I've wanted to make this fanart for a long time and I was finally able to do it, I love these three so much, I hope you like it! ^^
It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take this.
You, Takua, have decided to bravely flee Ta-Koro before your shift at the lava farm starts!
Everyone knows that work is a thing you are allergic to, so they probably won't buy it if you reenact a scene from The Exorcist after chugging a liter bottle of vanilla extract.
Vakama and Tahu are likely to drag you back to work kicking and screaming, so you summon all your courage, and your favorite pet crab-taxi, and away.
But wait! The wilds outside the village are as full of danger as they are adventure! Best grab something to help you on your journey!
<Previous>
What do you, Takua, take on your epic adventure into the unknown?
A Knife, useful for the everyday and for stabbing!
A disk for throwing. Usually they're made of bamboo, but this one is metal. Huh.
Your best friend Jaller! He works way too much. Also, good to have in a fight.
This weird gaudy golden mask you found while snooping in Vakamas' hut.
A bottle of vanilla extract. Don't judge me!
Turaga Vakama's badge of office/staff. Who's the Turaga now, huh? Me!
You know what. I, the person running Takanuva's account, hereby pledge to write a short story about this poll series after it's done.
Unless you'd rather I don't, which is fine.
Iâve always liked the âUssals are young Manasâ theory
Evil Things the Toa Nuva Do...
Lewa can probably make it so you perpetually feel like you're swallowing an air bubble with your drinksÂ
Pohatu can form a rock in your shoe and any give time and when you go to check, make it disappear, driving you to madness. You REALLY need to make him mad though.
Onua can form tiny pillars in just the right spot to make it so you are stubbing your toe at any given moment.Â
Kopaka, Tahu, and Gali tag team so when you go to bed every tonight, your feet are constantly cold, your head is hot, and your entire body is clammy and sweaty.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
Takanuva can:
Also muck up your sleep cycle by illuminating your room, or even the entire night sky.
Oh, you think you can thwart his nefarious scheme by closing your eyes? Too bad the insides of your eyelids glow in the dark now.
In fact, he can make any object or person glow, shine, change colour⌠The good news is, your new face tattoo isnât permanent. Bad news is, itâs not going to fade away until Takanuva gets bored of it.
He can also replace some or all of your furniture with holograms. Might want to check that chair before you sit down.
And worst of all, is⌠you canât even be mad at him. No, really, he can make you physically incapable of being mad at him, that is a thing the mask of light can do, he can prank you again and again and youâll just let him because classic Takanuva, ahahaha.
Truly, friendship is the most evil power of all.

hello lgbt community.
I don't care that I'm a very inactive rp blog, this masterpiece belongs here. Thank you OP for this beautiful depiction.
Matoran A: Did you hear about these Av-Matoran? Is that really a thing?
Matoran B: I donât know, I feel like we wouldâve heard about one before now if they were real
Takua:
Subtext in Makuta and Takua's conversation
So I've got a new video essay just released, and I also wanted to continue the conversation over here, because it's really interesting, link to the vid in the reblog. So earlier I made a theory video that during Mask of Light, Takua, Jaller, Makuta, and maybe even some of the Turaga knew or suspected that Takua was destined to be a Toa. This is mainly based on Jaller's final words being "you know who you are" and Takua immediately understanding. With idea in mind, basically EVERY conversation in the movie becomes loaded with way more subtext, and especially the one where Makuta's spirit appears before Takua in the tunnels.
So basically if my theory is true, the entire time they both know that "finding" the Seventh Toa is a euphemism for becoming the Seventh Toa. So when Makuta says "you will not find the Seventh Toa, and deep down you know it" he's really saying deep down you know you're not worthy to become the Toa. And Takua actually agrees with him, he's been dodging this destiny because he doesn't think he's worthy. But then Takua says "maybe Jaller will" and to me that says Takua is hoping Jaller is the better choice to become the Toa (a belief that Takanuva actually carries long after, he says as much in Dark Destiny).
But Makuta isn't convinced and tells Takua if it isn't Jaller, then Jaller's gonna die and its all your fault, which if you think about it is a masterful manipulation, since it simultaneously forces it in Takua's head that he both is the destined one and isn't worthy, which is literally the worst case scenario. And since neither of them actually say what they mean outright, Takua can't even find solace in certainty of his destiny.
The whole scene plays out way more interestingly on rewatches and I think its really cool, but let me know what y'all think about it!
Also when you throw in knowledge of Destiny, Makuta knows that he wouldnât be able to kill Takua if Takua truly is destined to be the seventh Toa. But if he kills Jaller, he can have a seventh Toa who isnât thinking straight, is racked with guilt, grief and self doubt, who can be manipulated into making a critical blunder that allows Makuta to survive his âdefeatâ rather than get straight up annihilated by lasers.
âTakanuva isnât thinking straightâ would sure make sense of why he feels so off after he transforms! In the movie it kind of feels like he got a personality transplant, like the Seventh Toa isnât Takua, but if heâs mostly running on âwhat would Jaller do what would make Jallerâs sacrifice worth it fuck fuck FUCKâ and âact responsible act responsible act like a Toa Who Knows What Theyâre Doingâ... I mean, the amount of canonicity of the movies is up for debate, but Takanuvaâs not much better in the novelization. And âTakanuva was running on guilt, grief, rage, and What He Thinks A Toa Should Be Like, and also maybe using the âIâm definitely a responsible adult and know what Iâm doingâ setting on his mask to convince people he can totally do thisâ makes sense of a lot of that. If heâd gone in with backup the Nuva probably could have pinned Teridax down while Taka hammered him.
... also where did Takanuva get the plans for the Ussanui, itâs cool but it really feels like it came out of nowhere, did the Avohkii have, like, implanted procedural memory on How Shot Laser and How Do Mask and Hereâs A Cool Hoverbike ready to download next to the infusion of Toa Power so whichever Av-Matoran got stuck with it could be up and running immediately?
Canonically, the plans for the Ussanui were implanted in Takua's subconscious during his creation and were unlocked when he became a Toa, but having them implanted in the Avohkii is honestly a much better explanation. Having Takua be pre-loaded with necessary Toa of Light knowledge always felt like it was leaning too far into the "everything is predetermined" angle, at least for my taste. Having it built into the Avohkii itself so any Av-Matoran that got it would receive the plans seems much more plausible.
Either that or every single Av-Matoran ever has the plans for some kind of vehicle built into their brains, just to make sure.
Yeah, I find the insistence that there was totally a plan all along and itâs Definitely Still On the Rails really quite annoying. We have canon alternate universes where things got thoroughly derailed compared to the prime timeline! And theyâre not Homestuck-esque doomed timelines, theyâre just chugging along. So, if Takua was supposed to be The Toa of Light in the Toa Empire universe, well... theyâre a little bit fucked, because heâs dead.* But if the Avohkii contains the information, not Takua, everybodyâs fine as long as thereâs at least one Av-Matoran left.
However, âevery Av-Matoran has blueprints for a hoverbike or whatever tucked in the back of their brain waiting to be activatedâ is hilarious, headcanon accepted.
*Yes, Greg said ToaEmpire!Takua âwasnât destinedâ and thatâs why Takanuvaâs Avohkii didnât transform him, but 1. Iâm pretty sure Toa stones and similar are one-use only and the Avohkii discharged a long time ago, 2. Destiny is such a snarled can of worms that I mostly ignore it, 3. if the only canon for something is Word of Greg, I only accept it if I like the answer.
On the "everything is destined" thread, I don't know. Wasn't Takua an 'early' av-matoran, one that had 100% genuine free will/sentience and not just a pre-set personality profile/purpose? Like, Takua could have buggered off to any other city in Mata-Nui's body before Teridax's actions crashed the GSR, meaning he wouldn't be in Metru-Nui to be carted off to the surface after the Dume incident, throwing all of those plans out of wack because he decided to go on holiday for whatever reason at the exact wrong time.
[opens mouth] [closes mouth] [looks it up]
... Yep, itâs Word of Greg that Takua was sapient from the start. Hm. Yeah, if you accept that as canon, he absolutely could have buggered off and screwed up any plans! And, and, Toa could have buggered up plans too because they were also all sapient from creation or from when they were transformed into Toa.
... Man, thatâs fucked up when you think about it. All these people who are really very advanced chatbots, and here you are with full sapience. Here you are, transformed from advanced chatbot to Real Boy, and suddenly all your coworkers are a little uncanny, a little stiff, a little off. Like being the only real person dropped into the world of the Sims. Thank you, Velika, you goddamn asshole, for giving them free will.
Oh, yeah. Like, when you take that into account, any concept of "personal destiny" kinda falls apart.
It probably makes more sense that all Av-Matoran probably have sweet rides all locked up in their heads just in case one of them bumbles their way into becoming the Toa of Light, like Takua did.
Like, maybe it's 'Destined' that someone is going to become the Toa of Light, but who it is is anyone's guess. Probably why they were converting Av-Matoran with shadow leeches in Karda-Nui. Either prevent anyone from becoming Toa of Light, or making it so that if one does they're loyal to the Makuta and won't Holy Hand Grenade Teridax on-sight.
Yeah, BS01 says itâs canon that the Makuta were in Karda Nui shadow leeching all the Av-Matoran to prevent any more Toa of Light. And Tridax was stealing other timelinesâ Takanuvas to shadow leech them, because... reasons.
Honestly, Takua's mindset makes a lot of tbe weird choices at the end of MoL make more sense. "Where will we all sit, Brother?" Indeed.
Yeah, itâs like... was he suicidal? Or not exactly actively seeking his own death, but... not exactly avoiding it, either? âIâve got this,â he says, âlight versus shadow, you guys should protect the Matoran if Makuta tries to hassle them to distract me,â and really what heâs thinking is âmaybe if I go out in a blaze of glory thatâll make up for being a coward and getting Jaller killedâ. Dark! But not too dark for where Bionicle ended up going later, so...
Remember what he said when Jaller was dying: âI was meant to make that sacrificeâ
Heâs assumed his destiny involved dying from the get go.
This might be the real reason he sent Hahli away to get the others. Partly so she wouldnât have to watch him die, partly so she woudnât sacrifice herself to save him too.
Even worse?
On his blog, after the conclusion of the 2007 story, Takanuva laments Matoroâs death and feels personally responsible for it. He says that if he had been with the Toa Mahri, it might not have happened.
How did he think that? A Toa had to die to save the universe, how could he have possibly saved Matoro from that fate?
By taking his place.
Takanuva is not okay.
Fuck. Fuck! Takanuva isnât okay and now neither am I. Give the man a HUG
I'm thinking that Gali and Tahu are probably the closest to Takanuva after his transformation because he and Gali already had their little bonding experience where they became psychic pals and Tahu is his hometown Toa who has already been known to allow him piggyback rides. and that's perfect because the two of them would absolutely parent the hell out of him for his first few weeks of Toahood. practice fighting with him. taking him on adventures. checking up on him, baby of the family
and he is just there letting them help him out and also wondering how he never noticed their huge crushes on each other until he became a Toa too
Gali: Now remember, if you're going to be late, call us. If you need help, call us. If you lost your lunch, call us.
Takanuva: Lunch?
Tahu: (hands him a lunch box) I made it.
Makuta Nitrax: i'm not here to fight you, i just need somebody to be friends with. it's been so long since toa treated me like om not some rahi filth.
Takanuva looked away from the pile of knick-knacks he was playing with, and turned to the newcomer. It's been months since he actually did anything worthwhile or talked to anyone new, which is why he was so surprised to be approached out of nowhere. Still, he was not one to turn away a potential new friend, even a Makuta.
"Oh, of course! I always believed in second chances, and people don't have to suffer loneliness just because of their species. I am Takanuva, Toa of Light, pleased to meet you!" The Toa cheered, offering a polite handshake to the new person. His Avohkii, the Kanohi mask of light, friendship and glitter, shined as he was getting excited.

Itâs absolutely criminal that we see Takua interact with all the Toa in Mask of Light except Gali.
The move was a little light on dialogue.
Seriously though, it is criminal, especially when the rest of the series establishes such a close connection between the characters.
especially considering she was a big part of the fall of Ta-Koro, she was there for Tahu the whole movie, she shouldâve had a bit to say something to Takua and Jaller
My best guess is that all the other Toa have a dynamic with Takua thatâs kind of comparable to a human relationship ranging from fatherly to older brotherish to eccentric uncle. (honestly theyâre all some combination of the three really), and itâs fairly easy for the audience to immediately understand how Takua relates to each Toa. But Takua has something utterly different with Gali that doesnât really have a human equivalent, and itâs possible the filmakers had no idea what to do with it. Either that or it detracted too much from the main character arcs. Still a pity though.
Shouldercanon that they shit talk the rest of the Toa psychically throughout the whole movie.
Gali: I canât believe Kopaka left me alone RIGHT AFTER Pohatu and Onua died
Takua, fifty miles away: lmfao no, he went to save his boyfriend, you just better hope he remembers bring back Onua as well
Gali: fuck youâre right arenât you
Gali: heâs still an asshole for leaving me here insecure and all
Takua: oh for sure
Takua: And then Jaller just straight up tried to jump on the bearâs head!
Gali: Dear Mata Nui, is he alright?!
Takua: Yeah, heâs fine. He missed and landed on its ass instead, and then Lewa came along and rescued us.
Gali: And for some reason everyone thinks Jallerâs the responsible one out of you two!
Takua: He was trying to be like Tahu.
Gali: Tell him heâs succeeding.

It occurs to me that we never really get to see much interaction between Takanuva and the Toa Nuva in the span of time between him defeating Makuta and their reunion in Karda Nui. That makes me sad. In Mask of Light, theyâre very formal in how they address; theyâre quick to call him brother, and thereâs clearly respect for him as the Seventh Toa, but I feel like it would quickly be made apparent that while he may be tall with light powers, Takanuva is ultimately still just Takua. So I want to speculate/headcanon as to how his relationships with the Toa Nuva would have shifted on account to his new status, as he did know all of them quite well as a Matoran.
Tahu: Tahu, in many ways, is Takunuvaâs mentor. Tahu still sees Takanuva as a member of his tribe, and thus ends up spending the most time with him as they recover what they can from the ruins of Ta-Koro. He canât help but see Takanuva as Takua, and this makes him a bit protective of the Toa of Light, as he finds himself having to bail him out of trouble. Itâs like Onua and Lewa, but with less mind control. He also is the one that helps Takanuva get started on refining his elemental control, as their elements are the most similar. Fire gives off heat and light, after all. Takanuva appreciates how seriously Tahu takes this change in dynamic most of the time, but there can be some harshness as a result of Tahuâs protective nature. Overall, though, there are bounds of mutual respect between the two.
Gali: Gali and Takua/Takanuvaâs relationship has always been unique. Sometimes Iâve headcanoned this as Takua having some kind of crush on her, given that he interacted with her in Karda Nui way back when, and then was the only Ta-Matoran (or so we thought) with blue armor. Thatâs not even getting into their interactions in MNOG. Now, though, I prefer it being more of a deep destined friendship. Takanuva certainly feels a lot of respect for her in particular, as evidenced in that his armor most closely resembles her own, and Gali definitely notices this. Sheâs extremely fond of him, viewing him as a little brother, and takes the time to teach him more on the philosophical duties of the Toa. She focuses on his ability to mediate and resolve conflicts without violence, helping him take advantage of his own good nature and the power of the Avohkii for that. In fact, he ends up being a better mediator of the Nuvaâs bickering than Gali ever was, which occasionally irks her, but she soon washes that away with the assurance that at least her brothers are getting along now.
Onua: Onua and Takua, admittedly, never interacted much, so itâs difficult to come up with a way their relationship may have shifted. Actually, this is probably how they built a friendship in the first place. Onua views Takanuva in a similar manner he does Lewa: brash, reckless, but earnest and brave too. His solid advice and warm demeanor do a lot to ground Takanuva when heâs feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders following the defeat of Makuta, and heâs always willing to hear Takanuvaâs stories as the former Chronicler. He certainly hears a lot of tales from Turaga Whenua, so at this point heâs used to it.
Lewa: Lewa is ecstatic that the adventurous little Chronicler is now his little brother. Though there may not be a canon age difference between the Toa, Lewa is certainly viewed as the least mature a lot of the time, so heâs glad to have a new partner in shenanigans and someone he can blame those shenanigans on. Almost like a Sokka/Aang friendship. Sometimes they even rope Pohatu in, which results in the Toa of Stone having the brain cell. Takauva frequently plays hookey from Tahuâs lessons by dashing over to Le-Koro and spending time with the treedwellers, resulting in lots of laughs from everyone. Â
Pohatu: Speaking of him, Pohatu is likewise glad to see Takanuva join their ranks. Ever since the incident with the infected Kohlii balls, Pohatuâs been fond of Mata Nuiâs roamer, and enjoys being able to spend more time with him as a brother. Sometimes he convinces Lewa and Onua to play with them in games of Kohlii, which are surprisingly evenly matched despite Pohatu and Takanuva being way more familiar with it.
Kopaka: The Toa of Ice, like Tahu, takes a protective, mentor role with Takanuva. They mainly practice sparring, as Kopakaâs blades combined into a staff is the closest tool they have to Takanuvaâs. Heâs a bit annoyed at the influence that Lewa and, to a lesser extent, Pohatu have on their newest member, as Takanuva had a hard enough time focusing as it was. He does not doubt Takanuvaâs dedication to the Matoran at all, though, and has a deep respect for the young Toaâs defeat of Makuta. He rarely speaks to Takanuva, but when he does, noticeably it is always either encouragement or a critique to do better. Takanuva has noticed this, and is glad that the coldest of the Toa is still looking out for him.
Gali: From now on, we'll call that a âtraumatic eventâ, not a *turns to Pohatu* âbruh momentâ or a *turns to Takanuva* âmajor Lâ or an *turns to Lewa* âoof lmaoâ

the-seventh-toaâ:
As the Skakdi takes his hand, he looks at her in the eyes. âI am sorry for this, friend.â Before she could protest, or ask questions, he emitted a bright flash, aimed directly at her collar but also blinding her as well as she was so close.
Phantom leapt into action, ducking in while the other prisoners looked away. He was used to darkness as a cover, but light worked just as well. Quickly, he grabbed the collar and started to tug.
âWait, stop! What are you doing?â the Skakdi yelled, fumbling blindly. âItâll kill me if I take it off!â
Ah, of course, Phantom realized, what self-respecting engineer wouldnât include a kill-switch? But then again, what self-respecting engineer couldnât disable it?
Unfortunately, he couldnât speak to reassure the Skakdi, else the Overseer would hear his voice and know he was here. Heâd have to do this the Dark Hunter way.
Phantom wrapped his legs around the Skakdi and pitched backwards, toppling her to the ground. She flailed and tried to rise, but he quickly surged forwards and dragged her across the floor, into a side alley, where the other prisoners couldnât see. He raised a hand to Takanuva, cautioning him to keep the prisoners out of eyesight.
The Skakdi struggled, punching and kicking Phantom from the ground. âYouâre trying to kill me, arenât you? Was this all a trick?â she demanded. Phantom sighed. He would have to let Takanuva do the talking. Meanwhile, he tried to pin her as best he could and deactivate the kill switch, then pry the collar apart.
Outside in the warehouse, the prisoners blinked and stared back at Takanuva. âWait, where did she-?â one asked, confused. âWhat did you do with her?â
Phantom gestured frantically to Takanuva, running his hand across his neck, then raising a finger to his mouth. Please, Great Spirit willing, you canât let them know Iâm here - or she will.
Takanuva blinked, allowing himself a single moment to think before addressing the situation. The slaves were panicked, and he had to handle it fast, or else confrontation would be un-avoidable. âYour friend is safe. My partner is taking her someplace safe where the Overseer canât hurt her.â He improvized, hoping it wouldnât reveal too much. âBut to free all of you, I need to know where she controls you from. We can only escape once sheâs dealt with.â

âYes, sheâs definitely been growing. Eventually sheâs not going to be our little one,â Hahli said light heartedly. Though there seemed to be small hint of sadness in her tone as she brought it up, and she herself wasnât quite sure why.
The Toa didnât have time to ponder it. Immediately she had to shield her eyes at the sudden influx of sunlight was near blinding. âTaka- I appreciate the consideration, I really do. But this is the beach, we do get a lot of sunlight already hereâŚâ
Takanuva lowered his arm, the light receding. âRight, right, sorry. Sometimes I forget that âmore lightâ is not a solution for everything.â After making sure he didnât kill anything by over-exposure, he sat down besides Hahli.
âSo, how are things going on? Anything interesting happened since my last visit?â
Hahli fell into an awkward silence, unsure of how much her friend knew of what was going on or how much Jaller had mentioned to him. She fiddled with one of the leafy plants for a bit, trying to think of some appropriate response. It was only then that she responded with the only thing she could think.
âWellâŚI donât know if youâve heard yet of whatâs happened with Nuparu?â
âDid he blow himself up again?â The Toa asked. It was not uncommon for his friendâs experiments to backfire, often spectacularly. Still, he was the best inventor and engineer Takanuva ever met, and he knew Nuparu wonât let a lab accident stop him.Â
âI wish I could be here to see that, it never gets old. But no, lately Iâve been caught up in something else. A project, you can say.â
âNo⌠unfortunately it wasnât something as simple as that.â The water Toa sighed, she couldnât help but think how much sheâd wish for something as normal as Nuparu just having a lab mishap.
Hahli tried to push aside her hesitance, as much as she didnât want to delve back into the sad situation again, letting Takanuva know was part of the plan. If anyone could help Nuparu, surely it could be the Toa of light.
She sighed again and then composed herself.âNuparu⌠he- heâs left the team, he decided to quit being a Toa.â
Takanuvaâs smile vanished. âHe what? How come? When did this happen?â Takanuva was worried, running possible scenarios in his head. If only he was around more often, maybe he could have noticed, and help Nuparu before it got to this.

Takanuva laughed softly at the startled response, and backed off to give Hahli some breathing room. âJust passed by, and decided to come over and say hello.â He explained. He then looked over to the garden. âYouâre doing great so far, it seems. If I was a spider, Iâd want to live here too. Speaking of, how is the little one doing?â
âThank you, I hope she likes it just as much.â Hahli replied as she began aligning another plant to the next. âAs for the little one-â
Immediately a small hiss interrupted the Toa, coming from her open window overlooking the garden. The young boggarak was peaking her blue head and clicking her mandibles over the windowsill, staring right at Takanuva. She gave another small noise, then pulled her head back in, just enough so she was out of the daylight and could still see her mother.Â
The water Toa smiled. âSheâs doing just fine. Itâs a little too bright out for her today though, so she has to stay inside.â
âThatâs great to hear. By the way, isnât she getting bigger? I remembered her smaller last time I visited.â He replied. Takanuva looked at the garden again, and an idea hatched.
âYou know, I heard bright light is quite good for plants, helps them grow. I wonder if I can help speed the process there?â With that, the Toa raised his arm, and the sunlight grew stronger around the greenery, showering it with rich nutrients and energy.
âYes, sheâs definitely been growing. Eventually sheâs not going to be our little one,â Hahli said light heartedly. Though there seemed to be small hint of sadness in her tone as she brought it up, and she herself wasnât quite sure why.
