i'm angry about this book and here's why: there's way too many characters and the one that we do get to focus on spends the first like, dozen chapters moping about her problems instead of solving them. like, oh poor aila this, poor aila that. then she gets all butthurt about other people not communicating when she could solve like 90% of her internal "woes" with one brutally honest conversation.

i'm not even sure what i read. where is the plot? enormous cast like the author was trying to stuff as many diverse people in as possible to get woke points. incredibly disappointing and frustrating read.

also, her friend mayu sucks.

the 1 star is for jonah osorio, the only thing that made this book worth reading.

I don’t care about feminism.

I don’t care about sexuality.

I care about good storytelling.

i think i'm a good person.

i don't know if that makes me arrogant. but my first instinct when somebody talks about their struggles, or shares their trauma, or tells me something important to them, is to tell them i love them, they're lovely, they're valid, and that i'll support them through all their struggles.

and then i stumbled across people doing it for woke points. they got a lot of flack, which they should, if they're doing it purely for public standing and 'look! i'm a good person! over here!'

but i got genuinely afraid of being a good person for a while. i thought that people would think that i was showing basic human decency for woke points.

This is not a vagueblog, just a thought with a question at the end.

The level of moral perfection expected of people on this site makes me sick. Nobody can uphold that standard, and the standards that are set make it so easy to go from everybody’s favorite to problematic trash.

I’m not talking about people who do truly heinous things like being a white supremacist, an antivaxxer or someone who knowingly and blatantly commits all the -isms and -phobias that are out there.

I’m talking about how a badly worded post coming from good intentions can turn everyone against a person before they inhale the breath they need to clarify what they meant. And you are the first person to call them out so their post blows up and in the end all their friends have turned on them.

I’m talking about how somebody can reblog from a person they don’t know is a problem (ie racist, etc), you point it out, and suddenly everybody in their social circle thinks they agree with the bad person’s ideology.

All those people who "discovered" they're hair was curly not frizzy are just finding out curl cream... curls.

You're hair isn't curly it's just dry. Brushing it into spirals while its still soaking wet doesn't mean you have curly hair either, just means you reinvented rag curls.

Same thing goes for wavy hair and scrunching, although no one can seem to agree where curly stops and wavy begins.
