So, you know, I've been wanting to start posting the lore of my OCs for a while, but since the story is pretty extensive, this won’t do without an ESSAY.
To avoid explaining everything in the text (which would only make it even longer) what this or that name means, I’ll go ahead and make a geographic ESSAY right away. I thought I'll write about every land in one post but holy shit I wrote too much again! So here's only the Northern Kingdom, whose fear and loathing you could saw earlier on my drawings
I'm not sure if I understood correctly – so the Blessed Virgin SHOULD have been born as a chosen one, an incarnation, but Cecilia's parents used some kind of deception to make their child "holy"?
I like the different classes of magic and their connections to social classes! Gavin is a true villain who can exploit social sentiment for his own gain. A nasty manipulator and schemer. I love it! So he not only wants to get rid of magic and make the Kingdom prosper and technologically advanced, but also extract power from the wizarding ashes. Are these ashes only used to create weapons or something else? Are these ashes destructive in some way, or are they fuel for energy?
And tell me, how did people from lower social classes who also practiced magic (categories C and B) cope with this situation? Were there any mistakes during the entire witch hunt? Or false accusations just to get rid of a hated person? I really like the changes in your lore; everything has evolved significantly, and I'm obviously delighted with Gavin :D and I especially feel sorry for Adella - you could say her entire existence was orchestrated by Gavin. From conception and birth to her reign as queen.
Answering about Cecilia - correct! Sometimes Chosen one by Light appears randomly, but her parents wanted HER to be an icon, so forcely made her one.
Are these ashes only used to create weapons or something else? Are these ashes destructive in some way, or are they fuel for energy?
Ashes can be used for purposes other than weaponry, yet it is quite dangerous. It was discovered only recently—and solely thanks to the help of an inhabitant of another land (Iberius)—so Gavin is primarily concerned with its potential as a weapon.
Ashes act as a unique energy reservoir; using it will turn your cannon into a rocket launcher.
However, I can say that Cormag, the protagonist of the northern story, will be forced to come up with a plan regarding wizard's ashes —either by finding a way to use it for more peaceful purposes or by attempting to completely destroy all knowledge of this invention.
"how did people from lower social classes who also practiced magic (categories C and B) cope with this situation?"
They might try to compete with the sorcerers, and the truly tenacious ones could manage to survive in the market alongside them. It’s much like the real world: we have major business owners who either started from the very bottom oooor just inherited it (i am oversimplifying things, of course).
Magic has touched absolutely every sphere of activity—even singing, drawing, and dancing—yet in high circles of society, creativity Without magical gimmicks is still more valued.
All that was left for people of the lower categories before Gavin started his thing and launched his policies was to TRY to break through—to achieve anything.
Were there any mistakes during the entire witch hunt? Or false accusations just to get rid of a hated person?
Oh, absolutely. Many people took advantage of the witch-hunting situation to get rid of those they didn't want around. And while Gavin would have been angry had he found out about such things, it was impossible to keep track of everyone. Yes, categories A and B were often confused, and witch hunters were often bribed to leave certain people alone. That is precisely what happened with Patrice Etsrick—the mc of one of the storylines. He also had to live under an assumed name, as the biological son of the man who had adopted and cared for him.
fkdjsfhsdkjfhsdf thanks <3 I haven't even decided yet what fate awaits Adella in the end—it all depends on how the protagonist acts and what conclusions can be drawn from her life or death.
As a native german speaker I sometimes need to remind myself, when writing in english, that I cant just keep going with a sentence and that, unlike german, where you can make a sentence go on for as long as you want if you're a true lover of Nebensätze, english sentences are usually shorter and aren't supposed to go on for multiple lines or god forbid a whole paragraph.
Southern bitchlings. Gonna write about them in the next post
Okay, part two of geographic bullshit for whoever reads this. Now about guys with dragon-like ears
Apis are half-dragons who once emerged from the deep waters. At the bottom of the ocean, there are even ruins where still live their almost everlasting and predatory ancestors. Apis have taken from their ancestors a tail; sort of night vision; fangs and ear webbing (i checked the Wiki in english it must mean the right thing. if you are confused - check the drawing below) replacing ears; and gills, which are invalid and exist on the body only as a reminder of their homeland. By nature, these people are fast and strong, but unable to grasp magic in any of its forms. Their skin is always barely moist and cool.
For centuries, the king’s dynasty has been at the head of their lands and is aided by a high priestess. Api's high priestesses change quite often - the ritual of initiation itself is rather harsh, and holding the position obtained is even more difficult due to eternal internal constraints and intrigues. The current position of the high priestess is occupied by Lady Sigismund (Signy) who is not really accepted part of the royal advisers, but loved by commoners and the royal family. The balance between frivolity and harshness keeps Signy afloat, and majority support provides protection. She, like all previous priestesses, has passed the ritual test of diving to the deepest depths and receiving a pearl, survived and heatedly believes in her goddess.
Years after the last war with the North, apis have noticed that their longstanding rivals are accumulating military potential with renewed force, and their scientists are coming up with new technological solutions to economic problems. Realizing that another military clash could be fatal for the islands, apis decided to try to make peace with humans by proposing a marriage - with one of their own princes (he’s fifth in line for the throne, but still valid).
In order to establish the peace with the north, a volunteer delegation consisting of Prince Modrius, diplomats and handworkers, as well as priestess, has come forward to legitimize the prince’s marriage to the northern queen. All of them understood perfectly well that the road to the capital could be difficult, and not all of them may return. However, the future peace meant much more. To move across the North is like getting into a cage with lions, so the priority was given: to save the life of the priestess and, if possible, the prince. In the more peaceful years, apis became famous for the art of shipbuilding and glasswork. Ships from all over the world came to the islands, at least when there was no war with the North. Also the main trade route of apis connected them with the city of Larkand and the Southern people. In the town of Utt, when it still existed, it was possible find api traders with colorful glasses for sale.
In terms of living conditions apis are quite picky. Their tails are able to molt, the beds are set on water mattresses, and in the houses is always heating system, because apis like warmness. They grow rice, use seaweed to cook - in general, their whole life is built on water. When apis are dating, they give each other deepsea gems - corals, pearls, and so on. Despite the conflicts with people, there are also frequent interracial unions between these two nations, though apis and human cannot have children. Of the delicacies at the top of the table is always fish - baked, salted, fried, and sour-sweet desserts, one of which is a combination of sizzling and thick drink that gives goose bumps on your skin, and scones with gentle cooked cream. They also have a special hard jelly - a flavorful piece that is supposed to be chewed for a long time to keep their teeth clean throughout the day.
My story features only a few apis, and almost all of them are in a peacemaking delegacy - diplomat Bakhtiar, his stepson Paul, prince Modrius and high priestess Sigismunda (plus several third-order guys who are not even named). There is also another api guy named G'h'rodek who lives in the northern kingdom and who pinches a tooth both on humans and apis.
Bakhtiar is a kind and responsible man, truly a family man. He has a wife M'kh'eri and two daughters, plus an adopted son Paul. He has an excellent reputation at the royal court, though many dislike his charisma. He has seen firsthand the effects of the last war on the api, and is willing to sacrifice himself so that it does not happen again. He must be one of the few absolutely good people in my story. He is a side character, not too important for the story but important for apis. (i have no portrait of him, but he is a dark‑skinned man in his early thirties, with a dark beard and long hair. His eyes and scales are scarlet, just like Sigismunda’s)
Paul - as I said, the adopted son of Bakhtiar. He lost his parents: the ship on which they sailed home was destroyed in an accidental encounter with humans. And yet he believes that humans are not as bad as they seem, and that peace between two enemies is possible. Paul is slightly autistic. All his time he dedicates to fishing, and knows a lot about the sea. He is silent and needs time to think things over and make a plan for any action. However, when he is sure of something - he is unwavering. He is a good son and a fine guy, however, his only friend is the prince Modrius, as only he accepts all his peculiarities. Modrius always competes with him and is envious, but secretly admires Paul. In the story, on Paul’s shoulders lies the search for missing Signy in a village full of people who hate apis and are extreeemely racist, because their village was on the front lines in the last war.
Signy - a wonderful and cheerful lady. Her duties include organizing festive rituals, maintaining the api’s connection with their deity, advising and assisting the royal family, as well as attending royal births, giving blessings, and so on. Signy is an orphan, just like Paul — in fact, that’s how she ended up among the candidates to become a priestess. Unlike him, she doesn’t remember any relatives at all, and so she considers herself a child of the sea. Signy is quite cold and pragmatic, although many think she behaves like a child — because she actually prefers to cultivate that image for herself.
There is no specific reference for the islands in general, you just need to connect in the head Nazjatar from World of Warcraft with some japanese fishing village.
