So first, a little background info about me, I'm only 17 years old, which means I most certainly do not know everything (or even close to it). However, I do take AP Government, I watch NBC's Meet the Press every couple of weeks with my dad, I have read the constitution in it's entirety, and I have attended a city council meeting (if that matters at all), so I do know at least a little bit. I also live in Arizona, which means I am surrounded by conservatives, and therefore I am obviously influenced by my environment.
I am a Republican, which means I am part of a minority group on Tumblr. However, I just want to clarify that yes, I believe that gays should be allowed to marry, and, much like Vice President Biden, although I am Catholic I do not believe that I have any right to tell someone else that they cannot have an abortion. Basically, I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative.
So being fiscally conservative means that I believe in less government influence and regulation, and that's kind of what I'm trying to focus on in this little essay/rant. I have noticed on Tumblr during the debates that people seem to only focus on the social issues. Frankly, the future of this country is not going to depend on whether or not gays can marry or women can get abortions. Our country, as everyone knows, is going through a terrible economic recession. The economy crashed in 2008, and America still has not been able to recover. The debt ceiling keeps increasing at alarming rates. I believe it is now over 16 trillion dollars (correct me if I'm wrong). The Social Security system is going to be bankrupt in the next 20 years, which means that our generation is basically going to be screwed when we reach retirement age. Fewer and fewer people over the age of 65 are retiring, which means that less jobs are available for young people like us. And finally, recently gas prices in California have risen to over $5.00 per gallon. Basically what I'm trying to say here is that it irritates me that nobody seems to be focusing on the important issues on social media sites, and I just wanted to vent about that. So that would be why I would vote for Mitt Romney. Not because I agree with his social ideals, but because I believe that President Obama has not done as much as he could have to help our country come out of the recession, and I believe that Governor Romney and Paul Ryan's plan to help the economy could give us a better future.
I also just wanted to mention for a quick second that it also irritates me that people on this site are so vehemently against Republicans. The beauty of this country is that we are allowed to voice our opinions, not matter what they are. I could be a complete Communist, or even an Anarchist, and I would still be allowed to speak my mind. It just bothers me that I've seen posts that ridicule or insult people on Tumblr who happen to be Republicans. I may be a conservative, but I am most certainly not going to automatically hate someone if they are a Democrat. I'm sure this hatred goes both ways, I've just seen more coming from Democrats because Democrats are clearly the majority party on this site. Okay, so I'm done. Feel free to respond, but please, PLEASE, don't send me hate.
