Okay so I'm studying chemistry right now and I need someone to fact check my understanding
Ionic bonds = kinda like enemies to lovers. Atoms with strong electronegativity steal electrons from atoms with lower electronegativity. Giving the thief (anion) the negative charge and the victim (cation) a positive charge. But after this robbery, they are attracted and become lovers
Polar covalent bonds = toxic friendship. The 2 atoms have to share but the one with the higher electronegativity hoards the electrons.
Non polar covalent bonds = pure friendship. 2 atoms just chilling and sharing electrons
Hydrogen bonds = the toxic friendship but with others involved. The weaker friend bonds with other friend groups cuz it likes them but is stuck with the toxic friend the entire time too.
Other van der waals forces = colleagues. Size and shape determine the strength of the attraction force. But mainly everyone is usually briefly chilling
ionic bonds are like a βthief in the nightβ sort of thing. the meeting of opposites in the proverbial plum pudding and the cation gives electrons to the other like an atomic swapping of saliva, and itβs always when no oneβs looking. i think of the cheerleader with the stoner, or the goth kid with the nerdy loner.
polar covalent bondsβ¦ yes. kind of. itβs more like the friend you canβt stand but youβre friends with them anyway because you feel bad for them otherwise.
nonpolar covalent bondsβ¦ yes! theyβre best friends and have been best friends forever.
hydrogen bonds: that one person whoβs friends with everyone. and i mean everyone, even with the rare-earth elements. theyβre kind of annoying but you canβt picture life without them.
other van der waals forces: those little niche friendships no one knows about. can be coworkers, can be romantic, anything goes.
