This is exactly the problem I'm trying to address. Sects of the fandom choosing and admitting to ignoring the text as it was written because it doesn't suit their perspective and it's not what they personally agree with or want to see.
Just because you don't agree with it or don't want to see it doesn't mean it isn't there. It doesn't mean that you can insist that others see solely what you choose to see.
So happy to finally share my previews for the upcoming @tdvzine !
I did two character illustrations for this zine, (one for the zine and one for the add-on), which I poured so much love into. I’m really proud of these pieces, and all the amazing work the other collaborators came up with, so please check the zine out!
In an update to a post I made a while ago about the cliquey mentality in the TVC fandom, it continues to be trippy asf when you see a reblog of a perfectly wholesome, fun fandom post about a shared Blorbo from a user who is a complete stranger to you, go to reblog said reblog only to discover that said original user has you blocked😂 I don't even know them but I guess I must have greatly offended this faceless stranger, slandered their house, cursed their bloodline, murdered their pet, and took their paking spot every day for the last decade, and somehow all without ever even seeing their user name, or hell just being aware of their existence in the universe.
At this point I'm so very, unhealthily curious to find out how many of these folks are part of a certain discord server😬🤔🙊
Flying monkeys be like - "our dear leader decreed:
My experience about the show is that I first watched the whole season 1 and then figure out there was movie and that this show And movie is based on novels / books by Anne Rice . I still sometimes try to watch season 2 without some of the books spoilers and context but it's a hard task to do . Because I didn't mind any changes in S1 because I didn't know anything about books but now that I know I can totally understand some of the people's desperation & complaints over the changes . But I myself am ready to get surprised by the changes. Fortunately for me I am not still as obsessed as other TVC universe fans who read the books over 15 years ago . And I don't get obsessed with many things because I want to keep my sanity and logic . But I hope at least for the TVC universe fans the show at least explain the changes in a logical and in character context and doesn't just creat something because they feel like it .

This is an unofficial survey for fans of The Vampire Chronicles Book Series by Anne Rice. The questions are about how your interactions with the books, the fandom, and the adaptations. The goal is to collect information about the fandom for this almost fifty year old series to share it with the people who are a part of it!
Who should take this survey?
This survey is for anyone who considers themselves a fan of the books, or part of the fandom for the books. You should be eighteen and have read at least one of the books in its entirety, but otherwise, if you define yourself as a fan, please feel free to answer! People from anywhere in the world, who got into the books at any time, who read the books in any language, are encouraged to participate.
What do you plan to do with the results?
The goal is to create a summary report of the results, including any interesting trends, and to share it on this Tumblr account. Your answers, if you provide them in the survey, are only intended to be used for that purpose.
When will the results be shared?
The survey will be open until the end of June 2025, or whenever it gets a significant number of responses, whichever comes first. I have no idea how many people will be interested in this, so "a significant number of responses" is defined as whatever number makes me go "damn, that's a significant number of responses!" Any updates about the survey closing will be posted here, and the results will hopefully be posted within a few weeks at most after the survey closes.
Who made this survey?
I am a fan of The Vampire Chronicles, a fan of looking at data, and a huge fan of Microsoft Excel. I don't work with this kind of data professionally, but do fandom and personal data analysis projects on the side because I'm a very cool and interesting person. As stated above, my ultimate goal is to collect some interesting information and share it with the fandom!
Here on tumblr, I am also @sizeofyoursoul
Can I share this on another platform?
Please do! You can either share this post or the survey itself. If any questions come up, I'll answer asks here.
The Vampire Chronicles Unofficial Fandom Survey: Part 4, Fan Opinions and Hot Takes
The results of The Vampire Chronicles Unofficial Fandom Survey have been broken up into six parts. Click HERE to see a masterpost with links to all parts, and downloadable and screen reader optimized versions of the results.
The survey asked respondents to give their opinions on a few things about the series. As these were optional, the percentages provided here are out of all respondents who answered the question, not out of all respondents in the survey. As many of these answers had a free form field to manually type in an answer, I have also provided some notes about how those were grouped.
Favorite Books
The book the most respondents indicated was their favorite was The Vampire Lestat, with 193 (38.76%) votes. The Queen of the Damned came in second with 93 (18.67%) votes, and Interview with the Vampire was third with 75 (15.06%), only one more vote than fourth, The Vampire Armand with 74 (14.86%)
The books people responded were their second favorite ranked the same as first place, with The Vampire Lestat first with 121 (25.10%) votes, The Queen of the Damned with 97 (20.12%) votes, Interview with the Vampire with 78 (16.18%) votes, and The Vampire Armand with 61 (12.66%).
The most common combinations of favorite and second favorite books were Favorite: The Vampire Lestat and Second Favorite: The Queen of the Damned with 57 (11.45%) answers, and Favorite: The Vampire Lestat and Second Favorite: Interview with the Vampire with 53 (10.64%) answers.
89.36% of respondents who gave their favorite and/or second favorite book responded that one of the first three books in the series was their first or second favorite.
Among respondents who did not give one of the first three books in the series as their first or second favorite, the most common combination of first and second favorite books were The Vampire Armand and Blood and Gold, with 12 votes (plus 4 votes with Blood and Gold as the favorite and The Vampire Armand as the second favorite.)
The books that were chosen as favorite or second favorite the least were Vittorio, the Vampire and Merrick (each with one vote for favorite, two for second favorite), and Blood Canticle (one vote for favorite, one vote for second favorite).
Each book in the Prince Lestat trilogy (Prince Lestat, Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis, and Blood Communion) was significantly more likely to be selected as a person’s second favorite than as their favorite. Blood and Gold was twice as common as a second favorite book than as a favorite book.
To see the results for favorite character, favorite pairing, and opinions about the adaptations, keep reading.
Favorite Character
The survey asked respondents to name their favorite character, and to give no more than two if they couldn’t decide. 497 people responded, 40 people gave more than one answer, 17 of those people answered Lestat and also another character, 11 responded Armand and another character, and 9 responded both Lestat and Armand.
Because these were freeform responses I simplified down, for fun, here are a few observations about how people actually wrote their favorite character:
Lestat got called “a basic answer” by three people, and “the obvious answer” by at least three others. We got two “Lestat, Lestat, Lestat, Lestat, Lestat” s.
Armand got called a “naughty kitten,” “that messy bitch,” and “my darling.”
An answer that made me laugh was “Oh nooooooooo! (Marius)”
The actual phrasing of the answer summarized as “None, they are all insane” is “None, they are all insane in their own way and that’s ok”
Favorite Pairing
The survey asked respondents for their favorite pairing, and it was optional whether or not to specify if the pairing was romantic or platonic. If multiple responses were given in one answer, I simplified it down to the least popular of the two pairings given (ex: If someone responded, “Devil’s Minion or Marimand,” they counted as “Marimand” here).
Because the way a pairing is written colloquially to indicate whether it is specifically a romantic pairing may have changed over time or may be different in different fandom spaces, I've standardized the responses into the following categories:
Specified Romantic or Specified Platonic: wrote one of those two words in their answer
Assumed Romantic: the character's names were separated with a "/", "x", or "+"
Under a Ship Name: Indicated a pairing by a common ship name (ex. Loustat, Devil's Minion, Marimand, etc.)
Not Specified: character's names were separated by a "&" or "and"
Specified Book, Specified Movie, or Specified Show: contextually some pairings are likely specifically referring to the television show, but this category is only assigned if the answer indicated the name of an actor, made an obvious reference to an adaptation (ex. "Old Daniel"), or said that they meant a version from a specific version.
Like with characters, because this was a freeform field, here are some observations about how people presented their answers:
Louis and Lestat: one person wished “Happy Pride to these two and their bs!”
Someone responded “Lestat/Rowan, and I know I’m the only one” the same day someone else responded almost the exact same thing.
Lestat and Armand did genuinely have two people specify that, rather than platonic or romantic, they liked (paraphrasing), “whatever those two have going on, enemies, lovers, anything.”
My favorite answer was: “Isn’t Lestat the type O amongst vampires? He goes with whomever the story requires.”
