In as much as there is anything here, the first version is better – explanations on the limitations, a small play off of “little” as in Miss Grundy sure wouldn’t want it as little as Archie would. We note a small irony, though: the bikini bottom in the second variant is, indeed, smaller than in the first. At least on one side. And I do not know what her shoes are in the first. I guess it was the style of the time.

I suppose it ought be obvious how bread became money. Literal subsistence gets one degree removed. Once upon a time, I had a neighbor ask if I had any bread – and was a bit confused as I shuffled some coins in my pocket so he had to explain that, no – he meant whole wheat and couldn’t be bothered to get to the grocery store right then. Life's misunderstandings -- maybe people don't say "bread" anymore.

The comic book succeeds at being not embarrassing – there were worse efforts in this “experimental” era. (then again, there were also more worthwhile ones.) There is a curious effect in issue 3 where Gene Colan, fresh off his Jughead Batman parody tie in for Jughead # 17, draws the Hot Dog Batman parody tie-in (groan as you will at “Barkman”) and… well, Colan did draw Howard the Duck so you can compare and contrast the anthropomorphic comic things.

Extra heart in each panel. Zoom lines. Geometric vaguities as background space filler in the next panel. The snap lines were always there.
