I was asked to give my thoughts on Dutton Ranch. It took me a minute to go back and watch the stuff that I hadnât written my thoughts down for. So here it is.
We almost never got to see Beth riding horses or as anything other than the bad ass businesswoman that she is in the first few seasons of Yellowstone. Dunton Ranch opens with her saddling and riding her own horse!
I also really like the costuming of this first scene because the looseness of her ranch gear tells us who sheâs becoming more comfortable allowing herself to be.
I hate to give Taylor Sheridan more props than he deserves, but the very first line of the show being Rip asking Beth âyou ready?â is so poetic because the whole show is (supposed to be) about them and the start of their next adventure.
And now I have to be mad because Beth asking if Rip ever thought that theyâd be allowed to have this kind of quiet in their lives⌠right before it gets taken away from them
When I first watched this, I thought this scene was really sweet. Now with hindsight, Iâm getting mad because itâs one of the only times where they get to be relaxed and rest. Gods damn you foreshadowing!

I know it might not seem like much, but Beth taking the time to assuage Carterâs concern for Rip before telling him to get his butt moving makes me happy. There was a time in Yellowstone, where she probably wouldâve just been like âDonât ask questions. Just listen to me.â Itâs just demonstrative of how she cares and how she has grown.
Rip was not fucking kidding when he said that fire was too close because by the time he gets there, the herd is surrounded by flames
And another example of Carter, not just being a tagalong, but someone integral to Bethâs family is her patting him on the belly and physically directing him towards his side of the truck after she says âwe goâ - and grabbing his hand for comfort as they drive away! And reassuring him with both words and physical comfort when she sees that heâs worried about her! đđ (can you tell that their relationship makes me wanna cry??)
I really really really really really hope Rick gets checked for smoke inhalation at some point.
You know losing the ranch killed Rip a little bit because itâs the second time they have started building a life and trying to find peace and have it torn away by something out of their (but especially his) control.
Iâm definitely gonna have to do this in parts because Iâm already this far and I just made it to the theme. @carebooks this may take a while đ
