Oh shit. I never realized this.
This is a depressing reality every 4th of July.
So they go around the world bombing and killing people and then expect us to feel sorry for them?? Nah son, you deserve it.
me if i ever find out any of my neighbors are veterans
Hmmm. I mean, just because the army as an institution is flawed and damaging doesnāt mean everyone in it is a terrible person. To paint every single veteran with the same brush is reductive and to make light of the debilitating mental disorders many have just seems wrong. Like yes, fuck the military as an institution completely 100%, but blaming disabled ex-front-line infantry maybe isnāt the best direction for our anger, perhaps.
A lot of veterans are poor people who were intentionally targeted by scouting programs coming to their schools starting at age 13, and most of them are worse off coming back than they were to start with⦠letās be courteous to folks with PTSD
Donāt be an ableist fuckface. Intentionally triggering someone is disgusting.
I thought people on this godforsaken website at least understood this one basic principal, but apparently not, so let me make it crystal clear:Ā
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO BE SELECTIVELY PROGRESSIVEĀ
You can hate Ann Coulter. But if you suggest that she deserves to be raped, you are a misogynist.
You can hate Woody Allen. But if you say heās part of a Jewish conspiracy or joke about putting him in an oven, you are an antisemite.
You can hate Michael Vick. But you call for him to be lynched or call him the N-word, you are an anti-black racist.Ā
You can hate Caitlyn Jenner. But if you misgender her, or make comments about her genitalia, you are a transphobe.Ā
And you can hate the military. But if you deliberately try to trigger veterans with PTSD, you are an ableist piece of shit.Ā
You do no get to pick and choose which people to treat fairly when it comes to acknowledging and combatting prejudice.Ā
Not liking a person is not a free pass to disregard anti-prejudicial words and actions. Either you respect marginalized peoples as a whole (even if you donāt like an individual), or you donāt respect them at all. There is no middle ground.Ā
If anyone really like, agrees with harassing veterans with PTSD or anything similar, unfollow me right the fuck now. I donāt want you following me.
You donāt have to like the military, itās massively fucked up but y'all needs understand that most people in the military are victims of propaganda and are usually poor or part of a minority who are taken advantage of in order to join.
^^^ All of these comments tbh
Mhmm
They offered the ASVAB at my HIGH SCHOOL. They CAME INTO MY SCHOOL and said āIf you guys take the military aptitude test, you get free donuts and you miss the first half of the day.ā They brought in hot dogs. They brought food to a place where half of us were in poverty if not more, and they said, all you have to do is take a little test and youāll get a snack, you donāt have to come in to school on time (an extra full hour of sleep that morning!). So we did. By the hundreds. My younger brother, a year behind me in school, scored āthe highest weāve ever seen in the whole damn state, son,ā and for the next. Three. Fucking. Years. They harassed him. He got phone calls from every goddamn branch of the military. People would show up at our house at random, trying to recruit him. Theyād tell him horror stories about how much better it is to enlist than be drafted (as if thereād been a draft in our lifetime!). They called our Mom at work. They sent recruiters to talk to our stepfather, whoād been in the Army, to try to get a handle on my brotherās weak points. THREE FUCKING YEARS OF THIS. My brother is the second child of six. My brother was thirteen by the time he had his own pillow for the first time. My brother was hungry all the time, dizzy from hunger some daysāand oh, sidenote, my mother, stepfather and father are all abusive assholes whoād as soon hit you as look at you. Guess what year my brother graduated? If you guessed āMay, 2002,ā or āalmost immediately after 9/11,ā ding ding ding ding! The ONLY REASON my brother didnāt join the military, in the end, is that his girlfriend at the time said āIf you enlist, I will never speak to you again.ā Her dad was a military man, and he was also an abusive shithead, so in her head the two were inextricable. But if sheād said āgo for it?ā Or if she hadnāt said anything at all? Something like half of the males in my fucking graduating class enlisted. It was better than starving. And a great number of those are dead now. I hate the US military industry. Iām disgusted by the things our military does. But by god I donāt blame our veterans for what was done to them. Rich people donāt enlist. The ones who join the military are the ones who are hopeful that for once theyāll know that theyāre getting a meal, not just today but tomorrow too.
People horrifically fucking up facts about evolution and genetics too support their stupid beliefs or to seem smart and ārationalā is probably one of my big pet peevesĀ
Yeah. An enormous number of racists, misogynists, homophobes and transphobes Iāve met eventually whip out something about evolutionary biology and they never, ever, ever, ever have the slightest shadow of even a half-right idea what any of it means or ever cite a claim ever actually made by a scientific study.
Hereās a quick handy reference list or anyone who isnāt sure:
Homosexuality does exist in almost all social species.
āAlpha malesā are not a real phenomenon and in fact the most aggressive males tend to be the least reproductively successful.
āSurvival of the fittestā simply means that the success of a species hinges on how well it āfitsā its environment. It does not mean that stronger or smarter individuals are supposed to succeed. Those things can even be a detriment in nature by wasting too many resources.
āRaceā is not a biological concept. Someone who looks different from you has the same human genes, just a different grab-bag of dominant traits.
Evolution is not a march towards higher complexity, more intelligence or even more adaptability. Itās just a fluctuation of characteristics dictated by environmental pressures and mutation. A slime mold isnāt āless evolvedā than a hawk, just adapted for success under different parameters.
People didnāt evolve āfrom apes.ā Itās more complicated than that. We are a category of ape, sharing a common ancestor with the other apes.
No human on Earth is ācloserā to an evolutionary ancestor than any other. We all descended from the same one.
Neanderthals were also a āsiblingā species of ours. We didnāt evolve from them.
Some of us did, however, cross-breed with Neandethal man. It is exclusively non-African races, such as white people, whoĀ still carry hybrid human/Neanderthal genes. Whoops, sorry āwhite purityā skinheads, youāre actually mixed with a whole other species.
Some more stuff!
Humans are actually more genetically homogeneous than most people suspect. This is possibly due to a population bottleneck at some point in our evolutionary past. Two chimpanzees from different sides of a jungle are likely more genetically different to each other than any two human beings in the world.
Our big brains may help us use tools, but what was really principal in their development was the need for empathy, communication, and cooperation.
Humans. Are. Social. So social it drove an incredibly energetically costly increase in our brain size.Ā Donāt believe anyone who says its our nature to fight āevery man for themself.ā Weāre humans, not bears. We fight for each other.
And we always have. Fossil remains are found of ancient humans who bore signs of crucial mobility impairments that lived to notable ages. Some even have sticks or other mobility aids ā community care and support is our way. We donāt cast off those with impairments, we stand by them.
Human sexual dimorphism is on a decreasing trend. Our ancestors had greater difference in canine size and overall size. Our dimorphism gap has gotten smaller.
Occamās razor is the principal that whatever is the simplest explanation is probably the most likely one. Donāt believe someone who says the reason we evolved bipedalism is so that males could carry gifts to females to woo them. Yes, this is a real ātheoryā on how bipedalism evolved.
Skin tone is an adaptation of UV levels vs vitamin D levels. Both come from the sun. UV is harmful, so where sun is plentiful populations develop a darker skin tone for more protection. The skin needs sun to create vitamin D, so where sun is scarce, the skin tone lightens to allow more sun in. This is literally all it is.
Final thing: No oneās mind is really equipped to fully understand how long a billion years is, or a million, or even tens of thousands of years. Evolution takes place over a loooong time. Its very, very, slow, slower than we can really comprehend. We canāt āstand in the wayā of natural selection by caring for our ill. We donāt need to āhelpā evolution in any way. It inevitably happens, but not on any sort of timescale we could possibly affect, so donāt fall for anyone that tells you not to āstand in the wayā of natural selection. Thatās fascism, and its utterly pseudo-scientific.
Not to mention natural selection doesnāt have a āwillā that you can stand in the way of. Its not an entity with wants, its a millions-year long process. And its impossible for our decisions to āstand in its way.ā Our decisions to care for one another are what brought our species where it is, plain and simple.

Infinity War spoilers without context
ERASE the idea that America saved lives by dropping two atomic bombs on Japan from your minds. ERASE the idea that it was anything more than a political move to scare Russia and also to satiate US curiosity as to the true ability of nuclear weapons. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were not military bases. They were heavily populated civilian cities chosen precisely bc the U.S. wanted to see how many people an atomic bomb could kill in one go. Japan was on the verge of surrendering, the U.S. literally wanted to test out their nuclear weapons on people that they deemed disposable. That is it. If those bombs were dropped by any nation other than the US veryone involved would have been tried as war criminals.
Also erase the idea that America was the hero of WWII and got into the war because they wanted so save people. They couldnāt have cared less about the victims of the Holocaust, proven by the fact that they turned away so many shiploads of refugees that went on to die at the hands of Nazis.
āthe us wanted to see how many people an atomic bomb could kill in one goā oh really? Source your bullshit, asshole
i left out sources bc i figured most tumblr users know how to use google but okĀ
- Report produced by the U.S Strategic Bombing Group (employed by Truman) to survey the air attacks on Japan concluded that:Ā
āBased on a detailed investigation of all the facts and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Surveyās opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945 and in all probability prior to 1 November 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated.ā - page 52-56Ā
- Dwight Eisenhower future president and then Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces also said:
āI had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to [the then Secretary of War] my grave misgivings, first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary, and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was, I thought, no longer mandatory as a measure to save American lives.ā - page 380
- Admiral William Leahy, one of the highest ranking officials in the US army during WW2 wrote of the usage of the bombs:
āIt is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. [ā¦] My own feeling was that in being the first to use it, we had adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages. I was not taught to make war in that fashion, and wars cannot be won by destroying women and children.ā - page 441
- General Douglas McArthur, another high ranking US official in the war:
ā[When asked about his opinion on bombing Japan] He replied that he saw no military justification for the dropping of the bomb. The war might have ended weeks earlier, he said, if the United States had agreed, as it later did anyway, to the retention of the institution of the emperor.ā - page 70-71
- On September 9, 1945 Admiral William F. Halsey commander of the Third Fleet publicly quoted as saying:
āThe first atomic bomb was an unnecessary experiment⦠. It was a mistake to ever drop it⦠. [the scientists] had this toy and they wanted to try it out, so they dropped it⦠. It killed a lot of Japs.ā - online source
- The US secretary of war, Henry Stimson, speaking to President Truman:
āI was a little fearful that before we could get ready the Air Force might have Japan so thoroughly bombed out that the new weapon [the atomic bomb] would not have a fair background to show its strength.ā - diary of Henry Stimson which can be found online hereĀ
- Even those deploying the bombs questioned the decision to drop them on civilian cities:
āI thought that if we were going to drop the atomic bomb, drop it on the outskirtsāsay in Tokyo Bayāso that the effects would not be as devastating to the city and the people. I made this suggestion over the phone between the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and I was told to go ahead with our targets.ā - online source
- Lewis Strauss Assistant to the Navy Secretary James Forrestal on the locations of the bombings:
āI remember suggesting [ā¦] a large forest of cryptomeria trees not far from Tokyo. The cryptomeria tree is the Japanese version of our redwood⦠I anticipated that a bomb detonated at a suitable height above such a forest⦠would lay the trees out in windrows from the center of the explosion in all directions as though they were matchsticks, and, of course, set them afire in the center. [ā¦]Ā Secretary Forrestal agreed wholeheartedly with the recommendation.ā - page 145
So to recap:Ā
A lot of American generals were against using the bomb as they felt it served an empty purpose.
Those who agreed with its usage completely disagreed with dropping them on cities.
Truman went ahead and had them detonated in two highly populated civilian cities anyway. Two cities that had remained mostly untouched by regular bombings throughout the war precisely bc of their lack of value to the Japanese war effort. Ā
Draw your own conclusions.Ā
I hope y'all know that this is common knowledge to everyone of every other country
This is taught in basic freshman history classes in America, so it is common knowledge, but the national pride that we are indoctrinated with from birth makes it okay to dismiss the bombing of those countries as okay and even good. I remember being outraged when I learned what happened and expecting my class to react in the same way. Instead I was shot down as rediculous and too sensitive for my reaction. These were fourteen and fifteen year old children, completely okay with defending the pointless murder of millions of Japanese civilians. This mindset was also after our teacher had explained the justifications for dropping the bomb, how most of those justifications were hollow, and the intense guilt that many involved felt after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The reason most millennials donāt make a scene when an establishment doesnāt treat them right is because we function more on positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement. For Boomers, they can make a scene because they know negative reinforcement gets them what they want; they want to PUNISH these establishments or workers, but Millennial purchasing patterns are very different.
Growing up in the computer age, weāve become masterful at filtering junk information, and that includes advertising. It doesnāt matter how much a politician or restaurant or whatever memes, weāll find them funny, but weāre still not going to shop there or give them our money of we dislike them. The way brands become successful with Millennials is actually just word of mouth.
So when an establishment treats us poorly, we donāt make a scene. We simply never go back and donāt tell our friends about it. Conversely, places that treat us well we immediately go tell others about.
The simplest ways to get Millennials to support your business is to give them good economic value for what you sell (Boomers can think weāre irresponsible, but weāre actually quite thrifty), you have to treat us with dignity, but ALSO, you have to treat your WORKERS with dignity. Unlike Boomers who get off on laughing at someone working at McDonaldās, weāve all had to work shitty, underpaying jobs and we donāt like when we go to an establishment and see workers mistreated and poorly paid, because WEāVE BEEN THERE, and we donāt want to contribute to that gross abuse of the working class.
These rich CEOs can complain that Millennials have āno brand loyaltyā or that weāre ākilling XYZ industry,ā but the truth is that selling to us consistently requires ethical business practices that most of these companies are unwilling to partake in.
Whoa.
I read this out loud to boyfriend and he just went āohhhhhhhhhāĀ
THIS IS A GAME-CHANGER.

Iāve delivered us to where we are, I have journeyed farther. I am everything Iāve learned and more, still it calls meā¦
Neighbor sued me after harassing my dog for months, lost horribly.
About 6 or 7 months ago, my neighbor got a drone. I donāt mind people having hobbies, but for some reason he insisted on flying like the biggest jerk possible. He would hover in front of other houses and windows, try to āraceā cars going down the road, and worst of all he had a habit of flying his drone in my fenced back yard buzzing over my dog, diving low just over my dogs head before circling around to do it again. My dog isnāt small, heās about 70lbs and a Malamute, but the drone terrified him, and I was worried what would happen if it hit him.
I asked my neighbor several times to please not fly in my yard and explained that it was scaring my dog, he basically told me to get lost and laughed in my face. When it still continued, I called the police. Unfortunately there wasnāt much they could do other than ask him to please not fly over my house/property.
Finally, in late December it happened - my dog got tired of his shit and managed to catch the drone right as it was diving towards him. He shredded the drone, the thing was just a jumbled mess of wires and plastic.
Neighbor was pissed. He stormed over to my house swearing and threatening me, which I ignored. A week later, I got a summons to small claims court - he wanted $900 for the cost of his drone and an additional $300 for supposedly denying him access to his property (the drone sat in my yard for a couple hours before it was retrieved). F*ck that. He could have killed my dog. I donāt have kids or a girlfriend, I just have my dog who is my best friend for the past 7 years. That dog has moved with me three times, was there when I graduated college, saw me buy my first house and my first new car. I love my dog.
Went to LegalAdvice, got some great help from them. Turns out, him suing me was the best thing to ever happen. When we got to small claims court, the judge basically laughed away his claims that I had intentionally trained my dog to attack his drone. But little did he know I was prepared. I had dozens of photos of my yard showing it was impossible for him to āaccidentallyā fly that low to my dog, videos of him harassing my dog in the past, and I had saved all my medical bills from taking my dog to the vet. $700 for an xray? Check. Another $250 to sedate him during? Why not, donāt want him being uncomfortable. Full dental exam with tooth cleaning/repair? $400. Then there was the cost of anti-anxiety meds and a secondary check up, wet food for a week in case his teeth were hurt, and extra just for good measure. In the end, the a-hole ended up owing me almost $2,000, and now is being investigated by the FAA for not having a registered drone and violating several FAA regulations concerning drone flight, too near an airport, too close to other people, out of sight of operator and waaay above the maximum altitude.
Enjoy never being allowed to fly drones again, d*ck.
The Perfect Explanation of Privilege ā In One Powerful Punchline
āThe Pencilswordā is a comic strip by Toby Morris, an illustrator from New Zealand. His most recent comic, āOn a Plateā hits hard at the heart of the issues of concerning wealth and privilege.
How many times have you heard the āIāve never been handed anything on a platterā argument in regard to social security and other social benefits?
Toby wrecks this argument by showing how two children can grow up, be loved and supported, and yet still have two very different outcomes.
Make sure to follow all the way to the end for the powerful punchline. This comic is an increasingly sad reality for far too many of this nationās children and families.
Reblogged from the source since someone deleted the text at the bottom.
this is so amazing
Not gonna lie this got me a bit emotional.
The last one alone is enough to debunk the whole premise that ISIS represents Islam.
Iām going to put this on queue just incase people need reminding
Wow ISIS is breaking every single one of these rules.
