I’m in no way complaining but in the past few days I’ve seen this gif of Eric Bana in Troy more than my own parents.
Grateful for Nolan's movie because it brought Eric Bana back to my timeline. The real hero.
I just wanted to say how my heart goes out to you over the stolen gifs and others receiving the likes/retweets for an effort that was not their own. I know a lot of people think that reposting gifs is no big deal, but it really is THAT DEEP in my opinion. I've made gifs myself in the past and doing so was a real learning curve, one that that a lot of people are completely ignorant of. To go to the effort to find the video firstly, to create the frames (sometimes a headache before you've even really begun!), to learn how to use the software (PS or GIMP, whatever), to edit including colour correcting, sharpening and tweaking until you're satisfied with the result all within the 10MB limit takes far more effort than people realise. To go to the time and effort to create something for others to enjoy (and enjoy respectfully. how hard is it to credit someone if you really MUST repost elsewhere?) only for someone to simply right click save and then repost with no mention of the person who took that time and effort is a really a shitty thing to do, no matter how you look at it. Fandom is nothing if we can't respect and credit one another for our contributions. I don't know if you've considered adding a watermark to your gifs (I know it can sometimes spoil the effect) but that could potentially be a workaround to discourage the reposting. It would be understandable though if you'd rather not. I hope you'll not become so discouraged that you decide to no longer want to share your work as much. Gifmakers such as yourself are the beating heart of tumblr and a gift, just one I wish people appreciated more ♥
Thank you so, so much for sending this, because 100% on everything you've said. People who don't make GIFs often really don't appreciate just how much time and effort goes into it. They think it's a few quick clicks and magically you have your gif. And then they give you grief for getting upset when someone takes your work and presents it as their own because it's "just a gif" (whilst also refusing to learn how to do it themselves because who has time for that!). It's beyond frustrating!
I did start adding a watermark to GIFs recently, both on here and on twitter, but unfortunately the twitter account has still just used them and because twitter generally doesn't care in the slightest it unfortunately isn't much of a deterrent.
The Eric Bana gifsets I've made and posted recently on here I've now deleted (I know they've been reblogged so will exist on here elsewhere but at least this person can't just easily take them from my blog or a tag search) and I won't be posting any more for the foreseeable future. Other gifsets I'll still make and post though :)
I want to thank you again for sending this message, for your understanding, and for your kind words. It's honestly really meaningful to feel there are Tumblr folks who get it and care ❤️
Best wishes x
I've got a few folks who requested some Eric Bana gifsets - I apologise but I won't be posting them for the moment. I'm a bit done with twitter folks taking them and posting them on their accounts without giving any credit. It is especially frustrating as I have a fan account on there and I see my GIFs giving other people the engagement they want without them needing to actually put in any time to create something themselves.
I know a lot of folks roll their eyes at gifmakers objecting to this kind of thing but frankly, if you haven't taken the time to learn a skill, you don't get to decide how easy it is to do or how big of a deal it isn't to just steal for your own funsies.
So, I'm sorry to let down those who made requests but the situation is just frustrating me too much at the moment.

I haven't seen Troy in years but tell me why I had the most out of nowhere dream about Hector--
