#war strategy

I’ve been thinking about why my fic doesn’t get a lot of kudos or comments, and after a brief conversation with a friend, she pointed out something that really made sense.

My story includes a lot of characters beyond the usual Obitine trio—Obi-Wan, Satine, and Qui-Gon. There are several parallel storylines unfolding at the same time, and I’m starting to think that might be where some readers lose interest.

Some people might come in expecting romance—maybe even a bit of smut—but instead they find politics, war, and some fairly graphic violence.

As a reader myself, though, I always found myself wondering about the bigger picture when reading Obitine fics. What was happening in the conflict? What was going on in Mandalore? Who was in charge if Satine wasn’t there? What about Bo-Katan?

So when I started outlining this story, I tried to answer those questions—the ones that had always stayed in the back of my mind.

At this point, I think the best way to describe my story is that it isn’t really a love story. It’s more of a war story where love happens. And because it’s centered around war, there’s a lot of violence, and those events shape who the characters become in the end.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to @slinkygail for bringing this up—it was a really helpful moment of reflection for me.

like... in fighting games i almost always main the charge-input grappler, or the motion-input grappler, whichever's more easy-to-play. in rpgs i play characters with simple offense & lots of health/defense. in first person shooters i equip the shotgun and i run around and press the shoot button if i see anything move.

so my Stand wuld likely be a close-ranged stand that reacts to any danger that comes near me by grabbing it and tossing it in the opposite direction, in order to protect me from getting hurt.

“Ah, Miss Evans, Welcome.”

Lily smiled politely, as she made her way through the crowded meeting room to the open seat between Pandora and Remus, Leather Cartographer’s bag slung over her shoulder.

A few more people trickled into the room, filling in the remaining spaces as Commander Albus Dumbledore stepped into the center of room. Dumbledore began speaking, introducing the agenda for the day’s meeting.

Every single person present was vital to the plan, and the resistance’s efforts. Everyone had value to the cause, they came from all kinds of backgrounds, each person bringing their own unique skills and motivations to the table. Many worked independently, others had been assigned a group with a like-minded misson.

Lily, Remus, and Pandora had been working in tandem for months now. Unbeknownst to everyone -save themselves and Dumbledore- they were a group of four. Their joint missions were primarily focused on scouting hideouts, tracking, and mapping magical signatures, and gathering related intel for the retrieval and attack teams. Dumbledore’s ‘man on the inside’ was a permanent member of this team. His identity was known only to Dumbledore and Pandora, whereas Remus and Lily herself only knew how to contact him not who he was.

“Miss Evans, the map if you will.”

Dumbledore’s voice brought Lily’s focus back to the meeting and her personal directive. She uncapped the leather tube and carefully unfurled the map over the large wood table.

Pandora, a born Seer -and Lily’s fiancée- had been working with their mysterious insider to locate dark artifacts believed to be extremely vital to their side winning the war. Lily was not privy to more details than that, as information was very need to know.

What Lily did know, however, was cartography. Her map making skills, combined with her ability to visualize, conceptualize, and understand her girlfriend’s visions made Lily the perfect woman for this particular project.

“Each of these symbols are a known object. These ones here signify an object’s theorized location that has not yet been confirmed. These lines here Indicate Death Eater sightings.”

Lily explained, pointing to each symbol as she went, keenly aware of every single eye in the room completely focused on her.

“What is this, here?” The gruff voice belonging to Dumbledore’s second in command asked, pointing to the circles encompassing the boundary of the map.

ATHENA. 

 Children  of  Athena  are  called  the  "brain  children"  for  they  are  born  from  Athena's  thoughts  and  thus  are  the  only  demigods  to  be  claimed  at  birth.  These  children  possess  high  intelligence  and  wisdom,  especially  when  it  comes  to  war  strategy.  Their  fatal  flaw  is  hubris,  the  source  of  which  is  the  first  lesson  all  of  Athena's  children  learn:  "mom  is  the  best  at  everything  and  that  any  thought  to  the  contrary  is  not  taken  well".
