The slight downturn to the corners of Lindsayâs lips was the first clue that anything was wrong, the way her fingers twitched over the keyboard, the way she paused distractedly in her work. Silence never felt good with the redhead; she was bubbly, always filling up the...
It had been a long time since Ryan had a hurt emotionally, and an even longer time since he had felt guilt seep through his veins, flood through his thoughts. Every second that past was pounding against his skull, reminding him that of all the steps he had taken in Los Santos, almost none of them had been in Lindsayâs direction, had been for her and her alone. Having her leave his home had almost torn him, had been the final snap of the scissors over their seam, and that was everything he didnât want.
And so he distanced himself. Allowed himself to take one step toward the edge, and then another. The longer it went on, the closer he came to the end, and when she wasnât standing by his side to pull him back-
    He fell.
Ryan was no longer himself, had lost the warmth in his laughter that had so often been shared over outrageous, matched with the light, joyous laughter of the red head. He had turned grim, if anything, even more sullen. His work began to occupy all of his thoughts, until it became everything he was. It was his schedule, his time, his breath against the polluted air of the city. Had the pieces fallen away, though, or were they instead painted over and hidden by a wall of concrete? Here he stood by Lindsayâs side, and as her head fell, so did everything he had been trying to hold up.
There was no reason to keep back. She knew he wasnât as sane as he was, knew that emotions were difficult for him but he tried- and that was it, he wasnât even showing he was trying. Not anymore. So much seclusion had left him broken beyond being fixed, but watching as red hair fell across her face, it stung. She was upset, that much was obvious; he had never taught her how to hide her emotions well, and he never would. She was upset, shaken, and all he had done was disrupt her further and pushed her until it got worse.
There was a momentary pause between her speaking, a heavy silence that clouded the air like a toxin. Placing a warm handle on her shoulder to let her know she was safe, Ryanâs eyes held the sadness of the world as he watched Lindsay tremble from her silent tears. âLindsay,â he lowered his voice as he spoke, addressing her directly and once again after that for reassurance. âLindsay. I appreciate everything you do. We donât speak as often anymore, and I know thatâs my fault, but I appreciate from afar. Youâve kept us more than safe on our heists, and youâve taught yourself on your own more than I ever could.â
There was an unspoken, âIâm proudâ somewhere in there, words Ryan simply couldnât seem to force from his throat. His burned his tongue, filled his mouth with the taste of ash and regret, but as much as he wanted to spit it out, it failed to come. The best he could do was frown, pull back slightly on her chair. âYou should take a break from your work. We can go make hot chocolate.â
Once she was finished she stepped out wiping her hands on a cloth, Looking up at the windows and chewing her lip a little.
"We do, but Jack told me that it was installed when he moved here. I mean it works well enough now. Are you suggesting we need an upgrade or something?" She walked up to the window and looked up at the black box on the side of the window.
âI wouldnât say itâs necessary, more of a precaution you could take, and Iâm very much available at the moment as you know.â Not that there was a lot he could do without any equipment, though. Perhaps just take a look at the system, scan its programming, mark down what could be upgraded or if anything seems to need immediate attention. If he hadnât been given orders to stay there, he would take Caiti with him on the drive over to the warehouse to pull together supplies. Motion detection and heat seeking seemed over the top, but then again, it was a crew safe house. It was a home to all of them, in a way, and could use the extra protection.
Simply glancing out the window told him that it could at least use an updated camera, a mobile one even, anything to give them an advantage over oncomers. âThere isnât a lot I can do now, of course, but if youâd allow me, I could take a look at the system, mark down anything that could be upgraded. I canât imagine Geoff denying you the funds to pay for it.â The only problem lied in the fact that it would never take long enough to occupy his mind, always racing, thoughts biting away at each other in a needy attempt to become the most dominant. It almost physically hurt to be tucked away while the action raged outdoors; Ryan could only imagine how Mrs. Patillo felt being the overseer. Â
â
âNo, I tend to say all I need without words.â He hadnât meant to sound profound; it was clear through body language and actions what Ryan intended, wanted. Information was always the key, and while he may have talked now and then to intimidate the victim into finally...
The smile on Ryanâs lips grew if it were possible, pleased to hear Michael was agreeing to come. Not that he wouldnât have gone alone, but that it wouldnât be worth it at this point. He would have to clean up the body and wash down the back room eventually; having Jones joining him meant time put it off. He was a hard enough worker and not much of a procrastinator, but that didnât mean he didnât like to take time for himself and enjoy what he did every now and again.
âWe donât have to stay out all night, no. Thereâs quite a few places on my hit list to choose from, we can go to whatever is closest, if you want.â Moving to his own desk, Ryan pulled open the middle drawer to his left, flipping quickly through the stacks of paper before pulling out an orange slip with a list of four or five addresses neatly scrawled on the front. They might lose track of the time, that was always a possibility, but that responsibility didnât fall of Haywoodâs shoulders. Instead he handed the thin sheet over to Michael, giving him the opportunity to chose where they hit.
âItâs only a small compilation, some thoughts I had off the top of my head. You might need a few more stickies than that, though, depending.â Closing the drawer, hands moved up to the large metal cabinet above where he worked, quickly entering a set of four numbers on the lock before sliding open the doors. âSome of the larger facilities will likely need a full parameter of explosives to be touched, theyâre too large to be effectively hit by a few selectively well placed bombs.â Revealing an array of pre-made explosives and a large enough stock of ammo, Ryan gave a glance at the Jersey boy to tell him that now was the time to take advantage to this free access.
âI had been planning to hit up these places for some time now, stocking up for a time I was available. You just happened to be here at a good time for me.â If anything, Michael was a guy who could appreciate a good light show, and he could respect that. There werenât many who would agree to an outing with Ryan that he planned himself, not for distrust in his leadership skills, but simply for not wanting to have Geoff on their tails if it went wrong, among other reasons.
Rye-bread, if you have any spare stickies could you leave them for me at the warehouse? I used most of my stock taking out a building for the boss.
Most of mine are being put into practice for a side job I'm preparing for, but once I have the free time I can put together some more for you if you don't seem to have the time. I wouldn't mind.

I was hoping you'd feel that way. [break] Griffon and I can send some your way, but I'm not opposed to you catching some yourself either. [break] Honestly, information isn't too vital. I just want these other crews to know we aren't to be messed with. [break] Leave at least one to two alive, and I fucking love that idea of you putting our emblem in play. Get creative, I know it's what you do best. [break] This is your project, buddy. I trust you.
Of course I do, Geoff.
[break]
Send a few down. If I find I need a few more, I'll be sure to pull something together.
[break]
If fear is what you're going for, intimidation, I can take care of that. I'll aim more for gruesome and foreboding than tactical.
[break]
I'll make sure I send a body back with our emblem, then, I'm glad you approve. Creative is what I do best, you know that. Perhaps I'll pull out some books for a few ideas. It's good to hear that you trust me with this, though; it is one of my more mastered areas of practice, after all.
OOC; I just realized I told Geoff I would be catching myself some mice. Oh, would you look at that, a mouse trap let's play came out today. I think I'm psychic.
Well, you're part of the bigger picture and you're more than welcome to work alone. [break] Thinking of snatching up some rival members, sending them your way and letting you do whatever you like. Get some info on their plans, leave a couple alive so they can spread the word that it was us and that we're still active.
Sounds quite interesting, actually. I could get pretty invested in this, if you're willing to let me.
[break]
Are you going to bring the bodies my way, then? Or am I to be catching myself some mice on my own?
[break]
If you want any specific information or any certain amount of them left alive, you're going to have to let me know. Otherwise, I'm just going to see how everything fairs as I go.
[break]
Would if be too much to carve our logo into their chest?
Reclaiming our position at the top. [break] I've got the boys taking out new crews, but we need to send a bigger message.
And you're assigning this bigger message to me, then, or am I being paired up with someone?
[break]
How exactly are we reclaiming our position, is the question.
Get your knives or whatever it is you use in that creepy dungeon of yours.
It's a warehouse, Geoff, not a dungeon.
[break]
What exactly is it I'm preparing for?

Well, I'm me. I know how I get. I know better than to stick myself on the safety line. {Break} You're right, Ryan. I should have just gone to you. We should have had a right proper conversation about it. Will you ever forgive me? {Break} I don't like the reminder that I'm still "grounded", but yes. We have plenty of free time on our hands to take mentor this guy or whatever. Probably for the best I put some space between Michael and me. {Break} Ignore that last part, will you?
At least you're aware, props for that.
[break]
In the future, I might be able to, but I need time for now.
[break]
It's your own fault, you get to deal with the repercussions. Let it be the first lesson Miles learns, you reap what you so, and there's no way out of that one, not usually.
[break]
As I've said before, so long as you stay out of my personal life, I stay out of yours.
Glad to know I haven't been placed on it as of yet. {Break} Not really the good start to a conversation now is it? "Hey, I can't have kids." Ryan, I am sorry I have misled you into believing otherwise. I should have trusted that we could work through it. {Break} We are Team Love n' Stuff after all. {Break} Maybe that's why we're in charge of him then, Ryan. You and I joined this life more willingly than some of the others. We have our reasons of course, but maybe Miles needs to see them.
As of yet; I see you have high hopes for yourself as well.
[break]
You should have trusted me, yes. It didn't have to be a good morning text, we could have discussed it over dinner like proper adults. What am I to you if you can't even be open to me about who you are?
[break]
That is no more convincing then before. You've still hurt me, Free.
[break]
Now you're the one getting poetical. Even Geoff has assured me we've been chosen because we were the only ones with free hands to hold the extra weight. Still, I suppose it doesn't hurt that we've joined more because of our own choices. He'll learn to accept it soon enough.
How generous of you to not add him to that list. Tell me, am I on that list? Or rather have been considered to be placed onto it? {Break} My lie was so to not hurt you, Ryan. The fact I cannot actually have children is a sad thing to most. Usually a deal breaker in some relationships. {Break} You are quite the philosophical being. You have a good point though and I won't disagree with you on that. I'd rather live this life over any other to be honest though.
It's been briefly considered. Never long enough to be serious.
[break]
Not yet, at least.
[break]
I feel as if my trust has been betrayed. You should have been honest with me from the start, we could have worked this out, we could have talked about it.
[break]
I can be when I feel up to it. I'm glad you've come to learn to agree with me, though; now to simply get Miles to such a point. For once we're on the same page, though. I'd rather be here than anywhere else.
We'd figure it out. [break] C'mon, it's been forever since Team Magnum Dong's gone out and had some fun. [break] Pretty much. At least no say in that one. I guess it's reasonable if it means a lesser chance of getting shot.
Disguise it as a police chopper.
[break]
It's been a while, you're right. We have a lot of hired hands to take care of the dirty work for us; a shame, that was always my favorite part. It's never too late to put Team Magnum Dong back in action, though.
[break]
It's damn well reasonable. You should have listened to your own rules from the start. At least you know for next time.

How nice of you to do so before you blow up more things. {Break} Commenting on both those lines of text: No I didn't have the kid, Mr. Haywood. I can't actually have kids at all. {Break} So no worries there on having to put up with someone carrying my genes. {Break} He's not very keen the idea of being buddy-buddy with the guy who dragged him into this life.
I know, it's quite generous of me, actually. I'm a busy many, with many things on my hit list. I'll be sure he isn't in the hit line, though.
[break]
How could you say such a think? You've been deceiving me this entire time. I thought for sure Miles carried both yours and my genes.
[break]
Sometimes it doesn't matter with they want. You're going to get thrown into shitty situations. You grow up, you live with it. That's how you cope. Find those willing to stick out a leg and trip those trailing behind you and stay with them, make it work. No body ever said life is a fair deal.
Ryan, don't be like that. You have to show some care for the guy. He's relying on us to keep him alive. {Break} And if you wish to be seen as a home wrecker then who am I to stop you? Michael will be fine about it. Not like we actually birthed the guy due to our scandalous relationship as you said. {Break} And it was a legitimate question, Ryan. These are things we should know as his parents!
I'll show my care through other ways, Gavin. Like dragging his body away from the wreck when he faints at the sight of blood.
[break]
Homewrecker it is, then. I bet Michael wanted to be a daddy with you, though. Actually, we should stop this track of conversation before it goes south.
[break]
Are you implying you did not actually birth our child? You've been lying to me, Mr. Free. I am appalled.Â
[break]
You keep saying parents as if we really are fathers to him, rather than just mentors. If you want to know what Miles listens to so badly, why don't you actually ask him?
