Part of the reason I'm so adamant about encouraging people to get comfortable with bugs, my own interests aside, is because we cannot have a bright, solarpunk future without them.
A green future is not a bugless future. It is, in fact, a fairly bugful future. If you care about ecological stability, then you need to start with bugs, because they're the most at risk with our current use of pesticides.
*bugs are second most at risk from modern agricultural techniques - the soil biome itself (mycelium, microbiota) are the most impacted.
To have a healthy ecosystem, one must first have healthy soil and healthy microorganisms.
THEY FOUND THE WHITE WITCH CATERPILLAR! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
For context: the white witch is one of the contenders for the largest moth in the world (biggest *wingspan*--loses to the atlas in terms of wing surface area, and loses to the regal for weight). It has a huge range, and the adult is fairly common.
But no one had ever seen a caterpillar. At all. There were only guesses as to what it might look like and what it ate. until this year. These are some of the first images ever taken of it!!
The best kinda nights π₯ !.

Update: I just called the tipline, and it is now down again. Guess it's working.
