Clearly they wanted to ditch 'Archie’s Girls’ and offer up a “best friends forever” focus even as they continue to circle around the “fighting over Archie” dynamic. But they were doing so and could have done so while continuing the numbering of the series started in 1950. If that is what they wanted.

Nonetheless, issue one brought in a few stories clearly meant for an element of worldly concerns and at least a smidgen of character depth or development. Because it was issue one. So here, after Betty has a bad date with an obnoxious conceited college boy -- noticeable last second re-lettering job notwithstanding

Reggie wanting Veronica, Betty wanting Archie, and I guess they have each in this 50s / 60s relationship.

Added cleavage line. Curioys cut out of some bikini bottoming -- I assume an accident, got caught on the wrinkle line.

The window had to get removed because Archie and Betty were always too easily distracted by all the pretty girls walking by. What is Archie looking over toward in the window-less version? Interesting Veronica's expression -- different response from everyone laughing.

Funny to look over set of issues of concern and order shifts across the decade and over to Quebec. What's so funny about Peace, Love, and Understanding?
