You won't know what they're like if you just attack them. Half the time I can already tell someone has internal prejudices and biases and low reading comprehension and have absorbed other opinions in fandom like a sponge, but if I engage, I engage until insulted to discuss or even to debate normally.

Richard describes Bunny’s eating habits in a negative light not because Bunny was a chubby guy who liked to eat, but because he was gluttonous and greedy and never knew when to stop in general. Such behavior, especially for Richard, who grew up poor and worked for his food, was understandably disgusting. Watching Bunny, a privileged guy born with a silver spoon in his mouth, not deigning to study or work a day in his life, and instead steal and lie shamelessly.

Bunny was not starving or begging for food. Richard understands that struggle well. No. Bunny stole people's food regularly even though Henry would pay for him, and lied and scammed others. The first time Richard gets to know him, Bunny stuffs himself full of luxurious food, scams him and tries to pin an enormous bill on him. For Richard, a poor student who immediately got a job, that is not a laughing matter. Nor it is something that can be brushed off with a book and a packet of mints as an apology. That is Bunny’s first impression on Richard, and the readers, and it is meant to last.
