Riverdale Revisions

A series of stories where everyone is running around in fur briefs and bikinis. Funny then that Dan Decarlo didn't draw more of them -- this instalment appears one of a small handful, so I kind of wonder how he was given the assignment on this one.

I note that even as they keep the layout pretty well identical, Samm Schwartz slides in a couple background gags. The saleswoman gives an eye roll to the fat woman and her bathing suit. A guy walks in and has his hat snagged by a tree. And complainers complain, I guess.

They dropped Mr. Lodges “wait until the boys at the club hear about this” in favor of a dazed shock, which does alter the meaning for him – Mr. Lodge processes it at a quicker clip.

Archie did it already though.

Quebec can't have a weak play on words for "miss take". Have to change to some "manipulation", whatever that be.

A later instance where we see Betty commenting on how hot she finds a passing girl, she regrets doing so aloud because of Archie's excited response. Here she wants to share the excitement with Archie. Complicated mix, she is either moving into or out of constantly putting dark sunglasses on him or otherwise blocking his vision from the girls. I am not sure how to arrange the continuity -- which panel happened first -- is Betty moving toward sharing the ogling ("male gaze") or moving to guarding this for herself?

Archie's butt struggles as he runs, I guess.

Not sure why Veronica rejects a cpr lesson. She knows she is in an Archie comic book, so that means Hot Mouth to Mouth Resuscitation Action.

Though, this is why she would be rejecting the chance for Hot Mouth to Mouth Resuscitation Practice Action...

Keep the old woman, dump the cowboy kid. They move it to the deli, better to get in view of the "Fresh Ham" on sale.

We are here over a year past the last appearance of Cheryl. Interestingly, had Kathleen Webb wanted to drop in a character name she would have gone with "Gloria Gudlucks", though I don't know what Betty would say instead of "that red-headed witch". Rich Margopoulos, writer of the last trailing off stories with the Blossoms -- focused a bit more on class antagonisms via athletic competitiom from Pembroke Academy than on the vixen seductress and bad boy attraction angle -- still had her in his head to pull out for plot referencing detail-- and that and this are where you can spot her between 1985 and 1995.

No Stuttering allowed. No time for Goom-byes.

A bit confused as they drop the allusion to the "divine source" and the "creator". They remove Moses in favor of America's 16th President but keep Jesus.
