You fucked your Queen without knowing she was a monster born from Abyss. I fucked mine knowing full well. We are not the same.
Disclaimer I am aware that their situations are different, most notably Alsanna was less a threat than Nashandra because she only wanted to survive. Still, when you put the two kings stories together the contrast is funny
What’s a Fromsoft level that, from a story and symbolism perspective, completely devastates you and eats away at your soul? For me, it’s Drangleic Castle from DS2. The existence of this place fills me with unfathomable sorrow and I will care to elaborate with text below this pretty image:
The fact that it sits atop an isolated hill, the emptiness of the rooms, the petrified soldiers, the ghosts and the rain all highlight the sense of dehumanization, isolation, loneliness, loss of self and overall confusion present all throughout this game (especially in, but not only, Nashandra and Vendrick’s relationship). This is a place where more than one person lived, descending towards insanity, for decades and decades rotting in either borderline psychological abuse or the awareness that the world is falling under a curse they do not fully understand, and that everyone is desperately trying to find a cure for, but with no avail.

old gem i found
King’s passage
I was watching a YouTube video just now which showed Velstadt and Raime vs Vendrick, and it got me thinking.
I noticed how Raime and Vendrick had quite similar moves- those being that overhead attack and the sweeping sideways attack.
It's confirmed in lore that before his exile/being branded a traitor, Raime saw Vendrick as a father figure. Could it be that Vendrick is the one who trained Raime? Maybe he even took Raime under his wing and saw him as a son, much like how Raime admired him as a Father. Again, those moves do look very similar, and it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case, but I could just be looking too deeply into things.
This just makes the whole situation much more tragic to me, imagine the one who trained you and took you in not believing you when you just wanted to help, man poor Raime 🥲
