Well I figured since I have been more active in here as of late, I may as well introduce myself proper.
Hi, I'm Alta (She/Her)! A Brit who posts about fromsoftware games and utterly loves them. I do dabble in other interests from time to time, but expect most of my posts to be about the Soulsborne series, and perhaps some Warcraft content too.

Been a minute since I Quella posted, but I've been playing around more with the idea that he was an Izalith that was fleeing the Chaos Flame when the spirit tree offered him protection. Apart from him having the Quel- prefix that all known Izalith have (all three of them), I'm also going to go back on my bullshit and bring Miquella into this.
I've written before about how I think Quella was the seed or otherwise a large of the foundation of what became Miquella, but what's pushing me to have that stance is actually from the Miquella side of the spectrum, which I don't love, but it is something I think has some very flimsy ground. It is ground nonetheless.
I doubt I'm the first to notice that at the very least visually Miquella's hand in his cocoon looks like a shriveled up version of the arm that was in the Curse-Rotted Greatwood (which is explicitly listed as a spirit tree, as everyone should know by now with how much I harp about it /lh). Considering that cocoon was taken from within the Haligtree, I think the connection only grows stronger.
I am also not the first person to notice the insectile wings on Miquella in that artwork in the introduction to Elden Ring. I am not entirely confident in drawing that to Quella as an Izalith, but I think, considering how insectile the Witch, Quelaag, Quelaag's sister, and Ceaseless Discharge became as a result of the chaos flame, and that Quella's name more properly comes out of Japanese as Nera (a type of butterfly), it's a fun connection one can make.
Though the other Izalith became spiders and centipede-y so there isn't much basis beyond being kinda thematic, but not really.
(It's also why I think there's a stronger case for Quella being a distorted recollection of Quelaag or Quelaag's sister, since a lot of his imagery is alien to Gwyndolin's as seen in both DS1 and DS2 and that there's a suspicious amount of Izalith stuff in Lothric, which similarly has a very heavy Quella element to it.)
Another weird loose end that I remain unsure of how to resolve is Quella's symbol on the Name-Engraved Ring.
It is the equivalent resolution to a Doom texture (/exaggeration), but to me it looks like a winged human. It gives Malenia in phase 2 to me, so maybe it is a human with butterfly wings and that's why he was named after a butterfly in Japanese? Idk how deep they would've made him; it's entirely possible they never thought this deeply.
That's boring tho let me hyperfixate on my named-only character.
Just stuff on my mind this morning. Maybe it'll be interesting to someone else.
As an aside — one could make the argument that through my own logic that the mass in the Curse-Rotted Greatwood is Quella himself. I am unsure if I necessarily agree with it on the surface for quite a few reasons, but I would be remiss to acknowledge that through what I'm doing that is a possible conclusion to reach. It's certainly interesting, but I would hesitate to say it's satisfying.
