by the way. it never is too late to decide you want to be happy. the woman who helped me get hormones didnt start hers until she was 70, and i met her at 73, beautiful and smiling - and told me that the last three years of her life had been her favorite. your favorites might be ahead of you too. why not hang around and find out?
im curious what's everyone's First favorite song that u remember having? like the song u ask ur mom to play when ur a child in the backseat of ur car
the first one I can think of is Galileo by the Indigo Girls

Accepting identities I don't understand is actually extremely easy because I just go "this isn't about me" and move on with my life unbothered by someone else's identity, it's truly that simple.
i heard someone say once, βyou donβt need to speak French to acknowledge that itβs a language that existsβ. and i feel like more ppl need to keep that in mind when they come across something they donβt understand.
hi hi puffy amiyumi fan art in the big '26? its more likely than you think..............
slightly furious reminder that fish do in fact feel pain and do in fact experience fear and distress when in pain since people seem to love spreading the myth that fish don't feel pain. what is it with people assuming a creature is incapable of feeling pain or emotion just because it doesn't have complex facial muscles. come on gang
As my main income, I work with fish in a specialty pet store that's privately owned (so I'm allowed to say no and be stern to customers when it's needed).
You learn really quickly that not only do fish have individual personalities and emotions but they also have memories and recognize people! There are certain fish who will only come out for me and hide for everyone else. The pufferfish spits at me because she gets pissy that I haven't fed her. The flowerhorn bites everyone but me and my coworker when we clean his tank. I trained a fire eel to come up and eat directly out of my hand.
Fish are beautiful complex creatures and I thank the universe everyday that I get to work in a place where I'm encouraged to tell animal abusers to fuck right off.
So, like, fun fact: all of us, down to nearly the very base of animal tree of life, basically have the same neurotransmitters for motivation/drive. We all seem to have comparable pain receptors and react to opioids (pain reduction)
(Well, invertebrates use octopamine instead of noradrenaline, but supposedly that is very similar.)
And by almost the entire tree of life I do mean all of us: mammals, fish, bugs, jellyfish, POSSIBLY sponges (it is a little unclear if someone checked)
All, that is, except ctenophores.
Also known as 'a swimming string of led lights wrapped in a plastic bag'.
Completely different neurochemistry.
May as well be aliens.
outdoor cat owners are so so so frustrating sometimes. like they are GOING to get killed, either by a car, an animal or a person, and in the time before they do that, they're gonna be killing a bunch of wildlife, but yeah, its perfectly fine and not at all neglectful and irresponsible because 'its an animal that needs to have enrichment and run around, itd be depressed if i kept it inside' dont get a cat then? if you cant take care of an animal, dont get that animal? if you really are so adamant about it needing to go outside, then supervise it while it does! get a leash and a harness! because if you dont theres just gonna be one morning where you see them for the last time and youre not gonna know when that is!!

washing dishes is evil because you go "oh fuck there's so many dishes this is gonna take foreverrr" and then you enter the dish abyss and emerge with your abdomen somehow covered in water and your hands all wrinky and then you look at the clock and what felt like half an hour was actually 10 minutes

Consider: it is the healthiest and most normal thing in the world to go to your close friends and loved ones with problems in your friendships and relationships. Not to gossip, not to talk shit, but I go "Hey, me and (x, not related to my current partners) are on the rocks right now, can I talk it out with you?" and then you get input, advice, you get to process your feelings through conversation, then you're probably more equipped to go back to the person and go "hey I've been thinking and processing, I feel xyz."
Two major thoughts here:
Don't let anyone convince you that this type of conversation should only exist in therapy. Your friends and loved ones are there for you. Its called a support system for a reason. Getting advice and comfort is entirely different from talking shit.
If someone gets upset with you for talking about your interpersonal problems with your friends, its worth examining that dynamic. Why are they so worried other people will find out how they're treating you? This isn't like 100% always a bad thing, but like. Consider if there's other parts of the relationship that feel controlled. Consider how listened to and respected you feel, how safe you feel, how independent and free to act you feel.
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
