doublespeak at the beginning of the game laying out his motivation that we know from Trespasser is... not that. It's nothing. Were the writers misleading us about what this game was going to be? Did they forget they retconned the shit out of Solas and forgot to make this line make sense? Is Solas just supposed to be a callous murderous asshole now?

Friendly reminder that:
Qunari are empowering Saarebas with lyrium so that they can become stronger, open temporary Rifts, slow time down, and use mysterious spells, all through unknown means.
Tevinter is terribly weakened, corrupted, and will not last in the war against the Qunari.
Fen’Harel, now incredibly powerful, is planning to eliminate the corrupted parts of the Qun (good thing), but also to tear down the Veil (not that good, depending on the consequences). He will probably help the Tevinter slaves in rebelling against their masters too.
Titans are awakening. They are enormous beings living deep underground, whose blood has been consumed for millennia by mages and Templars alike, shaping the world as it is today. They also seem able to influence events above ground and they are very angry with the world or at least with the elves. They will probably re-establish their contact/link with the dwarves.
Something is happening in Weisshaupt, the Wardens have gone silent, and a new Blight is most likely coming.
The Evanuris are still locked away, but it’s obvious they will get free soon. They are a bunch of homicidal assholes who will not think twice about conquering Thedas again. They might be also tainted by the Blight, if the theories “Evanuris locked away with the Blight in the Black City” are true.
If Kieran was born, Flemeth/Mythal took the Old God’s soul from him, planning to do something with it. We still don’t know what it is, but it’s unlikely she will stay “dead”. She still has to have her revenge, her “reckoning which will shake the very heavens”.
Either Morrigan or the Inquisitor drank from the Well of Sorrows and the consequences of that act are still unclear, but whatever they are, they are going to suck or at least be mildly disturbing.
Mysterious Dalish elves live in the Tirashan. They are violent, cruel, and worship the Forgotten Ones.
Strange people from the Volca Sea are returning after a long absence, claiming a terrible calamity struck their lands.
We still don’t know what lies beyond the Amaranthine Ocean, but whatever it is, it makes people go insane and suicidal.
Basically Thedas right now:
They made Solas dumb in Veilguard, and that's worse than making him more villainous. I would have preferred him do the shittiest things imaginable over what they did to him. At least then, it would have been interesting.
ONE MORE thing!! I’ve prob already waffled on about this in a previous post (so apologies if I have).
BUT! I’ve been told many a time that I (being a Solavellan) just can't handle Solas’ portrayal as a villain. And…I want to shake them! Like, I wanted to see more of his villainous side!! He wasn't villainous enough for me! I wanted him to become the monster he was so afraid of Lavellan seeing!
“I will not have you see what I become.”
He was not portrayed well as a villain imo. He was in timeout, twanging his ears in the Fade for 3/4 of the game! I wanted to see him burn everything down so I could be like, “Noooooooo! Please, stop!” I wanted it to be painful to watch as he became more twisted and corrupted! But still in keeping with his original motivations set out in Trespasser (and also the same level of intelligence I fell in love with).
Solas being just some sad guy obsessed with a past relationship and having a mid-life(?) crisis, realising that a management role wasn't it for him anymore was NOT what I wanted 😂
