this is the core of why some women defend beauty standards - if they’re deconstructed even a little they have to face how much money/time they’ve sunk into them. it also exposes how untrue “i did it for myself” really is - if that was true, you wouldn’t be upset that other bodies are being uplifted
once I did an Americorps position & I won’t get into exact details but two months in my one other coworker & I were rly frustrated bc we weren’t doing anything in our job description or the contract we signed whatsoever & instead we were basically being used as extremely underpaid retail staff and slowly the ppl in charge of us were cornering us more and more into that until I was finally like okay….what the hell? I opened up the work contract I signed and realized I hadn’t done a single thing listed in my role so I sent a long (professionally worded) complaint email to Americorps and they called me an hour later in total outrage because it turned out the work we were being made to do was explicitly prohibited by the program and we were being 100% exploited for cheap labor and the very next day we got a new supervisor and spent the rest of our year doing what we signed up to do and it rocked.
I ♥️ Complaining
”#it is very easy to confuse yourself with a Karen, #trying to shoulder on and not make a fussc #but sometimes Complaint is Necessary or else nothing will get better, #for anyone”
[ID: tweet by gianmarco @GianmarcoSoresi:
"Nobody likes a complainer but they're needed for a functioning society. You know how humanity gets compared to frogs in boiling water and everything is getting bad so gradually we won't even notice? Not if l'm around". End of ID.]
I have often been asked: "Why do Scandinavians complain and criticise so much? You have it so good!"
Answer is: "To keep it being good and push for even better. If you stop complaining, the greedy and the power hungry will slowly remove more and more of the good ideas."
Show me a boss or manager of any sort who says "No negativity! No complaining! Good vibes only!" and I'll show you a boss or manager who's abusing their employees.

This is a worm? Or perhaps some sort of slug?
And it's gonna getcha
it's finally that time of the year again for the clinically depressed newscaster describing february with disco elysium music
what is the single best line in this video
it's a month that doesn't hold up life any better than it really is
something great happened here but it's over with and that's the way february is
like the desperate flinging off of something that's not true anymore
the expedition is getting desperate. people are throwing things aside
this looks like a place where people who are being punished are sent
nobody is tap dancing or breaking into a rogers and hammerstein song
theyre just barely able to get across the street and hunker over a bowl of chili
most of the birds who can afford it have flown to florida
it's as if there's some awful truth out there in the trees
something that's been bothering you for a long time is out there. what is it?
to hide the bleakness of feb., man invented valentine's day. also mardi gras.
what other month can host a holiday designed to remind us we're all gonna die?
character limit forced me to paraphrase
stop spreading despair and nihilism
stop buying into the idea that nonviolent activism is useless, rather than (by far) the most effective form of protest
stop falsely claiming that BLM accomplished nothing and that most citizens “don’t care” when people are murdered by the state
start understanding that most of your neighbors care about your rights, and their own
start noticing that most people are moved by injustice, including against people who look nothing like them
The pushback against ICE exposed a series of mistaken assumptions.

I see the radfems out there saying that every man who's ever been born is a psychopath who's constantly looking for an opportunity to commit a felony and then I remember this one time I was really struggling to get a shopping cart out of another shopping cart and a dude came over to help me, but he couldn't do it, and then another dude came over to help him, and then another came over because it was a challenge he wanted in on, and then I had 3 guys all tearing at a stuck shopping cart, and literally none of them even needed a cart.
And when they got it out, they fist pumped and I said thanks so much and one of them said "easy." And then they left.
And it's like.
I don't think radfems go outside.

I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
reblog if you remember having to ration your text messages and accidentally opening the internet on your phone was the end of the world
thinking about the time some terf dipshit on twitter said "you weirdos will be saying TREES are a social construct next" and I got nerdsniped and waded in like "trees ARE a social construct. there is no fundamental binary characteristic that separates trees from other plants" and well, I'll spare you the details but the conversation ended with the dipshit yelling "PALM TREES HAVE WOOD" which is hilarious because "wood" actually does have a pretty unambiguous, binary definition and palms in fact do not qualify

I don’t think I have the chops for D&D or other tabletop RPGs but I could make a good DM’s assistant. I don’t play the game but I sit and listen and then after the session the DM can ask me for ideas.
and I am in character as the king’s most trusted advisor the whole time
I could say things like “yes, my liege, most clever, my liege” and keep notes for the DM and maybe supply a few character voices. and serve everyone very sinister tea.
No. I’m not looking for any words. Dungeon Mentat suits me just fine.
I believe he rolled a 3,my lord... He does this to spite you...

a very blurry text post by tumblr user aspiringwarriorlibrarian from 22 Aug 2019:
I've seen the Ursula K LeGuin quote about capitalism going around, but to really appreciate it you have to know the context.
The year is 2014. She has been given a lifetime achievement award from the National Book Awards. Neil Gaiman puts it on her neck in front of a crowd of booksellers who bankrolled the event, and it's time to make a standard "thank you for this award, insert story here, something about diversity, blah blah blah" speech. She starts off doing just that, thanking her friends and fellow authors. All is well.
Then this old lady from Oregon looks her audience of executives dead in the eye, and says "Developing written material to suit sale strategies in order to maximize corporate profit and advertising revenue is not the same this as responsible book publishing or authorship."
She rails against the reduction of her art to a commodity produced only for profit. She denounces publishers who overcharge libraries for their products and censor writers in favor of something "more profitable". She specifically denounces Amazon and its business practices, knowing full well that her audience is filled with Amazon employees. And to cap it off, she warns them: "We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words."
Ursula K LeGuin got up in front of an audience of some of the most powerful people in publishing, was expected to give a trite and politically safe argument about literature, and instead told them directly "Your empire will fall. And I will help it along."
