John Koch fut l’un des principaux peintres réalistes américains du 20e siècle. Il peignit des tableaux issus de son univers personnel aussi bien que des représentations fidèles du quotidien de la vie américaine  peuplées de modèles, de musiciens, de vues de son atelier ou de son appartement de New York. À travers ses oeuvres  Koch fut un porte aussi discret que possible du mouvement réaliste, tout en assurant une présence constante et  respectée. Les compositions de Koch étaient élégantes. Ses tons chauds et ses couleurs invitent à entrer dans son monde où l'on peut découvrir de véritables  trésors. Les objets eux-mêmes sont choisis avec un soin soin particulier.
