a trope that ive been Rotating in my mind recently is. whumpee being rescued from whumper, but. by a Caretaker who is similar to whumper in some way, and whumpee having been so bonded to whumper that they subconsciously take comfort in caretaker feeling so familiar
I think this could potentially feel very complicated for Caretaker!
Maybe Whumper always watched football with Whumpee in the room. When Caretaker watches football Whumpee joins them and has a lot to say.
"I didn't know you knew so much about football?" Caretaker asks.
"Oh yeah it's Whumper's favorite thing."
Caretaker stiffens. "I can turn it off if you want me to."
"No, I like it!" Whumpee exclaims.
Caretaker doesn't really know what to make of it.
Or maybe it's somethings more subtle. Caretaker hums when doing chores, just like Whumper hummed while torturing Whumpee. Whenever caretaker is humming Whumpee finds themselves drawn to just sit with them and absorb the sound.
Or Caretaker and Whumpee are cuddling on the couch and Caretaker is playing with Whumpee's hair the way that Whumper also did. Whumpee leans into the touch and lets out a sigh of relief. Caretaker notices and reminds themselves to play with Whumpee's hair more often, because it clearly has a positive effect on Whumpee. Caretaker doesn't realize why though.
If you want to take this idea to the extreme you could just do a Caretaker who is literally Whumper's twin 👀. That has some juicy potential for recapture too 👀. Whumper pretending to be Caretaker and all 👀.
