taria found herself more often stationed along the halls near where the nymerion family were staying. the warrior often chose the night shifts, thankful she had the ability to, but that didn't quite mean she was sleeping much during the day. instead, she found herself near the sparring grounds or the archery field. it kept her skills sharp, even if the bow and arrow wouldn't be the most effective in a small hall or with enhanced creatures that had been nothing more than stories prior to this day. when her ears pick up steps, the terraborn releases the arrow and then turns her head to the side. " i'm not late for something, am i ? "
"would you truly care if you were?" the spymaster countered, "you're late despite your efforts not to be." this was added with a note of amusement. it's not a habit signa herself usually finds charming in others, when she has meetings in place, particularly with her network her spies ; they knew the shadow-born didn't look well upon tardiness. with taria, it was different simply because the woman she considered a friend of sorts was not her solider to command. what taria lacked in these sorts of mannerisms, ones signa had been ingrained with as a child, taria made up well in others with her own unique set of skills. on more than one occasions taria had lended the spymaster her assistance on her spying missions. signa picks a bow and joins the taller woman in training, placing an arrow in it's place, "are you imagining one of these targets to be the faces of our mysterious new guests?"
sleep within the walls of aureth's palace was not as easy to come by as of late . a bed that was not her own was no longer the picture of comfort and luxury not when her mind was ever worried about the implications of what this all meant . the bodies of those missing turning up with their blood entirely gone ? who would do such a thing and what were they doing with the blood of the fae in the first place ? the queen had no idea and if only her mother were still alive , maybe the woman would have more of an inkling of what was going on and how to handle it . the queen was up early as per usual and it was soothing balm to at least spend the time with a trusted friend on horseback , allowing for a small bit of freedom even if they could not yet leave aureth . signa was her spymaster but she was more than that to saranya . " well enough i suppose . i am restless if anything , though it is likely i am not the only one this way . " she had to keep it together , a queen could not falter . " what of you ? "
"you know as well as my brother, restless is not something i ever entertain, my queen." the shadow-born believes it to be true of herself, restless is possible if one felt a bit more on the emotional range. after years of spending her childhood squashing every inefficient feeling, signa could not conjure them any more. either her psyche was too fractures, or her heart had slowly just frozen over to allow much of anything through whatever cracks that remain. the vampires were of course trouble, but in her mind they were a pest to be dealt with - though the restless they were causing in her queen and her old friend was not something the spymaster liked. she understood it, simply because while they had dealt with much unknown factors in their realm, having bloodsucking creatures was not something any of the courts could prepare for. that is what irked the fire-borne noble lady the most. "although not many hide it as well as you do." she remarked, the words gentler, then she would ever deign to use on outside of her friend or her elder brother. "its not at all helped by the unfortunate fact that our visitors seem to have more knowledge about us then we do of them. i've had more success prying into the minds of their mortal companions, its seems as the vampires were prepared for mind reading, and truth-binder fae."

laz was used to people being worried for him, but he was not used to actually being worried there was a danger larger than he lurking in the shadows. his protective instincts for his siblings was at an all time high – something he was sure was annoying – and his anger at the situation made him seem like that young and reckless fae that ran from his duty and home to sail the seas all those centuries ago. he wasn't an enjoyable creature to be near at present, but he also craved to be near those he loved. it settled him despite him being silent more than vocal. the letter at their door the day prior did nothing to improve his mood – if anything, he was far less bearable now. when someone walks into the room the prince had claimed to eat in silence he was already standing, intending to leave as he'd finished. " room is all yours, no scary bloodsuckers that i can found. " voice bitter, which was also a new one, and offered before he even looked up to see who was walking in.
"that's a shame, i was hoping to finally corner one." this is said with a just a slight lopsided smile as he had heard his brother's rather bitter words before fully seeing him. though his features gave little away ( of which is by design ), there seemed to a underling of tension that hummed with the two eldest siblings of valerion. he hadn't been oblivious to that of his elder brother, knowing the other was on edge for his siblings, and for that reason alone maxon had years of practice of hiding his own worries. so hearing the tone his brother had taken ( none of which max took offense towards ), had the younger prince's chest squeeze, and he forces himself to respond as he normally would for his brother's sake. as a truth-binder, he had one advantage - to see if the new creatures joining them were lying to their faces. so far, he hadn't detected anything that was an outright lie, but it became slightly more tricky when they were carefully wording their answers as if...they seemed to know there were mind-readers and truth-binders among them. he never uses this affinity on his family, they were entitled to their privacy and what they chose to share with maxon, but it was moments like these where he's tempted to. "i know you are not leaving me to eat alone." this was a touch softer as he claimed the seat across from his brother, whatever concern was simmering for laz was carefully hidden, as if any reveal might have his elder brother shut off entirely. maxon hated seeing his brother like this, it was a sight hardly ever seen. this urge wasn't helped at all when he knew laz wasn't completely out of danger given what the rebel vampires were searching for. "it seems the bloodsuckers seem to limit their time with us - I cannot pin down if that's a good or a bad thing."
players: violante & zander vorros || @evrflamcs
place: the castle’s library, aureth
time: after the letter went out
Violante is still rather baffled at the existence of vampires, and perhaps a little offended that the Royal Library of Eryndor seemed to hold nothing on them. Or at least nothing she had come across so far, but she has been steadily making her way through all the different sections of the library so she would likely recall if there was any mention of vampires beyond the vague allusions found in legends. It is clear it has been a rather long time since their kind had stepped in Aethara, but the lack of records still disturbs her. Something must have been written down somewhere, she thinks. It’s such a thought that finds her buried in books at ungodly hours, trying to find any mention of vampires within Aureth’s Royal Library. They only have a finite number of days in the city, after all, and there is a rather huge number of books still left unread. So focused she is on her task, that she does not notice her son approaching until he clears his throat right next to the table she has claimed for herself.
Blinking rapidly, she looks away from the pages, finally noticing how the day has turned into night, as well as the frown on Zander’s face.
“Hello, dearest,” she greets with a soft smile, pointedly not acknowledging neither the late hour nor his frown. Guards remain at the doors of the library, so she has been rather protected, all things considered.
the strangest thing to occur shortly after the vampires appeared, was the uptick of visitors in the library outside of the scholars. locating his mother here wasn't a surprise, and the young lord has a skill sniffing out his parents when they were holed up in their respective space of choice for their tasks. the last time he spoke to his father, zander had to ask the elder man if he'd remember to eat and it seems he would be doing the same with his dear mother.
zander was well read, but outside of shadowing his parents and furthering his horizons, he wouldn't say the library was his favored location of spending time. lately, he was taking to it as well if only to aid them and his court in discovering more answers of the vampires. although it was a task those creatures would not make easy considering they held little to no material of these bloodsuckers. "don't you dearest me, mother, not tonight." his forrest green hues eying his matriarch with a frown, though his words appeared harsh, it contained exasperation more than anything. "first father, and now you. the lengths at which you two disappear, I fear the vampires may have gotten to you two."

azriel had ordered extra guards for his children, because despite the vampires claiming to be not a threat, the thought of creatures who need blood to survive being anywhere his children was not something that allows him to settle. this was before knowing that there were rogue, danger vampires targeting fae, competitor fae but still. the lord of aurelion was seated by one of the empty tables in a lounging room, a cup of coffee in his hand as he was trying not to show his open disdain to another lord who had come around to bother him. he had been about to bluntly as the other male to leave him when the lady ursula walked in, "lady ursula, just the women I was searching for." he motioned for her to join him, and then turning to his irritant companion, "I must ask you to leave, I have business to discuss with our master of laws." the other male look slightly insulted but the hard look of azriel's features make it clear, he in fact, was not asking.
who: @evrflamcs signa galathryn
where: a shaded area of the garden
There was little that bothered Lark when he was in the company of his sibling. Sitting beneath a tree, the bench they sat on was rocking back and forth as Lark glanced at Signa, "When we get home, I'm writing a strongly worded letter to this rebel leader." He was mostly jesting – mostly – as he leaned his head back in annoyance. The vampires were just another momentary distraction, had to be, as these rebels closed in and their own games were ruined, Eryndor's chance of disrupting any peace seemed like an afterthought. "Made many friends?"
the eryndor spymaster was always accustomed to uncertainty, it was such a normal part of existence she no longer mulled over it. that very unexpectedness had also resulted in what signa would say was the best thing to enter her life - her elder brother. in the world of chaos, only her brother remains her one constance, and the only individual who truly knew and understood signa. each time she thinks back to how dismayed she was when their father arrived home with the now high lord of galathryn, she almost laughs at herself because lark had surprised her in every conceivable way. that they were two broken children who had learn to trust one another. "somehow you believe you can attain their leader's name over your mind-reading sister?" she taunts, but its only with lark that her taunts are laced with genuine affection. "humor me, what would you say to this elusive leader?" she laughs a bit, "the day i make friends would be the day the pigs would fly. have you any luck with the strange visitors?"

fucking vampires. her mind reading abilities had never been more coveted by the shadow-born spymaster than it was now. her elder brother was the only one who knew how much she had resented her rare affinity, for signa it had always been the root of all of her problems since she was a child. signa, like most, had also been shocked to see a group of these blood-sucking creatures approach aureth, and with them human companions who were their food supply. signa couldn't promise to not attack a leech if they came anywhere near her with their fangs. she had began doing what her queen asked, spying on them, which was proving to a harder task given how care the vampires were. it was almost as if they knew there were mind reader fae ( yet one more disadvantage the fae had against them ), and seemed to kept their mental shields intact. she dusts off her dress, some of the lose petals on her path way had fallen on the fabric. it was then she realized another had joined her, turning to the familiar sight of the fae. "for a group of creatures who asked for our aid, they aren't behaving very...friendly or socially. who do you make of them?"
the right hand felt more stressed than before they knew what the actual cause of the disappearances and subsequent deaths . the sudden appearance of none other than vampires on their doorstep claiming things that were now apparently their problem . rebels that they could not contain wandering into their lands and harming their people in the process . calyx was certainly not pleased with these revelations . a deep sigh leaves his lips as he reaches for the glass of wine he had poured earlier , taking it over with him towards the window of his office . the sound of the door opening and footsteps reach him , but the presence is familiar of his husband and so he is not worried . " fucking vampires of all things ... did it really have to be vampires ? " he brings the wine to his lips and takes a long sip , " i do not trust them and wish nothing more than that they would root out their supposed rebels and leave us be . is that really too much to ask ? "
the younger lord walked straight into his husband's temporary office in the aurelion palace, locating calyx with a wine glass in hand. his husband didn't need to turn to see who it was, both so attuned to each other's presence it was like breathing. azriel would take time to finally admit he's always been too aware of the man's presence even when he'd stubbornly denied catching feelings for the high lord. "while i'm not very religious," he'd say at all truly, "it seems our goddess wishes to punish us for some inexplicable reason." it was meant more of a light-hearted statement than a genuine statement. he walks over to his other half in two strides, placing a hand on the other's mid-back and applying slight pressure, and placing a kiss on the other's temple. for all the love the pair shared, it would be a stretch to assume they always manage to agree on all imperative matters. they didn't, but they were fine with that. more importantly, azriel knows, without a doubt, that an agreeable, and docile partner was not what calyx wanted. it only means that to the outside world, the spouses would always have each other's back and show a united front, regardless of their private disagreements. this was something the couple agreed on, azriel already didn't have a pleasant track record with mingling with others, and now seeing creatures they were told were only in fables not only exist but under their roof unsettles him too. "it's asking for too little. however, even if they manage to solve this rebel problem, we can't send them on their merry right away. they don't appear keen on mingling with us yet, but i don't doubt they came here solely for the issue of their psychotic vampire faction. perhaps their leader wants something."
the starborn had been living with a sense of unease and dread as of late . it was one thing to know that so many were missing and no one knew where they had gone , but to have them suddenly turn up , dead and without a ounce of blood within their bodies . it was entirely unheard of , at least for what the princess knew and she could not fathom the idea of what had happened to their blood and what use their murderer had for it . the princess did not leave the halls of their court , but she went nowhere alone and honestly it gave her at least a sense of ease ... she just hopped that if anything were to happen that the guard with her could handle whatever it was . their family dinners were usually a lively sort of thing , though a quieter one than some of her siblings at least usually asterin had found humor in what her siblings joked about , yet she had found none and the princess had been silently eating her dinner . she had not been entirely aware of the conversation and even as dinner had ended , still she lingered at the table not quite realizing that many had left . and so her sister's voice surprises her and she jumps as she turns her gaze to the elder . " was i ? " she was , yet she did not think anyone noticed ... but she of course astra would . " i am fine , my guards have been keen on my safety . " but she knew deep down , it wasn't how she felt physically that her sister was asking .
since the arrival of the bloodsucking creatures, it had become a norm for all the families to dine privately with their own. although it would only be a matter of time before their parents were forced to bring everyone together once more, if for nothing else than to attempt to ensure both fae and vampires alike could work with one another to put an end to chaos the rebels have been causing. logically, astraea realized that was the favorable course of action until they've dealt with the immediate threat, but something told it would not be as simple as their two races get along. from what she had gathered in her time of observing them, they weren't not to keen on mingling with the fae despite their outward amiability. dare the elder princess remark that they seemed to move about as if they believed they were better than the fae. although that was a problem for the future. the aurelis dinners were typically very lively, and astra was much like her younger sister, preferring to watch her extroverted siblings squabble or jest. since the arrival of their guests, and more fae were wiped out, there had been a damper on that mood. aster's silence was noticeable, by the raven-haired sister, the startle the other lets out only fuels her concern. "i have no doubt mother put the fear of the goddess into our guards, and then azrien for good measure." their elder brother could be quite the frightening figure when he wished to be. aster's lack of response to her true question was also expected, neither sister quite liked to admit they were unsettled or any insidious emotions they were battling. "i don't blame you, it's difficult to focus on much else when psychotic vampires are running lose and then a group of royals ones reside under our roof." her amber gaze remains on the younger princess, "I realize you won't share your troubles with our parents, but i'm your elder sister." astra tries not to think about how there's very little she could do for them other than to be someone they can lean on.

"i don't suppose our laws have anything on different species entering our lands?" it was rhetorical of course, as she approaches aureth's master of laws. how on in the name of stars would any court prepare for a new kingdom with an entirely different race of individuals? well, they would learn now, she supposed. after spending close to two days observing their mysterious guests, the starborn princess had finally approached a group of two that had near her path earlier in the garden. she didn't learn much as they were, not surprisingly, extremely tight-lipped. she found it irritating that they'd ask an endless array of questions of her home but never offering much of valmore. it was going to be a long battle for all of aethara to learn of these creatures, once the threat of the rebels were eradicated. "particularly ones with a sour attitude and an unwillingness to offer anything of relevance to their hosts?"

it was rare to find helion stationary these days, especially given the recent news he and his wife were amongst the first to learn. the consort processed by taking rather long walks, practicing his shields and attempting to block out the many screaming emotions in the castle. the city of aureth was a boiling pot at present and there was little the fireborn could do to stop his city from going up in flames. stress very rarely reached the king these days, this was a reminder of his laziness that was not being received in the best way. it made for poor company, but he was truly attempting to do his best. when the frostborn does find a space to settle in, it's merely to write a letter to his house. it's not long before it seems someone chooses to join him in his study, and given its place in their personal quarters, very few would venture this far without being stopped. helion still isn't quite sure what he's to say to his children, but there is no avoiding them either. " i've got to write my sister before she appears at the front door demanding answers i do not possess. would you like to keep me company ? "
it was a never-ending tidal wave of stress for her parents, and it was dire situation when her normally unruffled father held himself with such tension. the king of aureth was hardly ever seen with a single frown of worry ; he was the man who waltzed about the palace with bright eyes and a charming, mischievous smile. the dead competitors had rattled them all enough, but there were these rare glimpses of her father now that he often hid from his children that astra was privy to these days. for once she was at a loss, what truly what could she say to ease his worries? her mother was in a similar condition. her parents never held anything but steel sureness in their gazes, which didn't waver quite yet but this time it's lined with a different burden that astraea disliked. it made her heart squeeze painfully in her chest, and its heightened when she finds her father at his desk today ( a rare sight indeed this was ). the unsureness, the wariness, and astra got the distinct feeling some of it was also of his children. the raven-haired princess wondered if he knew that she didn't expect her father to have all the answers. "anyone demanding from you will have to go through your elder children first , including our dear aunt." she murmurs, taking a seat on the opposite side of her father. her copper gaze glancing to the blank page before him. "you should see azrien giving the others quite a fright." she hoped this would draw a smile from the king as she raising her soften gaze to the elder male. " always. i also have an inkling my father will be a busy man in the foreseeable days." she squeezes his wrist, "perhaps i could be of assist in writing the letter if you wish."

alexia was in fact, behaving. lectures given and absolutely heard, the youngest realized she needed to be a bit creative to satisfy her curiosity for the newcomers to their court. for now she would plot, scheme.. appear to be behaving. which is why the princess was leaning on the balcony outside of one of their private living spaces. it could be safe, but what if vampires could fly ? lex would need to dive into the lack of books the scholars claimed to be missing at a later time. now would be too obvious. " how long do you think all of this will last ? " questions the cinderborn when she hears someone walk out onto the balcony alongside her.
"at this rate? it seems like an eternity." the elder princess stood beside her baby sister on the balcony. lately, they had taken habit of simply watching their vampire visitors from afar and for astraea it was by intent. while she hadn't approached one yet, she has no doubt they weren't going to be entirely forthcoming either. the best way to learn others was to observe them, even if she's to begrudgingly admit the vampire royals were careful - offering just enough but nothing further. "i want them to take care of the rebel faction quickly. however, it might be in our best interest to keep our visitors here longer." oh, astra very much believed in keeping your enemies closer. while they weren't exactly enemies, until they knew more, they weren't exactly friends or proper allies either. she raven-haired princess shifts her head slightly to peer at the redhead, "they haven't been misbehaving with you, have they?" translation, their keep their mouth away from her siblings. "who would ever imagine one day our home, and our realm would be housing vampires?"
vampires. now there was a word that hadn't been uttered in a millennia perhaps. records were always wiped, every generation of rules liked to re-write their history to suit their needs, but it struck her as troublesome that not a single court of aethara held any knowledge of an entirely different species. which one of their ancestors had wiped it? had it been the fae or the vampires themselves who wished to erase their existence and their knowledge? maybe they shouldn't be surprised, who were they to arrogantly assume that only fae and humans existed? so many questions, and astra suspected they would remain with little answers as possible because their visitors did not seem like to sort to share any more than was necessary to work against the rebel faction of vampires. "they might aid us with defeating the rebel faction, but something tells me the vampires are not be trusted. " in truth, astra might have given them more benefit if their queen had come along with her children.
vira doesn't have a problem with being here, she'd offered, but for fucks sake… the blonde hadn't realized it would turn her into an animal on display. it was maddening, and they'd only been here for a day. each corner she turned had fae looking for her ears or at her mouth, and vira's temperament simply was not suited for such things. gods, she just wanted to get out and hunt. as vira turns a corner she spots a door and very quickly slips inside, closing it behind her and only sighing when she realizes the person inside isn't about to ask her how she can walk in the sun. " this is ridiculous, i hate this fucking castle. "
she hears her twin before she turns to even peer at vira. her sharp gaze had been eying the strange decor of the room, as well as the paintings that were on display in what appears to be one of the informal halls. the decor could be better, far too much gold that shayre had to admit was nearing on rather...gaudy. she turns fully, lapis lazuli gaze sweeping over her annoyed twin, "we haven't been here a full day and your already annoyed, vira?" a brow arched mildly, but with the note that she understood vira's aversion. the palace was a labyrinth the spy was still learning, but that wouldn't take long. what was annoying her twin was quite obvious, the stares, the whispering, and if a poor soul dared to approach vira in proximity. shayre closed some of the distance between them, a hand reaching out to brush off a small leaf that was resting between her sister's flawless golden strands. "you could flash them your fangs and they would slither away from you." the spy had a different encounter some had tentatively asked to see her fangs, but she had refrained from doing so because , well, it would not help with her task. she had to gradually ease them into such sights.

born as a twin, a great portion of your identify went hand in hand with your other half, and in every platonic way, you believe your twin was your other half. there was seldom anything you didn't do without your twin by your side. like her, you were the youngest so you two were the most exempt from the greater responsibilities your elder siblings have. as a result, you grew up with the world at your finger tips, your mother was a proud leader who ruled with an iron fist, but with a fairness that left no doubt she was respect by the kingdom of valmore - vampires and humans alike
you idolize her, and therefore you did not let her down. you worked hard to learn all of her finer traits, you took your lessons, you learned how to fight and hold a sword even though you it was likely you'd never need to raise one but you wanted the ability to defend yourself and your family. she spoiled you, but she also expected discipline from every one of her children.
your mother believed in harnessing her childrens natural talent, and yours came in the form of luring your prey in a false sense of comfort before pouncing. your charming and alluring smiles draw out secrets that were never uttered in the day light. for this reason, your mother appointed you as one of her spies, and such you carried out every hushed whisper and secret and bought them to your mother to aid her in ensuring your kingdom ran smoothly
where as your twin, vireyla inherited your mother's sheer viciousness and brute, ruthless strength, you inherited her quiet calculation, the ability to unravel another individual without ever lifting a finger. the combined strength of your words and your twin's skill with her blades - together you two were a lethal pair
as a young girl you always had a thirst for more, because you were never denied anything you grew to be a woman who always indulged her passions and desires. you felt everything too much, that was what your mother had always said, you were not one to be tamed and you prove her right at every turn.
the humans who live in your kingdom were your personal play things, you didn't harm them of course ( not without a good reason ), no, rather you indulged them. most vampire didn't care for humans, but you enjoyed their company. you enjoy and relish in how they worship you, that when you feed from them they look at you as if you are their god. that was your euphoria and addiction
you heard tales of the fae from your mother and your tutors, and your own research. unlike the fae realm, valmore had records of fae and your curiosity continued to grew. you had hoped one you'd be able to travel there. while the reasons behind your wishes coming true were less than favorable, this was your chance to almost have everything...
he did what others were likely attempting to do - get to know their vampire visitors. how successful he was in gaining further information was left to be seen maxon had yet to make up his mind of them, but to him they would always be strange, and that was saying something because he thought humans were much of the same. strange, because most of them came with human companions which he learns quickly were in some ways their blood supply as well. the prince does shudder internally at the thought of those sharp fangs coming anywhere near him. that perhaps wasn't the most alarming thing, he supposed, it was that fact that they had a side of lunatic faction now trying to change fae into one of them. when he entered the game parlor, just for a bit of a break from his usual endeavors, his gaze landed on the lady vespera, glad to see a familiar face, he rather shamelessly slips into the chair across from her. "lady vespera, what a welcome sight you are." a friendly smile curving his lips as he lifts one of the cards that sat on the table with a brow, "is there a seer here reading tarot cards? or are these actual game cards?"
