"But you promised!" Caretaker shouted, tugging at the ropes binding their wrists. "You promised you would let them go!"

Whumper smirked, Whumpee's limp form at their feet. "Did I?"

"You gave your word!"

"Yeah..." Whumper casually inspected their fingernails. "My word isn't really worth all that much."

The ropes tore at Caretaker's skin. Something warm and wet dripped down their hands. "But---but---" they cast around, trying to think of something. "What happened to all that talk about honor? Honesty?!"

At the end of “A Christmas Carol,” the changed Scrooge is described like this, “And it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well.”

You’re probably thinking – that’s beautiful. But isn’t it about three months late? Only kind of. 

Keeping something well isn’t just a Christmas thing.

And there’s a lot about Palm Sunday we definitely want to keep. 

Because Palm Sunday is a compact version of our relationship with God. 

One moment everything’s great and we’re on God’s side.

But when things aren’t so great? Or when it might be difficult to be on God’s side? Or when it’s not all happening just the way we want it to?

We turn on God. Or just walk away.

But even though you and I are unreliable, God isn’t.

God doesn’t pay us back when we turn on Him or walk away. God stays true and loves us - without counting the cost. 

That is the point of Palm Sunday.

That’s why Palm Sunday is worth keeping, long after it’s done. 

And why some of us get literal about keeping it. Even keeping our palms, as a reminder of a love like no other.
