That's a crime against oreos and burgers.
So I've been on here for a while and whenever I actually work hard on something -or just really like an idea that I've had for some time- and put it up, close to no one to likes it and I get really upset. Do you have tips on how not to get so discouraged on your writing? Sorry if I'm bothering
You’re not bothering but I don’t think I’m a good person to ask for advice because I struggle to express my ideas properly when it’s not verbal.
I used to have this problem a lot. If you post something you’ve worked really hard on and it doesn’t do well, it feels awful. Like your stuff is really disposable.
Overtime that feeling got less for me. I posted something some months ago which I’d spent days on, and was really, really thrilled with and then it bombed. And I did feel a bit dispointed, but it didn’t actually upset me like it might have done in the past. Actually i kind of found it funny, like seriously you guys?? I post a 5 min sketch with a funny caption and you’ll reblog it forever but this you ignore? Pffft you have no taste. I remember feeling weirdly proud of myself, because I was able to be like: well I like it, and i had fun drawing it so who cares? Now I feel like that most of the time something doesn’t do as well as I hoped.
Unfortunately I’m not sure how I got from A to B, or how to speed up the processs. I think it’s just time and experience with the nonsensical whims of tumblr. And when you post something, try to focus on what you like about it and then write more stuff that makes you happy. Rather than trying to guess what the ‘audience’ wants. People who like the same stuff as you will find it eventually, and you will be happier whilst honing your skills in the mean time.
(Also more practical advice -make sure your first 5 tags are the important stuff like names / pairings because they’re the ones that show up in tumblr search function. Follow lots of people and reblog/ comment on stuff you like. Some people don’t mind being tagged even if they’ve not asked specifically - look for blogs with stuff like ‘tag me in your moxiety content!’ In their header. If you do art, get Instagram (seriously they are so much more likely to comment / engage on there, that’s where I go when I get low and need that sweet sweet validation), maybe see if there’s an equivalent for writing)
Uhh sorry there’s no really ground breaking advice here. Just. Keep going and try not to worry about the notes! Post your ideas and if they don’t do well...keep posting about them anyway! It’s your blog, your writing, you can make your own fun and everyone else can either get on your level or go hike
