Me trying to choose a yarn for a new project
people on tumblr tend to be pretty good about the whole âyou should pay artists thingâ but i just want to put out there: that includes fibre artists
i canât count the number of times iâve been knitting or embroidering something and someone is like âoh can you make me one?â and then they get offended when i tell them theyâd have to pay me.
real talk: nice yarn/wool is expensive. sewing machines are expensive. for every handmade skirt or stuffed animal you see online there are at least a half-dozen prototypes in the creatorâs closet that canât be sold.
and thatâs not even getting into the time spent on these projects. i have some things iâve probably spent in excess of 100 hours on. i canât even fathom making a living wage knitting stuff, because nobody would ever pay that much.
tl:dr; fibre artists deserve to be paid for their time and skill just like visual artists and if you can âbuy something just like that at walmart for $5âł please just do that and stop wasting our time
i'm yarning. it's like yearning except i'm exclusively yearning for yarn. which i currently have atm and i'm crocheting my blankey as I speak but i yearn for even more yarn.

If y'all are felling generous, my dad, along with his work colleagues, is trying to raise money to buy materials to produce PPE to be donated to anyone that needs it in the local community.
This is something they've been working out how to do for quite a while, initially looking at making ventilators, but they didn't have a set up that would allow them to do this. Instead, they'll be making PPE. Hopefully, they'll reach or even exceed their fundraising target!

Hedwig Kohn (1887-1964) was a German physicist. She was one of only three woman qualified to teach physics in universities in Germany before World War II.
She was the second woman accepted to study physics at the University of Breslau, where she obtained her PhD in 1913. She lost her position in 1933 because she was Jewish, and moved to the United States, where she taught at Wellesley College and other institutions.
