lucian watches violante with a measured expression, not wanting to seem exasperated or amused – both emotions currently fighting in his system. worry crept in, but lucian reminded himself that violante was a mature fae… in most senses of the word. she was not a child he needed to coddle and protect, she was the mother of his son. it meant he had quite the soft spot for the scholar, but not that he could treat her like she wasn't capable of taking care of herself. " you always believe your reasoning to be sound, vi. " he says with a creeping smile on his lips, waiting to see where this goes.
but then she continues, and the amusement threatening him faded entirely. lucian's face remains etched in stone as he looks upon the other fae, nearly drawing a groan out of him that takes more willpower than he cared to admit to retain inside himself. " of course you are. " he says softly, gently. there's no chiding tone in his voice, lucian truly lacks surprise but he wished she didn't continue. this time, the right hand of the queen does groan.
" violante. " his voice is stern, but not like he is speaking to their son. this moment is a stark reminder of where their son gets some of those traits, however. " please don't follow this endeavor alone. " because he knows there is no stopping her.
“That is because my reasoning is always sound,” she insists, offering him a small smile, before raising her hand to begin tugging one of the curls framing her face thoughtfully, finger playing with the curl absently. “I just weigh the need of the results more heavily than any other variables, including how safe the current approach is. It is my duty to get these sorts of answers, after all.”
At the end of the day, she knows she is more replaceable than most. Violante reached her current position through sheer grit and determination, but even all her knowledge will not erase that she holds no title and that she only remains where she is as long as no one better comes along. She is keenly aware that it is rather unlikely someone as brilliant as her will come along anytime soon, but is not an impossibility. As such she needs to go above and beyond, even if it means increasing her personal risk in order to get the answers they need to get an edge on the other kingdoms.
“Well, it must be important considering the state of the bodies,” Violante says, voice soft as she narrows her eyes in thought once more. It is not only the state of the bodies that concern her, it is the possibility of the blood giving the rebels an edge that not even the Vampire Queen hunters have. Zander and Leora are safe, she knows, but she cannot stop worrying regardless.
“You mean that I should take guards, I assume,” she says with a nod. “Do you have any recommendations as to whom? I do not know the ones that joined us very well.”
Lark looked at Violante again, thinking of Lucian and the fact that they were all stuck in this dreaded place. He missed his own home, but alas – peace was as fragile as it could be at the moment. He followed her nod towards the guards, though he didn't seem convinced based on that fact. Larkin was relentless in his own training, insisting he never needed anyone ever, as one did. Perhaps if he had any friends they'd joke about how he needed to loosen up, get laid – but he didn't have any, so here he was. "You want to know my idea? Slowly bleeding them to death. What else would they do with some fae? The rest have all been drained completely."
“If I did not think it would cause an international incident with two different kingdoms, perhaps even three, that would have been my first experiment,” she agrees with a snort, lips pulling back into a grin sharp enough to bleed. After all, she is entirely too curious about the rate at which vampires can replenish the blood they lost, and whether their insides were arranged similarly to the fae or if there were organs their kind did not have. Sooner or later, she would learn such information, but for now? Slow and steady wins the rate. Of course… “And well, making friends with the vampires will go a long way when asking them if I could get one of the rebels corpses once their hunt is done, don’t you think?”
Perhaps even a living rebel if she is lucky.
as the eldest child of the late queen of eryndor , saranya had grown up with jewels given to her throughout the centuries . many precious stones that were heirlooms of the nymerion royal family that had been worn by past queens and monarchs before her . there had been times as a child that she had mentioned to her mother in passing how beautiful a necklace or a bracelet was and the woman had simply taken it off her neck and instead slipped it around her much smaller neck . the woman had been generous and loving towards her children , especially the eldest who would one day inherit all her power and responsibility . " i do not see anything wrong with it either , i know not everyone is blessed to be able to afford expensive jewelry but it does not mean they should not be able to wear what looks beautiful on them . " the queen did not take for granted that she was blessed . it was no easy feat being queen but for all her responsibilities she was at least allowed to rest in luxury . the queen tilts her head at the shorter , eyes falling upon the notebook she had pulled back out . it amazed her at times the lengths violante went to when it came to her research, both of a scholarly nature and in this case towards material goods and the practice of making them . " i am impressed even after all this time how inquisitive your mind remains . " but that was just as important , their lives were long-lived and it was important that in the centuries to keep themselves occupied so that it would not lead to madness . " i see , fortifying our own economy by taking the best knowledge here . it is a smart thing to do . " to keep their people fed and housed , then money needed to continue to flow and it was important not to fall into simple old ways to ensure so . the queen smirks slightly , " and if the blacksmith is also quite pleasing to look at ? well that would be an even greater boon , yes ? " she lightly teased knowing that most blacksmiths were in great shape due to the nature of their work .
“The paste jewelry does allow for more flexibility in design as well. It is far more fragile, of course, as it is mere glass, but the fragility allows for more detailed designs with smaller notches added to them.” It is a rather fascinating work, she must admit. While Eryndor is not particularly well known for their paste jewelry considering their status as the lead nation with actual jewels, the market it is still rather innovative as some of the minor nobles make up for their lack of means by bringing forth the most innovative and curious designs made by their artisans with paste. Violante had visited a couple of private showings, and she had enjoyed them each, going as far as trying her hand with making some of such jewelry. It is a relatively new hobby, however, and she is still trying to achieve satisfactory enough results to offer some gifts to Zander and Leora. Perhaps some to Lark, Nik and even Lucien as well, but only if she manages to create truly worth their time. “It is fascinating how easy it is to make glass shine so very brightly.”
A pleased grin and blush spread through her face at the compliment, and Violante ducks her head to avoid the Queen’s gaze for a moment, before glancing upward with a small nod.
“There will always be more to learn, and I refuse to grow stagnant when it is my duty to ensure Eryndor does not,” she says steadily. Violante had clawed her way to the top of Eryndor’s scholars, and she would rather die than to give up the spot she had sacrificed blood, sweat and tears to achieve. Especially when it allowed her to focus her passions into what was most useful for her kingdom.
A huff of amusement follows at Queen Saranya’s words, head tilting in acknowledgment to them as her pleased grin takes a sly edge.
“That is what my big eyes are for, both to acquire as much information as I can manage and to appreciate the beauty found in my journey for it,” she admits with a short giggle. “It is both about enjoying the journey and the destination.”
The joys of married life, indeed. [x]

the scent that greeted her nostrils had her gaze turning in the direction as indeed a fae had walked near the lounge quarters that had been given to the valmores. shayre had spent a great deal of time, since arriving, learning the important names of the royal families and their inner circles and their nobles. it was a work in progress still but she has royals memorized. perhaps some of the faces, but she had yet to pin point which belonged to the inner circle. "not at all. I was about to spend my afternoon wandering this maze-like palace, alone...again." she pouts, feigning a rather innocent expression as she peered at the fae woman from beneath her lashes. the other's words, however, have her gaze rise fully, "odd? sounds intriguing." lapis lazuli blue hues gleamed, but shayre was careful to ensure it had a friendly sparkle, as if to not frighten off the fae that had approached her with little reservations. it had been near a battle to speak to them, most moving away when they found shayre or her siblings within in their vicinity, it was become irritating and rather tiresome. the vampire princess was hardly the one to chase others, back in her home, humans willingly sought her. her gaze subtly studied the redhead, her disposition and surprised to find a rather earnest curiosity in the other's bright eyes. the looks she and her siblings received were all forms of odd, most staring as if they were pariahs ( which likely was the case considering they had no clue her kind existed ). "i'm charmed to finally meet a fae who wishes to speak." she ponders on the answer, drawing her response out for another moment or two. "I will make you a deal, I can answer your odd query, if in return you offer some of your time to me in exchange. perhaps show me around?"
The current plight faced by the vampires is not the kind Violante could claim any sort of familiarity with. Although she does maintain a healthy circle of friends and other connections, Violante has always been rather fond of solitude. It is where her thoughts shine the brightest, and she is very fond of when that happens. Yet despite her own proclivities, she is more than aware that most other people don’t share the sentiment regarding solitude. A shame, considering how much snooping could be done when everyone is avoiding you like the plague.
“If our acquaintanceship continues, you will find that most of what I do is motivated by what I find intriguing,” she admits slowly, teeth flashing on the tiniest of grins before she presses her lips back together in a fit of nerves. In all seriousness, she is aware she is taking many a risk, but even then she cannot help herself. At some point her questions will be asked, and if she is to ask them first, it might provide Eryndor with an advantage when it comes to dealing with whatever is to come. Violante has long been prepared to risk her life for her country, and knowing doing so could extend further protection to those she cares only furthers her commitment. “I wouldn’t be so quick to celebrate, Your Highness,” she continues, lips twisting into another tiny smile. “I am rather loquacious when I am curious, and I currently find myself to be very curious about your kind.”
Once the terms of the deal are set, Violante nods once. In her eyes, spending time with one of the Aurelion Queen’s vampiric guests is a rather low price in comparison to the knowledge she can gain during that time.
“I am happy with those terms,” she says. “I do must confess that while I have a general knowledge of the castle, I am not from Aurelion, however, so I will not be able to show you much beyond what I know of it.”
the sigh that leaves nik's lips is loud enough to hear throughout the entire gardens, he's certain. the smile on his lips shows that he's not annoyed at violante in the slightest, though. book in hand, though one of pleasure and not of academic pursuit, nik isn't opposed to an interruption. what comes out of her mouth is something his smile only grows for. if anyone had expected vi to avoid the vampires they didn't know the head scholar at all, he'd been waiting for her to share her plans this entire time. it seems fate was kind to him in not making him wait very long at all. " inform or rope into ? " the question drawls from his lips as the book in his hands is softly closed with a delicate ribbon to mark his spot – not his ribbon either. " yes, well that was the obvious part. " you couldn't bring an unknown species before an academic and expect them not to be curious.
Pressing her lips together to hold back a smile, Violante shrugs, eyes wandering away from Nik in consideration. Where her curiosity based on any other aspect of the vampiric physique, she might have already tried to rope him into her shenanigans, but even curious as she is— Violante is careful of the safety of those she cares for, and her fellow curious mind is counted amongst those numbers. She is always more than happy to risk herself, but that is because she makes her choices fully informed of the risks and still deems them worthy to be undertaken.
“In this case, I think I will leave the choice in your hands,” she admits, eyes meeting his as she offers another shrug and bites her lower lip nervously. It’s a habit by this point, and one she doesn’t dissuade because it works well enough as a grounding method when she gets too into her head. “My aim is to discover what it feels to be bitten by a vampire, as well as the effect of our kind’s blood on them. Admittedly, rather risky, but logic says that they must be able to feed without killing. And, well— considering the state of the bodies that have been found, it is clear feeding was involved in the victims' demise, so I aim to understand more on the matter.”
Larkin thought of his flames, of how easily it would be to perhaps douse the lot of them and walk away. It'd be a shame for the Aurelian palace but, alas, they would always have Eryndor. Pulled from his train of pyrotechnic thought, he huffed out a breath, "Bitten?" Lark couldn't imagine letting one of them that close to do something like that – and Violante seemed to be very adamant already. "Why did they fail? Violante, what if they incapacitate you? Then you'll know and you'll die anyway. And none of us will know. But hey, all for...your curiosity."
“I won’t deny it’s risky,” she relents with a sigh, placing her hands on the bench and leaning backwards to look at the sky as she thinks through her options once more.
“I have informed High Lord Vorros of the matter and we have come to an agreement of sorts on how to proceed, which includes my guard following me around everywhere now,” she says, tilting her chin to point at the two watching from a distance. “So there are some safeguards already. And I will be asking if they believe it is possible to feed from a fae safely, before even putting the offer forward.”
She sighs again, a shrug following.
“It’s not a perfect solution, but these are the first questions we must ask if we are to find what the so-called rebels are doing to the competitors they have taken. And finding the answers the Queen needs is my duty, one that I will fulfill gladly if it means you all get even one more piece of information about vampires,” she says, voice slow but steely. “We know so little of their kind, every piece of information it’s worth its weight in gold.”
"Ill-advised? By whom?" Lark was always someone who liked to push the edge. He was dishonest, at least as dishonest as a fae who'd been practicing it for so long could be, and elevated to a position from nothing. The vampires wouldn't stand in the way of that, not for Eryndor or their court, as long as Larkin had a say in it. Still, now wasn't the time for that, as Violante took a seat with purpose. His interest was piqued, and he sat up from where he'd been laying with a book in his hand. "Tell me."
“By just about everyone with a certain amount of sense,” she offers dryly as she shrugs, and pulls out a notebook from her bag. Carefully, Violante flips through the pages until she finds her proposal and turns it around. The main focus is obvious, at once, considering that there is a sketch of a pair of fangs sinking into skin by the alias she had given to the project. Project Leech is not quite original, but they are the only other creature that Violante knows off that drinks blood for survival. “As you can guess, I have found myself rather curious on what being bitten by a vampire feels like. Now, in my defense, my curiosity is born from the fact that all of the victims so far have been fed from by vampires. Why did they fail to struggle? Did their blood have a specific effect on these vampires? I want to answer those sorts of questions.”
players: violante & vampires || open to all vamps place: lounging room near the vampire’s accommodations time: after the letter went out
In all honesty, Violante has yet to fully settle onto how to go about her current plan when she runs into the vampire. Her conversation with Lucian remains with her, so she has taken to walking around with a guard in case the opportunity presents itself, but she has not yet fully delineated how she will approach the new species. She has the idea of sending them a letter explaining her curiosity on what it feels to be bitten, as well as the possible side effects a vampire bite might have in the fae and what effects fae’s blood has on a vampire. Has gone as far as composing said letter and has a draft on her back, together with some dioramas and figures she had prepared to explain the reasoning behind her interests. However, she thinks approaching them with a letter would feel rather suspicious, so she is hesitating to do as much. In her pondering, Violante has not noticed where her feet have taken her, and even if she had noticed she would not have realized that they were approaching the wing that had been given to the vampires because she simply does not know the Aurelion Royal Castle like that.
That does mean that when she finally looks up from the floor as she realizes the lightning has changed, she is surprised to be met with the very object of her pondering.
“My apologies, am I interrupting? I wasn’t looking where I was going,” she admits, before the words slip past her lips almost without her permission. “I was actually considering how to approach you with a rather odd query, frankly.”

players: violante & lord larkin galathryn/nikolai calderon (not a group thread) || @duskomens & @astrxls place: on the gardens near the wing assigned to the Eryndor delegation time: after the letter went out
Violante does not pause as she approaches the man resting in the garden and sits on the bench across to him with a vague sense of purpose. Discussing her plans with Lucian is all well and done, but she is very aware that he is more of the logician between the two and will always resort to the safest measure rather than the one that will lead to the answers they all desire sooner rather than later. Now that she knows how to approach the vampires without causing an international incident, the last thing to do is ensure more people are told of her prospective shenanigans. Both to ensure that the vampire’s know she cannot be drained and thrown aside for their amusement, and to see the reaction of people who are not quite as careful as Lucian but extremely clever regardless.
“I am about to engage in some rather ill-advised research, and I wanted to inform you of what it entails before I throw myself off the deep end,” she offers, voice calm and amused as a light smile dusts her lips. “It revolves around the rather curious set of visitors that has arrived at Aureth’s doors of course.”
the strangest thing to occur shortly after the vampires appeared, was the uptick of visitors in the library outside of the scholars. locating his mother here wasn't a surprise, and the young lord has a skill sniffing out his parents when they were holed up in their respective space of choice for their tasks. the last time he spoke to his father, zander had to ask the elder man if he'd remember to eat and it seems he would be doing the same with his dear mother. zander was well read, but outside of shadowing his parents and furthering his horizons, he wouldn't say the library was his favored location of spending time. lately, he was taking to it as well if only to aid them and his court in discovering more answers of the vampires. although it was a task those creatures would not make easy considering they held little to no material of these bloodsuckers. "don't you dearest me, mother, not tonight." his forrest green hues eying his matriarch with a frown, though his words appeared harsh, it contained exasperation more than anything. "first father, and now you. the lengths at which you two disappear, I fear the vampires may have gotten to you two."
Violante takes a moment of consideration as she takes in her son’s features. She understands the origin of such a concern, despite most of her own being overshadowed by her intense curiosity. After all, there is little need to worry for them. As of yet, only competitors are being attacked, so that leaves Zander, Leora, Lucian and her out of the list of possible targets. It is a concern that both Princess Evangeline and Princess Sitara are competitors, but she would dare to guess that the amount of guards following each princess would have likely been upped drastically in the last few days. That alone assuaged most of her worries regarding the so-called rebels. As of her concerns regarding the Aurelion Queen’s guests? Well she is more fascinated than curious, if she is to be frank.
“Shall I try darlingest, perhaps?” She says wryly, even as she nods at his concern, an apologetic look crossing her features as she begins closing the books strewn around her with particular care. “For what it counts, I am sorry. I meant to return far earlier, but I got absorbed by my reading. I will pay more attention to the time from now on.”
the right hand of the queen relaxes when the voice that reaches his ears belongs to someone he knows he can calm around. the face that greets him one that does not bring any sense of annoyance in the slightest. lucian is far from a perfect man, but he certainly tries to be for those in his life. he and violante have a rather odd relationship in the eyes of most people, but for him it was a perfect arrangement. she was an incredible mother to their son and they continued to coparent well throughout his life – he did not suspect many could share that same sentiment. while she may cause the occasional early grey hair due to her nature, ultimately, she was a brilliant fae and he had no regrets in creating a child with her. however, when she begins to speak, he sighs heavily, a light smile on his lips. " you do worry me when you begin speaking this way. " comes his light tease.
“I— Well,” Violante opens her mouth to reassure him in some way that she is not planning to do something too outrageously dangerous, but she stops herself before she lies blatantly. Not only would the sourness in her mouth be rather icky, but she is coming to see Lucian about the matter because it is outrageously reckless at the very least. Slowly closing her mouth before she continues, she offers him a sheepish smile and a shrug. “I promise that at the very least I do have a good reasoning behind this choice, but all things considered it is a bit of a worrisome idea.”
Again, she is self-aware enough to enumerate the dangers. Will that stop her from carrying on? Not at all, but the thought must count for something.
“You see,” she begins, drawing her words slowly. “I am rather curious about the effect of a vampire’s bite on a fae and of the effect of drinking fae blood for a vampire. The magic we carry makes us rather different from the humans they usually feed on, so I am curious if that creates a positive effect on vampires. Which would be good to know since if the Aurelion Queen’s guests are being truthful, we have a number of rebel vampires running around that have likely been drinking nothing but our kind’s blood for a while.”
Another pause, and she laces her fingers together and rocks in place as she smiles at Lucian as she drops the final bomb.
“So I want to offer myself to get bitten by some of the vampires staying at the castle to figure that out. I just wanted to know how to proceed so as to not cause an international scandal.”

fucking vampires. her mind reading abilities had never been more coveted by the shadow-born spymaster than it was now. her elder brother was the only one who knew how much she had resented her rare affinity, for signa it had always been the root of all of her problems since she was a child. signa, like most, had also been shocked to see a group of these blood-sucking creatures approach aureth, and with them human companions who were their food supply. signa couldn't promise to not attack a leech if they came anywhere near her with their fangs. she had began doing what her queen asked, spying on them, which was proving to a harder task given how care the vampires were. it was almost as if they knew there were mind reader fae ( yet one more disadvantage the fae had against them ), and seemed to kept their mental shields intact. she dusts off her dress, some of the lose petals on her path way had fallen on the fabric. it was then she realized another had joined her, turning to the familiar sight of the fae. "for a group of creatures who asked for our aid, they aren't behaving very...friendly or socially. who do you make of them?"
Violante looks up from her sketch of the bundle of Echinacea next to where she is sitting off the garden path to meet Lady Signa’s gaze with curiosity. Deliberately, she lowers her ever steady mental shield and offers the spymaster a few of the glimpses she has gotten from the guests of the Aurelion Royal Family. The memories are tinged in curiosity but she has never quite known where the end of telepathy was and empathy began, so perhaps that part did not communicate across well. A real shame, considering that tone was very important when it came to contextualizing a phrase. She is not entirely sure, however, as she knows enough manners to know that asking so blatantly would be rather rude so instead she keeps offering her memories to Lady Signa drenched in emotion whenever it seems necessary.
“You would have to ask me again in a few days or so,” she says slowly, graphite tapping against the page of her sketchbook in consideration. “I am planning on approaching a few to ask them about an experiment of sorts. I am rather curious about the effect of a vampire’s bite on a fae and the effect of fae blood on a vampire. After all, it is rather relevant to our current concerns.”
the queen has many jewels , precious stones in necklaces , rings , and earrings , some of which were gifted from her mother or inherited after her death . saranya does well to take care of them especially those her mother had once worn , helping her feeling close at times to the woman so many of them miss . she is not alone in that when it comes to her siblings and her people with the memory of the queen's death barely a few decades passed . the queen takes notes of her head scholar as she speaks on the necklace between elegant fingers . " i trust your discerning eye , violante . i have heard that some markets are producing very realistic fakes that people do not realize until they take their jewels home and that merchant long gone . " while it would not hurt the crown's coffers in such , she can only imagine someone with a set amount of coin thinking they bought something beautiful and rare , only to have it be a disappointment and a waste of their hard-earned coin . " a shame really , i hoped for quality pieces in aureth but nothing truly compares to our home's jewels . " she tilts her head , " what are you looking for in the markets today ? "
“I have found a few pieces of paste jewelry in some of the neighboring stalls,” she says thoughtfully, as her eyes fall back upon aforementioned stalls. One of them is being shut down. The other remains unbothered for it does advertise the falsity of their pieces, and truly, who is she to judge if someone wants to buy a less expensive piece that still looks relatively glamorous? For most of her life Violante had done just so. She has never been one to wear too much jewelry, as it tends to get in the way of her studies, but Eryndor is well known for their jewelry and as such it is necessary even for its scholars to have a few pieces. Her collection of real gemstones has grown over the last century, but it is still nowhere near to what most nobles have. “However, there are some stalls that do advertise their paste jewelry properly, as it is fairly popular with rich merchants.”
A pause, as she blinks and takes in her Queen’s question. Silently, she pulls her notes back out and opens it on the page she was previously on, turning the paper around to show it to her.
“Market research mostly. I wanted to compare the wares here to the wares in Emberfall. Knowing what is fashionable in other countries would allow us to create specialized merchandise,” she says with a small grin as her enthusiasm picks up. “I am also interested in the smelting techniques, as I know some of our researchers are working on improving ours. I am hoping to visit a few blacksmiths as well to see the work there.”

players: violante & zander vorros || @evrflamcs place: the castle’s library, aureth time: after the letter went out
Violante is still rather baffled at the existence of vampires, and perhaps a little offended that the Royal Library of Eryndor seemed to hold nothing on them. Or at least nothing she had come across so far, but she has been steadily making her way through all the different sections of the library so she would likely recall if there was any mention of vampires beyond the vague allusions found in legends. It is clear it has been a rather long time since their kind had stepped in Aethara, but the lack of records still disturbs her. Something must have been written down somewhere, she thinks. It’s such a thought that finds her buried in books at ungodly hours, trying to find any mention of vampires within Aureth’s Royal Library. They only have a finite number of days in the city, after all, and there is a rather huge number of books still left unread. So focused she is on her task, that she does not notice her son approaching until he clears his throat right next to the table she has claimed for herself.
Blinking rapidly, she looks away from the pages, finally noticing how the day has turned into night, as well as the frown on Zander’s face.
“Hello, dearest,” she greets with a soft smile, pointedly not acknowledging neither the late hour nor his frown. Guards remain at the doors of the library, so she has been rather protected, all things considered.
open starter : open to anyone ( 0 / 6 ) location : marketplace in the city
in all honesty with their newly arrived guests , the castle had begun to fell a bit cramped for the monarch . she needed to get out , the gardens were not enough anymore . and so the queen had decided to venture out into the city a bit , finding herself within the markets. of course her royal guard were in tow ensuring her safety above all things . there is no rush in her step , gliding through the various stalls and with the energy of her guards , most leave space around her to allow her to pass through . the commonfolk may not know her name , but they recognize she is someone of importance . saranya stops at a stall selling trinkets , baubles , jewelry as it catches her eye . she picks up a necklace, eyeing the ruby pendant upon it , " i usually can discern if something is real or fake , but i must admit i am a bit puzzled on this one . " she says lazily to the one already at the stall , " may i ask your opinion ? "
Market research seems like the sort of thing that would befit the Master of Coin more than the Head Scholar, but Violante’s curiosity does not follow rhyme nor reason most times. Additionally, some of her scholars have been working on improving their refineries of silver and gold to further add an edge to the Eryndorian jewelry, so she is interested in seeing what seems to be in mode in Aureth. As the capital of the wealthiest kingdom, the people living there have a good amount of disposable income. Enough that it is worth catering to them every once in a while. She is examining one of the most popular jewelry stalls, taking note of the piece's design and the purity of the gems, when her Queen happens upon her. Tucking her graphite in its place, she spirits her notes away to the sachet on her side and turns to focus entirely on the necklace Queen Saranya had picked up.
“I would say it is real, Your Highness,” she offers after a moment of observation. “But not of the grade nor purity that could be found in the upper markets of Emberfall.”
