I think a lot about how my mother brings me cut up fruit on hot summer days. And how she cuts strawberries into small slices and serves them with sugar for dipping because that’s how I liked them when I was three. And how my cousin always brings me a Coca-cola whenever we’re together without even a word spoken. And how my grandfather takes me for ice cream and walks me around the blocks he used to live on and tells me stories about when he thought a witch lived in the woods and that the road his house was on was so very long that he could never hope to walk it all. And how my childhood best friend would invite me over for chocolate pies on Thanksgiving, and my old roommate would fill a ziplock bag of chocolate cups and give them to me. I think about how when you’re eating something good you turn to the person next to you and tell them to eat it too. I think about how that is love. And how much we are constantly telling each other I love you, I love you, I will never stop loving you. You can tell me every terrible thing you have done and I will still bring you strawberries.
